A QUICK MEETING IN INTERROGATION ROOM II

A. Kite (April 2002)

"You're the guy they got to be me?" < eyes roll once they've been up and down >

"Yeah, well, short notice and all." < shrug >

"Where'd they dig you up from? You look like a refugee from the cover of Goodwill magazine."

"I was over at the 1-8, Stylepig."

"Oh, good one. That really stung me. < hand over the heart as he moves menacingly closer > I've got four words for you, Kowalski, before I go: Hands off the Mountie."

"What!?"

"You'll find out. First time you see him. But etch these words into your head. Hands off. The gig is only temporary, and if I come back and find a hair of Benny's out of place, I'll shoot you." < a push to the shoulder >

"Yeah? Well, for your information, I don't screw around with guys. Especially not ones that look like Dudley Do Right. So take your threats with you and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. I got work to do here."

"I'm going, but I'll be dusting him for fingerprints when I get back." < cocks his finger like a pistol and points, then out the door >

Jeez, what a nut. Like I'm going to jump the guy's bones or something. Sheesh.

Approximately one week later:

"Ray!" < beautiful, hopeful face falls as a stranger looks up >

"Fraser!" < moves in for the hug. Sends strong mental message toward Las Vegas: The deal is off, Vecchio. >
