Chapter Seven - Third Wish
After lunch we decided to go on a cruise of
the city. There were boats that went all around the outskirts of
the city and he had never had a chance to do that. Actually
neither had I.
He paid for us at the counter and we climbed onto the boat. The
remainder of the clouds had cleared out and even though it was
chilly, it was a beautiful day.
We sat down in the boat and listened to the tour guide give us
instructions.
"Please do not put your arms or legs outside of the
boat," she instructed.
Of course Nick had to mimic anything she said.
"What about other parts?" He smartly replied.
"Excuse me sir?" The lady asked.
"Oh no, nothing, I was talking to my fiancee," he said,
nodding to me.
"Ah!" I said, slapping him in his arm.
He laughed loudly.
"Hey mister if I was your fiancee, there would be a fat ring
on my finger!"
I yelled, flashing my hand in his face. We both giggled as the
boat began to sail away from its port.
"You know I was born in New York, but I'm only usually here
on business, so I never really get to see the sights. I'm
surprised no one's recognized me yet," he observed.
"Well, look around you," I said, almost bursting out
into laughter. Everyone in our boat wasn't any younger than
sixty-five. That's probably why no one had noticed yet.
He chuckled loudly.
"Besides, it's mid-day, most of the teeny boppers are at
school," I said, moving closer to him.
The wind from the water and the movement of the ship whipped his
hair around gently. His strands would go in and out of his eyes,
which were slightly squinting from the sunlight as it was.
His shirt blew in and out of the wind.
"What?" He asked, cracking a smile and poking me in my
stomach.
"Nothing. Can't I stare at you?" I asked, stepping into
dangerous waters.
"I guess, did you want my autograph?" He teased.
"Actually," I started fiddling through my purse.
"Hey!" He said, shutting my purse, trapping my finger
in the button on it.
"Ouch!" I squealed. "I was just teasing Carter and
now I'm bleedin'!" I yelled like a damsel in distress.
"I'm sorry, do you want me to kiss it?" He asked,
looking at me helplessly.
I wiped the cut away and cleaned it with my Kleenex.
"Okay," I said, trying to look pathetic.
He took my finger and moved it acrossed his lips softly. They
were soft and welcoming. He slowly put my finger just slightly in
his mouth. I closed my eyes in pleasure.
"Over to the right you will now see the Statue Of Liberty,
given to America many centuries ago from the French," the
tour guide said. She seemed light years away as I concentrated on
his lips. He softly kissed the tip of my finger.
"Thank you," I whispered. I couldn't manage to get
hardly any words past my mouth. I couldn't speak.
The boat sailed on.
"You better take a good look at Ms. Liberty on your distant
left now," I said as the boat went on. Nick turned around to
take in the sights.
~ONE HOUR LATER~
It was after four in the afternoon when our cruise had ended. We
decided to head back to his hotel room so he could change for
dinner and then we would go to mine and I would get ready. By the
time we were both ready and found somewhere to eat it would be
time for dinner. We headed up to the rich district of the City.
The hotel the Backstreet Boys were staying in was close to the
Gardens and was quite fancy. I'd never been to a hotel this
elegant, even with all of the beats I'd covered.
"A.J., D, what's up?" Nick said, slapping their hands
in the hotel lobby.
"Hey Nicky, what's goin' on?" Howie answered back.
"Hello Kate," A.J. said, taking my hand and kissing it
softly. What a ladies' man! Howie did the same.
Nick gave them a âstay away from her - she's mine'
look.
"Sorry Nicky, didn't mean to steal your girl," A.J.
teasingly said. I blushed.
They talked for a few minutes and then said their good bye's.
"Hope to see you in Florida Kate," A.J. said, tipping
his hat to me.
We went up to Nick's room. It was the largest hotel room I'd ever
seen in my life. It was larger than my apartment.
"I'll just be a second," he said, disappearing into the
wardrobe to get changed. I sat down on his bed and looked around
the room.
~TEN MINUTES LATER~
Nick appeared from the wardrobe. He looked so handsome I couldn't
even speak. He was wearing a pair of black slacks and a white
dress shirt. He had a black jacket and shoes to match. He had put
water and a little bit of gel in his hair and had it combed
perfectly to land in his face. He smelled of Gravity cologne. I
remembered reading that years ago he wore that cologne. I loved
that scent on men. Thank goodness he still wore it. He was fixing
his cuffs on his shirt as he stepped out in front of me. My mouth
was hanging slightly.
"Kate? Kate? You okay?" He asked as I stared off into
space.
"Umm, yeah, umm, almost ready?" I managed to say in
barely a whisper. His blue eyes were intense against the black in
his suit. He grabbed his wallet and jewelry from the table and we
left.
~TWENTY MINUTES LATER - BACK AT MY APARTMENT~
We walked in the door and I handed him the remote to the T.V. so
he could watch it.
"Wow, Kate, look at the sunset," he said, looking the
french double doors that led out to my balcony. I did have a
small apartment, but I had an awesome view of the city.
"I love it when it's pink like that, especially over the
water," I said, unbuttoning my shirt slightly. He watched
me.
"I'll be done in about twenty minutes, go ahead and watch
T.V. if you'd like," I said, walking into my room and
shutting the door.
~TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES LATER~
I put the last of my hair spray in my hair and adjusted myself in
the mirror. I didn't look good enough in my opinion. I fixed my
silky blue dress over and over again. I adjusted my nylons three
times, my boobs six times, (after all, every woman needs
cleavage, esp. with a Backstreet Boy!) and changed my shoes two
times. I had my hair pinned up with pieces slightly coming down
in my face. My dress was about mid thigh and the back was open
cut. I put some earrings into my ears and sprayed a bit of
perfume on myself.
"Well Shania, what do you think?" I said, looking at my
fluffy cat.
"Moowww," she replied. I kissed her on the head and
walked out of the bathroom.
When I entered the living room Nick stood up immediately.
"Wow," he said, smirking to the right side of his mouth
yet again. Reminded me of that damned I Want It That Way' video
from so many years ago.
"You look great Kate," he said, approaching me. His
eyes fixated on my face, then traced down acrossed my chest,
where they stayed for a little while before traveling down to my
waist and then my legs.
"No, YOU look great," I said, poking him in his chest.
"I just gotta switch purses, then I'll be ready, okay?"
I asked. He nodded and shut off the T.V.
After five minutes we left the apartment.
"Wanna drive Carter?" I asked, tossing him the keys.
"Sure," he said, disarming my car. He opened my car
door for me.
"My lady," he sweetly replied as he helped me into the
car.
"Thank you sir." I got comfortable in my car and I
couldn't stop smiling.
We were driving across town to a fancy restaurant that Nick said
he and the boys sometimes went to when they were in town. He said
it was really good and elegant.
~AT THE RESTAURANT~
The place was absolutely beautiful. There was a huge dance floor
and a live band playing. The scene was relaxing and romantic.
They had white Christmas lights and candles lighting most of the
room. You could eat near a window and look over Central Park and
a few of the most popular bridges. I'd never in my life been
taken to a more exquisite restaurant. As we were brought to our
table, Nick pulled my chair out for me and then sat down in his
seat.
"Well, what do you think?" He asked with hopefulness.
"Wow, what did I do to deserve this, it's a great place
Nick," I looked around and replied.
"Well, see, that's my second wish, is that you enjoy
yourself tonight and let me pay for everything," he offered,
putting his hands over mine.
"Oh Nick, I couldn't possibly let you pay for all of
this," I softly said.
"That's my second wish and you have to make it come
true," he said with a puppy-dog look on his face. I couldn't
resist.
"Oh are you sure?" I reassuringly asked. He was being
so sweet and I wasn't use to this kind of treatment. It had been
years since I'd been out on a date.
"I'm absolutely positive Ms. McBride, so sit back and relax
and enjoy yourself," he concluded as he signaled the waiter.
"What do you drink?" He asked.
"A glass of wine will be fine," I replied as I flipped
through the menu. The prices were amazing.
"The lady will have a glass of wine and I will have a
Coke," he told the dark haired short man.
I questioned him with my eyes.
"I don't drink really and especially not when I drive,"
he said, opening his menu.
"So what's good here?" I asked, skimming through the
pages of the menu.
~FORTY FIVE MINUTES LATER~
We were just about through with dinner by now. I was stuffed
full. "Would you like to dance?" He asked, standing up
from his chair and setting down his napkin. He put his hand out
for me to take.
"I'd love to," I smiled as I took his hand.
He pulled me into his arms and put his hands around my waist. I
felt the warmth of his body fill every inch of mine. It had been
one of the best days of my life and I didn't want it to end.
After the dance he paid and we left.
We decided to return to my apartment since it was still early and
go for a night cap later.
~THIRTY MINUTES LATER~
"Traffic in this city is absolutely insane," he said as
he opened the door for us. We set down all of our stuff.
"I just have to give the dog some water, I'll be right
back," I said before walking into the kitchen.
As I filled Mutt's bowl I looked out to see Nick on the balcony.
The french doors were cracked as he stared out into the well-lit
city. I walked over to the door and snuck outside.
"Boo," I said, walking up behind him.
"Is Mutt okay?" He asked as we both looked out at the
city.
"He'll survive. Beautiful isn't it?" I asked, looking
at the buildings and street cars.
"Yeah," he said, staring at me. "You are."
I blushed slightly. I wrapped my hands around my arms, I was
getting cold.
"Here, take this," he said, putting his coat over my
shoulders.
"Thank you," I said, leaning on the ledge of the
balcony. "I love living here, there's just something about
it," I said as I moved closer to him.
He was still staring at me. I turned to face him.
He looked at my eyes and he seemed to reach past them and
straight to my soul. He put his hand on my waist gently and
pulled me into him. Our bodies pressed up against one another. As
I came closer to him I could see his eyes in the moonlight. They
were piercing, yet gentle and welcoming. I stared at his lips.
We were only inches apart now. The world seemed to freeze.
"I'd like my third wish now," He whispered through the
cold winter breeze.
"What's that Nick?" I asked quietly.
"Can I kiss you?" He politely asked as he moved in
closer so now his nose touched mine.
I shook my head up and down, my heart beating rapidly. His nose
played with mine for a moment. He then placed his lips on my
forehead and kissed it gently, then my eyes, my nose, my cheeks.
"Are you sure?" He asked even quieter.
"Yes..." I pleaded in a pathetic little voice.
He came in closer until are lips barely touched. Moments later
with force he pressed them against mine. My inside's melted away
and my body began to shake. I put my arms as far around his neck
as I could. He pulled my body even closer against his. We kissed
softly for a few minutes. He pulled away, but I wanted more. He
looked into my eyes.
With passion and force I stood on my tip toes to reach his lips
and I pressed mine even harder against his. He opened his mouth
so I could reach into him. I pushed my tongue into his mouth as
he forced his into mine. I pressed my body up against him and I
could feel him growing with passion. He wanted me as much as I
wanted him. Our heads moved back and forth as I grabbed onto his
shirt tightly. We kissed for a matter of minutes. I didn't want
to let go. When we separated I was still on a passionate high. I
felt bad for wanting to just tear his clothes off, but I needed
him - I needed him as close to me as possible.
"Kate, are you okay?" He asked, releasing me a little
to look at me.
I couldn't speak. All I could do was wrap my arms around him
tighter and hug him.
"I guess that's a yes..." He concluded, taking me into
his arms.
~FIVE MINUTES LATER~
He released me from his arms.
"I didn't think you could see stars in New York," he
whispered. I turned around so that my stomach was against the
ledge.
"Sometimes you can," I said, looking up into the dark,
clear night. He came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my
waist tightly. He pressed himself up against me.
"I never want this night to end Kaitlyn," he whispered
in my ear.
"Me neither...me neither," I said, placing my arms
around his as we both stared out into the cold, wintery night.
