Prolog

You never know where life will lead you, or who it’ll lead you to, sometimes what you imagine your ideal life to be, couldn’t be further from the truth.

The year is 1998. The mid September sun bet down onto the parched Florida ground as Jet looked around searching for her delinquent brother and the rest of Covert – the rock/alternative band she was in. They’d been around for just under 2 years, working their way to the top of the alternative charts. It had been a long and tiresome 2 years, full with band replacements, practicing, the occasional second rate gig, and of course finally the big break to play the rock and alternative capacity crowd orgy – the Australasian “Big Day Out”, and now through it all they were finally breaking out into the states. The day had come though to move on from ‘Transcontinental Records’ the label forever trying to make Covert into a softer version, or perhaps a louder version of pop, an idea which created a wave through the group. So there Jet was, standing alone and annoyed outside the headquarters of “The Firm” the management and label they were about to get signed to. She studied her watch again, she could just kill him.

“BOO!” a voice called startling her

“For gods sake Jeremy grow a fucking brain. Where the hell have you been?” she hissed placing her hands on her thin hips

“For an 18 year old you sure are a staunch bitch” he laughed

“Fuck you. Where are the others?”

“Your bro was on his way, passed him in the ‘shit mobile’ and I think Seth is just pulling in now” he replied as he idly fiddled with the eyebrow ring through his left brow.

“Seth is here” the bleach blond announced taking a bow, as he hopped out of his 2 door car.

“Yeah well it’s about time” Jet replied

A rusted blue car spluttered into the car park, the back end scraping along the driveway in a thick cloud of smoke.

“The ‘Shit mobile’ has arrived” Jeremy clapped

The car pulled to a halt beside the three on lookers, the door creaked open and out stepped a tall semi beefy looking guy with below the ear dark brown hair.

“Hey sis” he smiled looking on at his sisters disgusted look

“Why do you insist on driving that piece of junk?” she questioned

“It’s a classic” he laughed

“Yeah aha, I believe you”

“It’s crap, crap, crap, crap Dev” Seth coughed

“Okay enough, come on we’re already late” Jet announced bounding through sliding glass doors.

~ AT THE SAME TIME ~

The tall blond yawned loudly as he ran the tips of his fingers through his ear length hair. The discussion of salaries and albums bored him to the degree of loosing brain cells. His mind flipped around what he would rather be doing – boating, sitting on the beach, playing basketball, watching TV – hell anything had to be better than this.

“Nick are you listening?” a southern voice questioned looking with intent blue eyes over at him

“Huh? Oh yeah, whatever” Nick replied oblivious to the fact the whole room was eyeing him up.

“What Kev said” he added, that answer usually sufficed. No response came, so again, the blanket answer he’d given worked.

His eyes wandered out the doorway, the thought of how quickly he could escape this dull meeting crossed through his mind. Then SHE walked past. Her stained black hair bouncing around her slim shoulders, her small belly top, showing off her tanned thin stomach laced with a belly chain and decorated with a belly piercing. His immediate reaction was to get up and follow her, but he sighed in the realization the room was once again focusing their attention on him. He sunk further down in his seat, and wished silently he was elsewhere.
