Description

An all-states rock mark just upstream from the lighthouse at Battery Point. It's one of those marks where you can lose all your gear one day, and nothing the next. Depends a lot on the tide height. Very popular mark in the winter, so you may need to get there almost at low water to get the best spot.

Fishing Methods and Baits

A good 100yd+ cast is needed to get out over the shoreline rocks and onto mixed ground. This will put your bait on the edge of the main tidal flow. A clipped down pulley rig with a pair of 4/0's is a popular choice for winter cod fishing. A lead lift and rotten bottom can be also useful in keeping losses down.

Best baits are lug and crab for winter cod. Fish baits will also be taken, but mainly by whiting.

Rag/lug and crab are the spring/summer baits for the other species.

Best Tides

Ideal tides are between 9.0m and 11.0m local. Any higher and you will be pushed back to the cliff-face.

Common Species

Winter - cod, whiting

Summer - thornbacks, sole (which are usually large!!!)

Directions

From Junction 19 M5 (Royal Portbury) follow the road into Portishead. Carry on past supermarket (L/H). Turn left opposite petrol station (Nore Road). Carry on 100yds up the hill and turn right into Battery Road. Go down to T junction and turn left. Follow round boating lake and along sea front. Park outside swimming pool, and climb steps on R/H side. Walk straight across the grass towards gap in the bushes. You are now directly above The Brickhouse. Climb down slope, and pick your spot!!!!
