CHAPTER 5 - ASHES

“Meghan are you okay?” father Howie inquired

“Go away, just go away” Meghan hissed running down the front steps

She ran to her car, hopped in, slamming the door, and sped off down the road, her eyes slightly wet with tears.

“Right that’s it, I'm not even going to think about Father Howie anymore, he’s out of my mind, I'm going to find some one else” Meghan decided as she wiped her eyes

~ THE CIRCUS ~

It was an hour before the gates opened, and everyone seemed to be in a mad rush.  Stone Cold couldn’t stay, though he wanted to, because he had an important wedding cake to decorate, so when duty calls – duty calls.  Mandy flicked her hair up into a ponytail and threaded through some silver string.  She stretched quickly in her tight silver leotards, which despite what people would say, were extremely uncomfortable.  AJ slid into the tent and coughed his presence.

“Oh Hey AJ” Mandy smiled, as she sat down to apply her makeup

“Um, hey Mandy, so um, you looking forward to tonight?” AJ stuttered

“Well same as always, though I hear these Southerners are a weird bunch” she laughed

“I think you look um, really pretty”

“Thank you” she winked

“So I guess you’re sad to see Stone go” AJ sighed shuffling his feet across the ground

“Oh yeah, so-so” Mandy shrugged

“That doesn’t sound to sad” AJ replied, his mood instantly lifting

“Well after all, we are only married so I could get citizenship and then join the circus, I mean we kinda love each other, but we’re more like friends, it’s more of a marriage of convenience rather than love” she turned to look at AJ “You don’t know about stone do you?” she questioned

“What do you mean?”

“They wouldn’t let him into the cake decorating business if he wasn’t married, it’s one of those dumb rules they have, and I would have been deported if I didn’t get married”

“Really?”

“Uhuh, but don’t go telling everyone I have a two more months to fill out, before we can divorce”

“But what about the cake decorating association?

“If it’s my fault the marriage ended, than it’s okay.  I'm thinking maybe having an affair is the way to go”

AJ smile grew, till it was practically covering his entire face.  He said a quick pray of thanks before one of the ‘runners’ came and announced he had to haul ass outta that tent.

~ AT THE SAME TIME ~

“Thomas, don’t put popcorn up your nose” Taymar sighed, taking the popcorn away form him

Felicity snuggled up onto Taymar’s lap, as Briar played around Brian’s legs.  He picked her up and stuck her gently on his lap, her dark, semi-curly hair bouncing into his face.

“Daddy, daddy, I want the horsey” Briar announced giggling eagerly on his lap

“Well you can watch the horsey, but I don’t think you can have it” he replied softly

She smiled up at him, her deep blue eyes looking around at the growing crowd intently.

“See I told you this would be fun” Brian said leaning over Thomas to whisper in Taymar’s ear.

She smiled briefly at him before turning her attention back to Felicity who was tugging gently on her hair.

~ 20 MINUTES LATER ~

“Who is that?” Kayteline inquired looking out onto the clowns

“Uh clowns” the dope in the black suit next to her replied

“God you secret service guys are thick, I want to know his name, age, height, weight, hair color, eye color and dating status, understand?”

He nodded quickly.

“Good then go” she announced flinging her arm in disgust

He bolted upright and marched out, another guy - who looked identical - slid along the seat next to the first lady.

~ ORLANDO – CARTER/GATES HOME ~

“Oh, oh, looky it’s like my little bro, like, Aaron” BJ smiled pointing wildly at the TV

“Like hi Aaron” she laughed

“For god sakes BJ he cant hear you” Cindy announced from the kitchen as she poured herself a rum, with just a splash of coke.

“How do you know?” BJ called back

Cindy threw her hands in the air, and huffed loudly as she walked outside, slamming the ranch slider behind her.

Nick was busily swimming in the pool, trying to get some exercise or something – Cindy was sure he just liked showing his body off to anyone that just might be watching.

“Cindy what’s that?” Nick inquired suspectly – as he pointed to the drink in her hands

“Coke” she shrugged sitting down onto one of the loungers

“With?”

“With a straw” she replied sarcastically

“And?”

“And what” she blurted

“Any rum?”

“No” she lied

“Sure?”

“I'm sure” she smiled “What are you my mother?” she huffed under her breath

“What?” Nick questioned spinning back around

“Nothing sweetie” Cindy pouted sipping back on her drink.

~ ORLANDO CHRUCH ~

“Your sister seemed genuinely upset” Father Howie sighed

“So? She’s a big girl” Robin shrugged “She’ll get over what ever it was”

~ APARTMENT 308 – HEATHLEY ST, ORLANDO ~

Meghan muttered to herself through her bitter tears as she ripped down all the pictures of Father Howie she’d meticulously plastered up behind her clothes in her cupboard.  She threw them quickly into the bin.  Once done she picked the bin up, along with the bottle of mentholated sprits she’d picked up on the way home and sulked out onto the deck of her 3rd story apartment.

With a thump she place the bin full of pictures of Father Howie, she had taken, when she’d been pretending to take photos of the church itself, onto the deck and poured over the mentholated sprits generously.

With a flick of her wrist the match was lit.  she took a deep breath and dropped the match into the bin.  With one quick engulfing flame she watched her once prized possessions burn away to nothing more than ashes.
