Description

A high water mark next to the lighthouse at Battery Point. You are casting out into the main shipping channel into Royal Portbury Docks, so expect large car transporter ships coming very close.

Fishing Methods and Baits

Fishing the R/H side of the lighthouse is one of the best big cod spots in the Bristol Channel, but you are casting out into rock, so tackle losses can be huge. The water is 50-60ft deep at high water, with a vertical drop off a 'cliff' into it, so great care needs to be taken. Use a 4/0 pulley rig, with junk weights or sparkplugs to keep the costs down. You will lose them!!!!

Fishing the tip, and L/H side means fishing in the eddy of the point onto rock and mud. This is a popular mark, and is always busy during winter weekends.

Bait is lug, lug or lug, and plenty of it - simple as that….

Best Tides

Ideal tides are between 9.0m and 11.0m local. Any higher and you won't hold bottom. Fish 3hrs up and 1 down, before the ebb gets too strong.

Common Species

Winter - cod, whiting

Summer - not much.

Directions

From Junction 19 M5 (Royal Portbury) follow the road into Portishead. Carry on past supermarket (L/H). Turn left opposite petrol station (Nore Road). Carry on 100yds up the hill and turn right into Battery Road. Go down to T junction and turn left. Follow round boating lake and along sea front. Park outside swimming pool, and climb steps on L/H side. Walk to lighthouse, and chose your spot
