The sky was
over cast with the closing in prediction that it would rain
anytime soon, however the lunchtime crowd continued to pile in
and out of the café’s lining the main streets of Orlando.
Down one of
the side streets Ashlee strode, taking little of the scenery in,
she couldn’t understand why he wanted to see her here and
now, she was barely in the mood to face the man she’d been
trying to forget about for the past 6 months, it was always the
way though, she’d finally think she was over him, then he’d
call her up, feeding her some bull about been lost without her,
and, though she loathed herself for it – she always believed
him.
“This
time it would be different” he would say, and wanting
nothing more than to believe that she would inevitably give him
another chance.

“Shit”
the businessman cursed as he flatfooted it down the road.
He was late
for what would be the most important meeting of his life, and
there was traffic everywhere. He swerved into a sharp side
road, he was sure it would be shorter. His foot slammed
onto the accelerator as he overtook the green Durango in front of
him.

“Jesus,
someone’s in a hurry” Nick laughed to himself as he
pushed the “next” button on his stereo system.
He tapped his
steering wheel to the loud booming beat of “Rollin’”
by Limp Bizkit, as the scenery of the side street fluttered past.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Ashlee looked
down the street, then up it, not a car in sight. She
stepped out onto the road and walked across it. It wasn’t
exactly a busy street, she expected no one to come flying around
the corner.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
There was only
a split second for the businessman to respond, but it was too
late. He slammed into the girl crossing the road with an
impact that shot her meters in front of the bumper.
“Oh my
god” he screamed as he looked out through the front window
to the motionless body in front of him
“Jesus
Christ” he cursed slamming his hands on to the leather
covered steering wheel. It was then he made a split second
decision. He put the car into reverse, back up marginally,
turned the wheel to navigate past the body, and sped off.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Nick watched
the car stop, reverse then speed off, and it was only till he
drove in closer he saw the figure on the ground.
“Holy
shit” he muttered, slamming the breaks on
He jumped from
the seat, slamming the door heavily behind him, as he ran up to
the figure covered in blood. He looked around, but the guy
was long gone.
“Miss”
he spoke into her ear, but he knew she wouldn’t answer
The whole side
of her head was a mattered mess of blood and hair, her legs were
scarped raw and bleeding, and she wasn’t moving. He
pulled out his cell phone from the car and dialled 911.
