Dear Senator:

What is being done to determine the fate of SP4 Paul L. Fitzgerald Jr., of Ft Valley, Georgia who was last seen on October 17, 1967. SP4 Fitzgerald and PFC Hargrove were riflemen on a search and destroy mission in South Vietnam. Their unit became engaged in close, heavy contact and suffered heavy losses. Contact was broken and their unit withdrew to set up a hasty defense in order to secure their dead and wounded. At this time, SP4 Fitzgerald and PFC Hargrove were located on the south side of the perimeter, between the main body and the enemy.

It is believed that Specialist Fitzgerald and Private First Class Hargrove became disoriented and moved in the wrong direction, as they were not seen to board the helicopters. One witness stated that PFC Hargrove had already been wounded in the back. On October 18 and 19, a company-sized unit searched the entire area, however, no trace of the two was ever found.

According to the Library of Congress documents that can be found on the world-wide web the case reference number for Specialist Paul L. Fitzgerald is 0867-0-0-01. Other information is listed as follows:

Name: Paul Lawrence Fitzgerald, Jr.
Rank/Branch: E4/US Army

Please advise me of any action that is being taken by you or any other elected or appointed official to determine his fate. In the event there is nothing being done, please explain why not, and tell me how you personally plan to correct this and prevent it from ever happening again.
