Chapter Five: Different Lives - Same Ending....
"Uh, yeah" Nick replied, taking a sudden interest in his shoes, avoiding her eyes
"I never got to thank you" she smiled sweetly "For bringing me to the hospital"
"Anyone would have" Nick shrugged deeply, his shoulder rolling around under the white t-shirt he wore
"I know, but you did, so thanks" Ashlee thanked, draping her hand gently down his arm
"Well I suppose I should get going, I just wanted to you know, thank you" she looked up at him. He stood about a foot above her, his smile elegant, his lips poised to speak, but saying nothing, his hair slightly ruffled, his eyes the deepest radiance of blue she'd ever noted before. She smiled again, slightly drawn to his appearance, though she knew far better than to judge anything on appearance, she couldn't help but notice he was striking.
"Maybe we could -" Nick was cut off by a ringing protruding from his pocket, his face showed his annoyance as he hurriedly answered it.
"Nick, where the fuck are you?" Amanda sneered down the phone angrily
"I, -uh" Oh shit he thought, he'd once again forgotten he was supposed to meet her at the studio, she was eager to get into the music industry
"Sorry" he sighed, unable to come up with an excuse she would actually listen to
"Fuck Nick, you cant remember anything can you? I bet you forget to shit most days" she screamed
Nick held the phone down, trying to cover the speaker, when Amanda had a temper fit, she had a temper fit!
Ashlee stepped back, the sound of a screaming female poking her ears. She almost laughed but held it back, then realized Jacob would probably do exactly the same thing if it was her that had forgotten something.
"Amanda, calm down okay" Nick huffed, coming to the end of his rope
"Calm down? For fuck sake Nick" there was a pause "Are you seeing another women?" she finally questioned
Nick sighed. "No"
"Bullshit, you are, who? Who is it?"
"No one, god Amanda" Nick grumbled
"If your not here in 10 minutes I'll be eternally pissed" she announced before hanging up.
Nick sighed again and shoved the phone into his pocket.
"Sorry I -" Nick began, but Ashlee cut him off with her hand
"No need to apologize. Anyway, I should go" she spoke awkwardly, shifting her weight from one leg to the other, she looked down and then back up
"It was nice meeting you Nick" she said, sticking her hand out in a handshake gesture
He shook her hand softly.
"Nice meeting you too Ashlee"
"Well, goodbye" she smiled as she walked past him and down the hall
Nick checked his watch, 9 minutes to get across town.
"Bloody fantastic" he grunted as he hurried into the elevator
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Nick stepped in through the glass doors to find Amanda sitting on the deep black leather couch across from the door. Her face showed a look Nick was plently used to, she was pissed.
"You're late Nickolas" she muttered as she gestured for him to follow her
He obeyed like a puppy, and wandered along behind her.
"Where were you?" she questioned, flipping her blond hair behind her ear as she looked over her shoulder at him.
"Just out" Nick shrugged
She stopped in her tracts, "not even going to tell me where?" she spat, her tongue full of venom
"I was at the hospital"
She looked at him quizzically.
"You sick or something?"
"No"
"Shit Nick, are you still going up to see that girl?" she almost laughed
"I was just making sure everything's okay"
"God, some retard girl's got you sure as hell worked up" she smirked
"She's not a retard Amanda"
"Well she's bound to be, running into a car and all" she grinned as she turned back around and proceeded down the hall
"Well she seemed pretty damn normal"
"She's awake now?" Amanda exclaimed, snapping her head around
"Well yeah"
Her eyes narrowed.
"And you'll still seeing her?"
"Look, I went there to see how she was, and she'd woken up"
"You're not going back"
Nick thought to the pretty alburn haired girl in the hall.
"No" he sighed, shaking his head - he would probably never see her again
"Good" Amanda smiled, changing her tone as she slipped her arms around Nick, her left hand reached up and bought his head down, their lips meeting.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Ashlee slammed the door loudly behind her.
"It wasn't you" she announced as Jacob sat on the couch, feet up on the coffee table
"Why aren't you at work?" was his half hearted reply
"They fired me" she replied, it was the truth, they'd taken her into the office and said quite calming she would be paid for 2 weeks, but was not expected to show up for work tomorrow, she was sure legally they couldn't just do that, but she was too tired of fighting
"Shit, bloody great" he huffed, his large body shaking with what Ashlee assumed was a laugh
"It wasn't you, you never went to the hospital did you?" she questioned calmly
"Ash, I had things to do"
"What? Couldn't bare to miss Oprah?"
"No need to get snarky" he huffed, his deep voice making it sound like a growl
"You never even once went to see me, you shit, you didn't even care"
"God what did you expect me to do, be there every second?"
Ashlee thought back to Nick - he had.
She walked behind him and slammed the bedroom door, she was sick of him, she was sick of been treated this way.
