Chapter Seven: Calling The Bluff

Charisma placed the folded letter easily into the envelope, she wet the seal and closed it up, smiling proudly to herself as she dropped it into her bag.  She gathered her coat and sunglasses, she was to go to the recording studio in the morning, and to Nick’s after that.  Stroking her long hair she walked to the front door and pulled it open.

In front of her on the doorstep sat an untouched letter, hand delivered with her name nicely written across the front.  She stepped out onto the door step and looked around about, but no one seemed different or out of the ordinary.  She picked the letter up, looking at it with studied curiosity.  It wasn’t sealed, the flap was simply stuck into the envelope.  She opened it and pulled out a letter and began to read,

BOO!

Two can play at this game Charisma

She dropped the letter in anger, she slammed the door closed and raced down the steps to her car.

The figure watched, smiling, but only slightly, she had her where she wanted her, and now it was her turn, it was like they were playing poker and she would soon enough call Charismas bluff.  She backed away from her hiding place, pulled the scarf around her face and pushed her sunglasses further up onto her face, and hurried away.

~ AN HOUR LATER ~

Abby looked around the city center, people walked in crowded bunches oblivious to the world around them.  She saw the studio across the street and ran across it without a second thought, cars honked as they nearly ran into her, but she paid not attention, her mind focused on only the object in front of her.  she walked in the front door, past the reception to the second door.

“Excuse me, can I help you?” a young brunette receptionist questioned as she stood from her desk

“Jessica, I need to see her” Abby responded in a hurried tone

“Jessica? Last name? I’ll page her for you”

Charisma, ask for Charisma

“I mean Charisma, I need to see her”

The women smiled in recognition of that name.

“I'm sorry, I'm going to have to ask you to leave, Miss Charisma is busy at the moment”

“I'm a friend”

“Aren’t they all.  Look please leave or I’ll have to call security”

“Just get her out here, its important, she’ll know me” Abby voice quickened as she became agitated

“I'm sorry –“

“What’s all the noise out here?” a tall man in a gray suit questioned coming out of one of the offices

“I need to speak to Charisma”

“Do you know her personally?”

“Yes”

“Name”

“Abigail Reid”

“Just a moment”

He disappeared out the second door.

Charisma sat sipping away on a bottle of water as they discussed some song.

“Carry, there’s some girl out there, Abigail Reid, says you know her”

Charisma’s mouth gaped.

“She’s here?”

“You know her”

“Shit” she cursed running from the room

She burst into the reception area but Abby had gone.

“Where did she go?” Charisma snapped at the receptionist

“I dunno, she just left”

“Damn, damn” she scathed under her breath and she stormed back through the doors

Abby patted down the street quickly, looking behind her occasionally, but Jessica hadn’t followed her.  She slowed her pace and blended into the lunchtime crowd.

You must not let her see you, just let her know you’re there

Abby nodded to herself as the voice commanded her.

“Don’t fight it Abby, look at me, I own you, you can’t change that” another voice screamed

“No, no you don’t own me, NO, NO, I repented, I made good, NOOOOO” Abby screamed holding her head down as passerby’s gave her strange looks

It’s okay Abigail, I'm here, I'm okay, we’re okay, she can’t hurt you, I wont let hera calming voice spoke

Abby nodded again, as she ran down the street.

~ LATER THAT NIGHT ~

Charisma wrapped the towel around her as she stepped out of the shower.  She wiped the steam from the mirror on the wall and starred at herself in annoyance.

“Damn you Abby, what the hell are you doing back here?” she scathed as she ran a comb through her wet hair

“You wont win this game Abby, I'm stronger than you, I control you, you cant change that” she grinned, laughing to herself.  She looked in deeper and saw the eyes of her past staring back out, her blood boiled and her eyes narrowed as she starred in hate at the person staring back.

“NO, You’re dead” she hissed slamming her forehead into the mirror shattering it and slicing her head.  She stepped back and looked strangely at the blood on the wall.

“Carry” Nick announced running into the bathroom “What happened?” he gaped looking at the bright trails of deep red blood slithering down her face

“I, I slipped” Charisma spoke, covering her head with her hand,

Nick looked across at the wall, and the shattered, blood covered mirror.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes Nick, I'm sure, I slipped,” she hissed pushing past him.
