Chapter 16 - Time To Trust?

~ 2 WEEKS LATER ~

Nick starred blankly at the TV in front of him, they were leaving to England tomorrow and he still hadn’t talked to Jet. He missed her so much, but the hurt was beyond what he was used to. The thought she actually thought it was him doing that to her plagued his mind. He glanced over at the phone desperate to pick it up and call her, but he couldn’t – he wouldn’t. She’d tried to ring him, she’d tried to see him, but each time, he looked upon her with sad eyes and turned her away. His parents though upset to see him the way he was, determined to tell him almost everyday that he was – in fact, making the right decision and that soon the pain would go away. A pen and pad lay dormant on the floor beside him, a few careless lines scribbled across them – nothing more, nothing less.

It hurts too much, I cant take the pain, I'm crying now, why cant you take this pain away…

~ AT THE SAME TIME ~

Jet was tried of trying, he wouldn’t see her, he wouldn’t speak to her, what else was she meant to do? This wasn’t something she was used to doing, never before did she care for someone like she did Nick, usually she was glad to be rid of the guy – they only made things complicated. But this time was different, she wanted – more than anything – to tell him she was sorry, she longed to hold him, and for him to tell her it was okay, the way he used to.

She’d had only one phone call since Nick left that night, 2 weeks ago. It was shortly after he left the house, leaving the beautiful locket in her small hands.

Enter fluffy music as I go back in time)

147;Hello?” Jet answered picking the phone up quickly, praying it was Nick

147;Lover boys gone now, huh?” the croaky electronic voice laughed

“Leave me alone” Jet stammered

“You thought it was him? HaHa, poor silly Jet, you lost one good thing in your life, are you ready to loose another?”

“Why are you doing this?”

“Because blood runs deep Jet, betrayal runs even deeper” the voice snickered before hanging up

“No” Jet cried cradling the phone in her shaking hands

She’d heard no more after that, but she knew it wasn’t Nick. But she couldn’t tell him that, cause he wouldn’t listen. The phone beside her rung starling her from her thinking.

“Hello?” she mumbled down the phone

“Is this Jet?” a male voice inquired

“Yes, who’s this?”

“It’s Brian, Nicks friend, we met a little while ago”

The face joined to the name as Jet remembered him.

“Oh yeah, I remember you, what can I do for you?”

“Well I don’t know what happened between you and Nick and I know its not really my business but he’s pretty upset”

“I’ve tried to ring him, and see him, but he wont see me”

“We’re leaving tomorrow, to Europe. United Airlines, flight 302, departing 12.30pm. Be there and I’ll make sure he talks to you, you two seem made for each other”

“Thanks Brian”

“Anytime. Goodnight Jet”

“Night”

~ THE NEXT DAY 12:30PM ~

Security wasn’t a problem for Jet, thankfully the boys weren’t too big in America so not many people knew or even cared about their departure. She saw him wander blindly by in the distance as she sat in the departure lounge waiting to see him.

“Nick” she called, bolting upright

His head spun around to the call of his own name as Jet slowly walked up to him.

“Jet what you doing here?” Nick inquired as the others walked by him

“Trying to say sorry to you Nick” Jet pleaded, the feeling of tears welling up inside her

“I don’t need your apologies” he replied stubbornly

“Then at least let me give this back to you, I don’t deserve it” she responded opening his hand and dropping the petite chain onto his palm.

“I'm sorry for mistrusting you Nick, I was wrong, but I was scared. I understand that you don’t want to see me again” she sighed backing away from him “And I owe you that much”

Nick stood silent for a moment as she turned and walked slowly away.

“Jet wait!” he called

She spun around, her eyes filled with question. Without words he walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her thin frame, his head burying itself in her luscious hair.

“I love you baby” was all his whispered as they held each other close

He broke free from the embrace his smile echoing hers.

“I have to go now, but when I get back I hope you’ll be here” he smiled touching her face softly with his hand “And please wear this” he added handing her back the chain and locket

“I’ll be waiting Nick” Jet replied leaning up and kissing his cheek

~ 1 WEEK LATER ~

Jet walked briskly out of the studio, the guys were still in there discussion some changes in the beat.

“I have to go” Jet wined looking down at her clock

“Fine, it’s all good we don’t need you here, you leave” Devin replied smiling up at his impatient sister

“Where you jetting off to anyway, no pun intended” Seth laughed

“I got a message from Nick telling me to pick up a package waiting for me” she smiled

“You sure you’ll be okay by yourself?” Devin inquired

“Dev it’s only at the park down the road, some FedEx guy will meet me there, and it is like 7 in the evening, I'm sure I’ll be fine” she laughed brushing his worry off.

There had been no more calls, no more letters, nothing. Harold, the officer in charge of keeping tabs on Ryan had said nothing had changed, no calls had been made, nothing had been found, he seemed to be living a normal life and had not even asked about Jet. Hesitant at first Jet didn’t believe him, but as nothing further happened, she slowly but surely believed this nightmare was over.

~ AT THE SAME TIME ~

“Mr. McKennith, please open the door” the officer with Harold demanded as he banged on the door

“You have to the count of 3 Mr. McKennith” Harold added peering into the window as best he could

The door came down easily against the muscular officers weight. They yanked out their pistols and looked around the small house,

“When was the last time someone spoke to him?” Harold inquired as they sulked around the house

“A coupla days age” the other officer replied sheepishly

“What? He’s meant to be checked up on EACH day”

147;He was doing better so-“

“So? That’s a fucking reason to keep your eye on him” Harold announced walking into the bedroom “Oh SHIT” he screamed as he looked across the wall directly opposite the doorway

“FUCK YOU” was scrawled across it in black spray paint, underneath a note attached to it.

Harold ripped it off the wall and began to read.

Ha, you thought you could keep me under tabs, well allow me to point out the obvious, you failed.

“Get the department on the phone, now, and call the McKennith family in Florida” Harold announced sighing loudly, and praying he wasn’t already too late.

AT THE SAME TIME ~

Jet waited in the park, there weren’t many people around, a few people walking their dogs, some couples over in the corner. Nothing new, nothing strange. It confused Jet a tad why she had to be out in the middle of the park, but she figured when Nick tried to be romantic the least she could do was do what he said. The note she’d gotten simply read;

I need you to go somewhere, I’m sending something special for you, and I want it to be in a place we used to go. Go down to the park at 7, a FedEx guy will meet you there. Remember when we used to sit in the park, in each others arms, safe from the world? I remember.

Loving You always,

Nick

She’d been a bit skeptical, but they did used to go to that park, and just sit, long before Ryan even knew where she was. It was Nick, she was certain of it.
