Christmas in Grand Lake
Christmas is very special in Grand Lake. In addition to the trimmings and activities you would expect everywhere, Grand Lake has a few traditions
all its own. The Christmas season begins Thanksgiving weekend with the "Old Fashioned Christmas Bazaar" in the Community Building. All the items for sale are made by the exhibitors and their families. Local businesses and individuals compete to display the most beautiful Christmas wreath on the old-fashioned lamp posts along the boardwalk
But the most special evening comes a few days before Christmas. An
interdenominational, all-volunteer Cantata starts the evening. People
offer their praise in song, music and speech. It is capped off by the
arrival of the Wise Men announcing that Jesus is born, inviting all to
follow them to Town Park to witness the Nativity. A live Nativity play, complete with donkey for Mary to ride, sheep, geese, and other animals in the stable, and local children as angels tops the evening. Regardless of your faith it is a beautiful pageant.
