Chapter 13: A Day With The Boys - Part 2
We went into the family room and asked the
others to leave.
We too went through the usual routine as I sat back comfortably,
pencil in hand.
"Even though the boys are more men now, you're still the
youngest. But you're now much older than even Kevin was when the
Backstreet Boys were formed. Do you still get babied a bit or has
Nick Carter and his fans grown out of that stage?" I asked,
looking at him. I couldn't concentrate. All I saw was us making
love and all I felt was this mad rush of love flow through my
body. I shifted uncomfortably as he began to talk.
"I still get it sometimes. No offence, but you'd think the
press would be sick of calling me the baby of the group by now.
But some people like to keep us in the boyband mold that we're
not and by doing that they put us into these characterizations to
separate us and make us look like other bands," he replied.
Aaron came strolling in as I was about to ask him another
question.
"Hey AC, what's up?" Nick said as Aaron chomped on a
lollipop.
"Nothin'. Hi Kate!" Aaron said cutely as he continued
to walk through the family room into the kitchen.
Nick looked back at me waiting for a question. I stared at him.
"Kate?"
"Oh yeah, sorry," I apologized as I snapped out of my
trance. He laughed to himself.
"Ummm," I replied, searching through my notes.
"Oh ummm, you've worked with many artists throughout your
career. Who was the one you enjoyed working with the most or the
one you enjoyed performing with the most?"
"Probably Shania Twain or Elton John. Shania and her husband
have done some work on albums for us and they're just amazing
people. Elton, we've performed and worked with him and he is one
of the most talented men I've ever seen in my life," he
concluded. We stared at each other for a long moment before he
leaned into me and placed his lips on mine. I kissed him back
with desire and intensity.
"Thought this was an interview," Aaron smartly remarked
as he came out of the kitchen, walked through the family room and
went down the corridor. We broke away and looked at each other
for a long moment.
"Right yeah. This is professional," I said outloud as I
flipped through the rest of the pages, looking for more
questions. He came at me again, pushing his lips harder as his
tongue slid inside my mouth. I fell back on the couch as he laid
on top of me. He pressed against me hard as I began kissing his
neck and his lips quickly and powerfully.
"Ehem," a voice cleared their throat.
I thought I heard someone, but I continued to kiss Nick back.
"EHEM!" I heard the voice yell.
Nick flew off me and back into his seat as I sat up and
straightened my dress.
"Hey dad," Nick said, blushing.
"Hello Bob," my voice cracked.
"And what are you doing?" He asked, teasingly.
"An interview, yeah an interview," Nick said, adjusting
his shirt.
His dad giggled and walked out of the room.
"Okay, let's try to get through this interview without
making it sexual. Agree?" I asked, taking a deep breath.
"Agree."
~FORTY-FIVE MINUTES LATER~
Nick's interview had taken longer than expected. I guess all of
the sidetracking took a good chunk of time. I hurried out of the
Carter mansion and back down to the basketball courts. Brian was
by himself shooting baskets when I arrived.
"Sorry I'm late," I apologized, my chest moving up and
down quickly.
"It's okay. Needed some quality time with Nicky I
assume," he said, setting down the ball and taking a seat on
the bench.
"Ehem, yeah," I said shyly.
"Here have a seat," he kindly offered.
I sat down and flipped to the "Brian Questions" page of
my notebook.
After the usual routine I began to fire away.
"Who are you the closest to in the band and why?" I
asked, already knowing it was Nick. But I'm sure the fans wanted
to know a bit more why.
"I think I'm closest to Nick. Even though our ages seemed so
far apart when we started out, now it doesn't seem like we were
ever that far apart - even back then. When he was younger Nick
was going through a lot. He was young, he missed home, and he was
growing up. I think that I can pretty much be the older brother
Nick never had. He comes to me with a lot of things, but mostly
we have fun together. People think of us as a pair. We have a lot
in common and we like to do the same things, so that's a big
reason why," Brian searched his brain. There was a deeper
connection between them, one that you could perhaps not put into
words, but it was there.
"Who is your biggest inspiration personally and
musically?"
"In my personal life it would have to be God. He's given me
a lot and it would also have to be my family. They've been there
through everything. Musically, there's not one single person, but
as a member of a group I'd have to say Boyz II Men."
"Do you think that some music acts go over the top to get
what you have achieved?"
"I think that some of them are a bit over the top anyway,
but everyone has a different style and if they like that style,
then go for it. I think the success that we have achieved has
taken a lot of hard work and I don't think many people can get
there by just stealing styles of others. They have to work for
it. I'd hope."
Brian shifted in his seat as his crystal blue eyes studied me.
Brian was one of the most gentle and sweet guys I'd ever met. In
my opinion he couldn't hurt a fly. After the interview we chatted
for a while. He answered my questions so quickly and precisely
that I had some time before Howie's interview. We chatted some
about Nick. Brian's brotherly tone was obvious as he stared up at
me seriously.
"Did he tell you?" I asked quietly.
"Yeah he did. I'm very happy for the both of you, just a bit
scared."
I questioned his eyes with mine.
"The whole media thing, huh?" I answered my question.
"I'm more afraid for you Kate than I am for him."
"Thank you Brian. We're going to fight to make this work -
at least I am, with all my heart," I reassured him before we
embraced and I left.
I signaled a taxi and headed uptown to a coffee shop to meet with
Howie.
When I walked into the coffee shop he stood up from his chair and
greeted me with a kiss on the cheek.
"Hey D," I said sweetly as I took a seat.
After the last of the routine with the five guys I set the
recorder down and began firing away.
"What's the best thing about being a Backstreet Boy?"
He began to open his mouth when I cut him off.
"Besides all the girls swooning over you," I added with
a laugh. He chuckled a bit.
"Well, there are perks to being famous, but the biggest one
I think is the traveling. We've seen the world, met so many great
people, and experienced a lot that no one else has. It's
amazing," he replied. His slicked back hair stayed perfectly
in place. I nodded in agreement.
"How about the rivalry between other artists and you five,
how do you perceive that?"
"It gets to me, I mean it gets to all of us. But our fans
seem to love what we're doing and that's all that counts. It's
just frustrating at times, but we try to do what we do and not
let what other groups or artists do bother us."
Howie seemed to be the calmest of the group. A "go with the
flow" kind of guy. He let things roll off of him easily and
just went with the groove.
"What do you see yourself doing if the Backstreet Boys
weren't around anymore?"
He hesitated, but he clearly had his mind set on what he wanted
to say.
"I think I'd be working with music, but probably with other
artists. I'm not much of a soloist, but I do love to produce and
write. I have for other artists outside of the Backstreet
Boys."
Howie's smile was captivating and I was sure any woman was a
magnet to it. I told him about A.J.'s dinner offer and told him
I'd see him in a half hour for the group interview. He kissed my
cheek and I was off.
I got back to the Carter mansion just as Nick was coming out of
the shower.
"Hey you," I said, smacking his butt that was wrapped
in a thin white towel and nothing else.
He smirked at me.
"How was your interviews?" He asked, brushing his hair
in the mirror of his room. Yeah like he had much hair to brush.
"Great. I got to know them a lot better and they just,
they're amazing. They answered my questions so throughly and
profoundly," I said, taking off my dress to change my
clothes.
Nick walked up behind me and put his arms around my waist.
"So we're all going to dinner right? Everyone knows?"
He asked.
"Yup. Parents, kids, whoever, everyone's invited. Did you
tell your parents?" I asked, placing my arms around his.
"Yup."
"You know, you in that towel is very tempting, but we have
to meet the guys for the last interview in about twelve
minutes," I turned around and smiled up at him.
"I haven't had any time with you in almost a week Kaitlyn,
you're killing me," he teased as he dropped his towel.
"Don't tempt me Carter," I replied dryly, still with a
smirk.
He kissed my neck and released me to put on his boxer shorts. We
quickly got dressed and headed out the door, both prepared for a
night out with the Backstreet Boys.
