CHAPTER 8 - ….FOR IN THE MORNING, YOU’LL BE WRONG

Jasmine awoke slowly, her head pounding as the sun pierced through the window. Her body ached as she realized she was half off and half on the bed, lying awkwardly sprawled across it. She slipped off the bed, looking down she noticed also she was barely clothed. She rubbed her temples slowly trying her best to piece together last night. She remembered the barbeque, the drinking games she was playing with the guys – the stench of alcohol still present in her thick hair, she remembered parts of the drive home, then after that, not a lot but flashes of vague memories. A thought peeked across her head as she stumbled around looking for her clothes.

“God no” she cried hoping her suspicion about AJ was wrong

She practically fell into the bathroom to the side of the room. She turned the tap on and splashed her face with the cold water. Stepping back she wiped her face with a hand towel then starred at herself blankly. Parts of last night she remembered, slowly her mind piecing together something. She knew this much – she’d drunken far too much, she’d removed her bra sometime during the night, she’d flung her dress across the room, that or someone else had, and she woke up clueless and half naked. This had happened before, once when she was 16, but she wasn’t drunk she was just semi-comatose but the similarities were too close for comfort, the thought of a reoccurrence of her young memory perhaps coming back to haunt her.

“You idiot” she hissed angrily at herself as she stormed out of the room.

“Morning, or should I say Afternoon” AJ smiled as he walked through the entrance of the house, catching a glimpse of Jasmine
“You asshole” she spat running down the stairs, her head still pounding
“Great, what did I do?”
“You were born you pig” she hissed, practically spitting in his face
“Look I don’t know what the hell your problem is Jasmine, but you know you probably shouldn’t talk to people who try to help you like that”
“Help me? Fucking help me? Whatever McLean, you’re fucked up if you think what you did HELP me”
“God what is you’re problem?” he questioned grabbing her arm as she flung it around
Her reactions were hurried as her left hand spun around and slapped him hard against the side of his face.
“I trusted you McLean, and you fucking used me you piece of shit, I know we had sex last night, you took advantage of me like every other stupid male on the face of this planet a good for nothing asshole” she announced strongly before running out the front door and to her car that she had left park at his house before the barbeque.

“Okay you can replace your top now Alicia” the female doctor smiled gently
Alicia did up the buttons on the front of the top she was wearing, and sat silently on the uncomfortable bed that stood in the corner of the posh doctors exam room.

“There definitely is a lump there” the doctor spoke, her voice soft and kind
Alicia gulped hard.
“But that doesn’t mean it’s a cancer for sure, it could be anything, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t treat it with consideration and care. I suggest that we take some blood tests and see what we can uncover that way”
“And if it is cancer?”
“We can only hope that if it is, you came soon enough for us to be able to destroy it before it does too much harm. Now if you could just go across to the MedLab we’ll get these tests underway” the doctor continued scribbling away on a piece of paper
She handed the paper to Alicia.
“It’s okay Alicia, its not the end of the world” the doctor announced as she opened the door for Alicia
Yeah right, what would you know? Do you have the same problem? Alicia’s head announced as she thanked the doctor and walked away.

It was nearly one in the afternoon and Leigh Anne hadn’t risen yet. Brian had been to check on her a couple of times, just to make sure she was okay – he was used to doing that now, it had become almost like second nature to him – as always she was sleeping it off. It was usually like that, she would drink, get angry, yell, the occasional screaming fit, then she’d fall asleep sometimes on the couch, or around the house, he’d carry her up to bed – she never was very heavy – he’d watch her sleep for a while, before he’d retire to the spare bedroom. He’d wake up, check on her, then carry on silently doing things around the house until she woke up most times in a happy mood, she’d tell him she loved him, they’d talk, she’d apologize for hurting him, then sometimes they would make love – that was usually how it happened, and this morning, Brian expected no different.

Leigh Anne starred up at the ceiling, her mind a bit of a blur.
Nothing New she laughed to herself
She wasn’t 100 percent positive, but she vaguely remembered coming home. She’d had an argument with Brian but why? She rubbed her temples slowly, searching for the reason, slowly it came back to her;
“I saw the way you looked at her” Leigh Anne announced slamming the door behind Brian
“Looked at who?” Brian inquired, sighing a little
“That little one, god what’s her name, the one with the funny accent and the skinny little waist, shit what’s her name?”
“You mean Tara?” Brian muttered
“Yeah, that little tramp, I’ve seen the way you look at her. So tell me, do you want her? Huh? Am I not good enough for you anymore?” she inquired leaning in so close, Brian could smell the alcohol on her breath
“I'm not going to have this argument with you Leigh” Brian sighed making his way up the first steps
“No of course you don’t” she screamed pounding her bag hard against his back
The force made him flinch a little.
“Leigh don’t do this” Brian pleaded
“Just tell me Brian, are you trading me in for a younger model? Cause I’ll fucking take you to the cleaners, you asshole, do you hear me shit head” she screamed as he carried on up the stairs
She didn’t remember much after that, expect screaming at him as he walked down the corridor, then going into the lounge. She must have crashed in there. She yawned again, pulling herself out of the covers of the bed and sitting upright. Sometimes what she said made sense, sometimes it didn’t, but last night was an occasion where it did matter. She always pretended not to notice the screaming, the fits, the anger she had, but deep down she knew she possessed it all. Brian was her ticket, her ticket to a lot of things, she loved him once – or at least she thought she did, as time grew however he became more of an asset, that’s what the marriage was, and asset, it got her credibility, movie rolls, her picture in the magazines, people knew who she was – just the way she liked it, not to mention because of Brian’s investments over the years, they would be sitting comfortably in this life she was accustomed to for a long time to come – and she was determined to keep it that way – which inevitably meant, keeping Brian where he was – right by her side.

She wandered down stairs after dressing and sulked into the kitchen. Brian was out on the decking, sitting in the sun scribbling away on a notebook, which contained song lyrics, and an assortment of other things that were always dear to Brian’s heart.

“Morning” she said walking out onto the decking
“Hey” Brian said softly, as he turned around to face her “good sleep?”
“It was, and an even better thing to wake up to” she purred wrapping her arms around him
“I'm sorry for yelling at you last night Brian, I’d lost my head I guess, I hope you can forgive me” she whispered kissing the side of his neck the way he liked
“It was nothing baby” he smiled softly as she walked around opposite him, sitting down on one of the other chairs out there.
“Brian, I’ve been thinking” she started
“About?”
“About us”
“And?”
“I’ve decided that its time for us to move onward and upward”
Brian looked on in question, not sure where this was heading.
“Which means?” he inquired
“I want to have children” she smiled sweetly, placing her hand on his thigh
“Children? But you said your career came first”
“That was some time ago, and I’ve changed my mind” she winked “I want little Brian’s running around the backyard, I want to have your children” she added

Brian looked at her oddly, this was one of his dreams in life – to have children, but not long after they had gotten married she informed him that she had no time for them, that her career was the most important thing, and now she was saying that didn’t matter that she had “changed her mind” something just seemed wrong with that.
“Brian? You’re too quite, what’s wrong?” she inquired snapping him out of his thought
BUT having kids was something he always wanted…..and maybe she wanted them too…..maybe.
“You don’t know how happy that makes me to hear you say that?” she smiled

Leigh Anne smiled victoriously – part one of the plan to keep Brian was in action, and the poor fool fell for it, lock, stock and barrel.
