Chapter Five: We Meet Again

~ THE NEXT DAY ~

Abby awoke with a shook as the thoughts of 2 years ago plagued her mind, she screamed, but no sound came from her mouth.  Sweat poured from her body, as she tried to regain her composure.  The dreams were worse now, like she remembered more.

Wrapping the dressing gown around her she pulled herself up ad out of the bed.  Her bare feet slid along the floor as she wandered out of the bedroom.  As she walked into the lounge, she noticed something on the floor in front of the door.  She walked over to it, and picked the pain white envelope up into her hands.  Studding it quizzically, she flipped it over and lifted the flap.  From out of it she pulled a neatly folded letter.

Dear Abby

Too long this has gone on, you know what it is you have to do………people need to pay, people need to die

That was it, no signature, no name, nothing, just that one sentence – that meant a whole lot more to Abby.  She looked inside the envelope again and pulled out a one way ticket to Florida.  She swallowed hard – it was time.

~ AT THE SAME TIME ~

Charisma waited for the sound of the pounding water to start.  The signal was given as she quickly ran into the study.  Maybe the last time she’d missed something.  She ran hurriedly over the stacks of papers on the desk, scanning each one for anything that looked vaguely familiar.  She found nothing.  The file cabinet would be her next target, she opened the top draw first, each section was labeled, and nothing again seemed to be of interest.

“Shit Nick, where is it?” she muttered to herself

By chance her fingers reached across the files, up to the top, it was there her fingers touched something that felt a lot like hidden papers.  With ease she pulled it out of its hiding place, and laid it on the top of the cabinet.

It was a plain brown folder, nothing written on the front, nothing stating what the contents were.  Charisma opened it with glee - this had to be it.  As she peeled back the cover she was met with an array of papers, notes, photos, letters.

A smile grew across her face – she’d found it.  Picking up paper after paper she scanned them quickly, with each one her smile grew.  There were hand written notes for Nick, names, dates, times, reasons, none of it made too much sense.

“The poor dope” she smirked.

The sound of the water stopped abruptly, and without hesitance Charisma returned the folder and made her way quickly out to the lounge.

 ~ THE NEXT DAY ~

Abby stepped off the bus that had carried her up from Miami.  She adjusted her bag on her back and looked around the once familiar city.  There wasn’t a lot she remembered, it was so, so long ago.  Her bare eyes squinted in the deep sun, shielding her eyes with her hand she walked across the street, and began her quest.

~ AT THE SAME TIME ~

Charisma starred annoyingly at the dress her assistant held in front of her.

“God Amy, the world is going to be tuning into the Grammy’s and you’re holding THIS in front of me?” she snarled as she puffed on a cigarette

“It’s Gucci” Amy sighed in annoyance, it was the 5th dress she’d slaved to get hold over. Most people hadn’t even heard of Charisma and they weren’t about to lend her their most expensive dresses.

“I want Vérsacé” Charisma announced

“For god sakes, most people haven’t heard of you, they aren’t going to shell out their best for you over Britney Spears you know” Amy shot back

“Oh they will know me honey, soon enough” she smirked waving her elegant hand around “Gucci will do” she finally sighed

“Char, you in here?” Nick questioned poking his head in the door

“What can I do for you baby?” she smiled, walking up to him

“Are you sure you want to go to?” Nick questioned, his face weaving a look of worry

“Of course, I'm going to support you” she spoke sweetly

“It’s just – “Nick began, he hated the spotlight still, he was sure he always would

“Nick, I want to go” Charisma smiled, running a perfectly manicured hand down the side of his face

“Alright whatever you want” Nick half smiled as he kissed the side of her cheek.

~ THAT NIGHT ~

Camera’s flashed all around capturing star after star as they made the walk across the red carpet to the awaiting fanfare of the 2001 Grammy’s.

Charisma took the breathe of a lifetime, this was it, this was her chance, she would take it now, with both hands, it was hers.  She could almost taste it, and with Nick by her side, nothing, and no one could stand in the way.

~ AT THE SAME TIME ~

Abby threw the contents of the safety deposit box in front of her.  She’d been instructed to go there, everything in it was for her use.  She fingered through the contents, there was a book filled with notes and scribbles, dates and places, though she’d never seen it before, for some reason it all made sense to her.  There was a plain white envelope full of money, there would be at least 5,000 all in 50 and 20 dollar notes.

“Small easy bills” Abby smiled to herself

She switched on the TV in front of her, and instantly a vision of glamour and glitz came onto the screen, she watched half heartedly before she heard the words;

“Here comes Nick Carter and his new squeeze, up and coming star Charisma”

Abby choked on the words as she starred at the familiar made-up face.

“So Cassy, we meet again” she snapped, a familiar feeling encasing her entire body, one of pure hate.
