The First Ever Vixen Fan Fiction Awards
First off to all of you that voted - wow - the response was amazing and you as voters should all be commended for supporting your fav writer.
To the writers themselves, personally I feel that every single writer out there deserves a round of applause, whether entered in these awards or not, why? Because they give each and every one of us a chance to escape reality and drown ourselves in the works of their imaginations, as a writer myself I know what a tremendous effort this is, but it is also, as I have found, enjoyable and rewarding. It is an incredible act to open something as personal as your imagination and share it with countless people, so for that all writers/dreamers should be honoured. Not forgetting you readers.....who are the people that in the end make it all worth it.....(OMG I should like some musician thanking my fans...because "without them I/we wouldn't be here..." hahaha..*ahem* anyway)
So moving along, the nominations were taken, the vote started, then on the 22nd of November 2000 the poll was officially finished, the votes finalized and the awards given out....I actually sent an award to everyone, as i felt they all deserved credit, But special awards were made for the TOP 5 - and below this little banter is where you will find the winners, along with my personal takes on each site/story......
1st Place - "Loving Blind" - by Kerri Littrell
This one really did intrigue me at first, when it showed up in my mailbox as a nomination, I hadn't actually read it....but as i do, i got interested and went and had a look. It really is in my opinion a good fan fiction, its a simple story line...boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love get married.....But the action really occurs when one of them is unfaithful...Its a love story of how sometimes you just cant give up....and you cant give in. Mainly based on Nick Carter, it really is a must read.
2nd Place - "Dangerous Liaisons"
Wow, is really a way to describe this one. It's very rare for a story to show a "darker" side to "our boys" but this story pulled it off with honour and brilliance. It's a long one, but worth the read....I mean who else would think that Little Brian Littrell would essentially Lie, Cheat and manipulate to get what he wants?...No? neither did I but then this little tale got me thinking.....perhaps behind those alluring baby blues and soulfull voice is a nasty, nasty boy???....Na.... "Dangerous Liaisons" is definitely an original spin on things and worth checking out.
3rd Place - "Summer Heat" - By Megan
Without been bias (Meg is my beloved partner in Fan Fic Crime) I assure you this story is a literally masterpiece. Its the first in what is essentially a 3 part series that follows the life and love of the hopeless romantic Hayley and (of course) Nick Carter. Ever had the experience of everything in your life changing in the span of Summer? No? I have, well okay I technically HAVEN'T but this story through its intricate design and flow really does put you in the characters head, you see what she does, feel what she does....a tale that pulls the heart cords, makes you smile, allows you to grin madly at the computer, sigh *ohhh* at certain occasions and boasts many powerful emotions all in one. In my opinion this is one of the most emotional and powerful stories i have read....only one warning, Crying on the keyboard may actually ruin it, so tissues are a must!
4th Place - "Nothing Lasts" - By Katy
On the same site as "Dangerous Liaisons" this story follows the same high standard set. An original plot, that well....you wouldn't think....It starts off with an amazing song, and a prologue that leaves you guessing.....When one Backstreet Boys makes a rash decision based on love and passion long since lost, little does he realize he changes the entire world around him. This one will touch your heart while at the same time, spinning you into a web of intrigue and excitement. Worth a read? Oh hell Yes! This one kept me occupied for days on end (and trust me, that's pretty hard, lets say I have the attention span of, well....Nick LOL). I would tell you which boy this one revolves around, but then I'd be giving away too much....so just go check it out yourself.....
The title sums it up really.....Its about the struggle the life and love are (in the world of fan fiction) destined to throw at you. A story that makes you feel so close to the characters, you actually start telling them things through the computer screen...not that *I* do that *ahem*. Just one of many amazing stories on one site and definitely worth a read - just remember staring at the screen for hours on end dying to find out "what happens next" isn't always the best for your eyes and can create a "hermit" like persona...so remember...after 5 chapters, try and look away....though with this story, that's a pretty big effort....enthralling all the way!
So those are the TOP 5 fan fictions as voted by YOU (the reader), and of course my take on each one of them. The next lot of people are to be commended for the simple reason they deserve it - there can only be 5 winners, but in my eyes each one nominated and voted for are winners also, so congrats to everyone involved and remember
