Camp
Cherokee can be very hot in July, especially if you have been in the AC
all summer and have to make the mile long hike to the waterfront. Thirty-one
Scouts and twelve Scouters made the trip to the waterfront several times
(sometimes daily) and all of us survived. The waterfront is a good place
to be going to at summer camp, because your arrival means you can
have a cool dip in the lake.... after you check in with the staff, that
is. Waterfront activities were only a few of the fun things
Troop 103 participated in, in fact Troop 103 was visible in almost every
area of Cherokee Scout Reservation. Troop 103, champions in basketball,
soccer and 2nd place in volleyball made our presence known from the first
day of camp. We had 70 plus merit badges, completed 6 - Mile Swims and
ended up with 1 BSA Lifeguard (the first in several years), as well as
having several adult leaders complete the Scoutmaster Merit Badge and become
qualified for Safety Afloat and Safe Swim Defense.
Special events, such as our 6:45 a.m. flag raising, saw a friendly competition between "A" camp and "B" camp, to see who could be dressed and in formation. Needless to say, "A" camp received a good beating. We paid the ultimate price finding out you have to get up pretty early in the morning to beat those guys, in fact, you have to get up about 5:00 am to beat them. You can see we all had great fun.
The week was 100% a success, made that way by the excellent Scout leadership that participated. Lee C., Justin G., Andrew O., Chris L., John S., Alan H., Loch S., Theo S., Garrett B., all older scouts were very important in making camp the success it was.
Many thanks to the adults that gave their time to spend time with the troop, without your help this would not have happened. Thanks to all of the parents who came out to visit, especially on Thursday night, we all enjoyed your company.
Special thanks to Mr. Mike Urban, who went
out in a blaze of glory, for taking the organization and planning of Summer
Camp as his project. The Urbans will be moving to Orlando at the end of
this month, we will miss all of you very much.

We hate to see you go!
I know you will all join me in saying "good bye"
to the Urban and LaRocque families, who are moving to new homes. We wish
them well and may "God Bless". We look forward to their return visits and
mail.
