WINDSURFING

Another pleasure of mine....

My Windsurfing History

I started windsurfing in 1984 on an old Tencate Windsurfer. It was the first one to have the aluminium boom rather than the wooden one. My buddies and I all got ourselves these little bike carts and dragged those huge and heavy old Windsurfers up hills and down dales, not caring a jot about the strong headwind because when we got to the water it would be all the better...

Some of us had slightly more advanced boards like the Wayler or Mistral but basically it was big boards, long boom, sloppy rigs. Oh and Yeah...clammy wetsuits. It was here that I first discovered the phenomenon of:

The Sunday Wetsuit

Actually if was the "Just-about-every-day" wetsuit because from Easter onwards we were out there every day that there was wind. Bike home, drop bag, kiss Mom, get cart, meet buddies, get to the lake before the light goes. So our wetsuits were pretty yucky a lot of the time. Not to mention too darn thin for surfing in Holland round Easter!!!...
