Day 26 : Friday November 1st

Kathmandu

Breakfast on the roof. Toast and jam. Both woke up with cramps. Went to send e-mail. Left note at Himalayan Waves for Ram.

Pashupatnath Hindu templeWalked to Pashupatinath Hindu temple. Found the Galaxy boarding school on the way. On the river banks are burning ghats where cremations are performed. We were told they cremate 2 to 3 hours after death. Ashes are thrown into the Bagmati river, which like the Ganges in India is a holy river. This is the most important Hindu temple in Nepal and one of the most important Shiva temples on the subcontinent. It attracts numerous devotees from all over India including many colourful Sadhus. Non Hindus are not allowed inside the temple.

Took a cab back to the hotel 100 rs. Had lunch. Ate too much, more cramps. Decided to take some cipro and lomitil. I have lost quite a lot of weight.

Phone call, Ram and Hari in the lobby. Sat on the patio with them and had a beer and looked at the pictures. They seemed quite happy to see them. Had some very good pictures of them. Ram invited us to his flat for dinner to-morrow night at 6.00 pm [Dahl Bhat]. Went to slide show about rafting. Soup for supper. Home to bed at 2049
