Day 23 Tuesday October 29th:Sauraha to KathmanduLeft Chitwan at 9 am to catch bus at Sauraha going to Kathmandu. Only two in the jeep, 6 guys had to push jeep to get it started. Had to try 3 times. Away we went. Many buses at the main road, lots of people waiting. The bus was late, left about 10.30. A long ride, stopping often to pick up people, for food and toilet. Incredible road, narrow, steep drop offs. Closed my mind to the dangers of the ride. Meeting many buses, few cars, people, goats on the road. Bus driver constantly honking his horn. They seem to have an unwritten law about who has the right of way on these roads. Saw some rafters on the river. Last 50 km into Kathmandu is spectacular. switch backs up the mountain. The bus going very slow, climbing all the time. Stopped at police checkpoint. Arrived at bus stop after dark. Met a couple from Whistler on bus. He said he was going to the Potalla and to follow him. He even offered to carry some of our bags. Such nice people one meets when traveling. Turned out it was a different hotel but he directed us to the Potalla Guest House, found it with no problems. They had no rooms. Went next door to the Tayoma. Will stay here until we leave. Clean nice, comfortable $10.00 Am /day. Man from Seattle from the bus staying here also.
