Chapter Fifteen: The Time Is Coming

“Something came for you today” Brian smiled as Faith drugged in through the door
“It did?” she replied casually
“Uhuh, it’s on the bed”
Faith removed her coat and hung it on the hook, before slowly making her way up the staircase. She was hardly in the mood for anything right now, her head pounded, she’d been without sleep for what seemed like months, and the signs of stress were beginning to show across her face. Brian followed behind, watching as she slowly took a step at a time.

She pushed the half open door fully open and stopped in her tracks as she looked down at the bag. A soft smile began to show across her tired face as she walked over to the bed.
“I'm sure it’ll look even more beautiful on” Brian spoke softly, as he stood in the doorway
Faith ran her fingers across the plastic covered dress. It was a richly thick ivory color, with an intricate gold embroidered design on the aged corset top. A decorative wave of lace graced the bottom of the A-line, sating skirt. The skirt itself was a layering of satin and silk, which would hang perfectly from the hips, creating an elegant silhouette.
“It’s exactly how I drew it” Faith smiled
This was the first time she’d seen the dress completed. She’d drawn the plan for it months ago, and had been going back in forth for fittings, but there in front of her, lay the dress she’d imagined since she was 16 years old.
“That is if you still want to marry me” Brian sighed, walking up behind her, his strong arms wrapping around her, seemingly protecting her.
She slid around, her body still enveloped in his arms, her eyes now directly staring into his.
“Since the day I met you, I’ve always wanted to marry you Brian, nothing and no one can take that feeling out of me” she replied
“I’ll take that as a yes” he smiled happily

~ AT THE SAME TIME ~

“So what now?” Marie inquired as Giles entered the room where she was sitting.
“You’re free to go” he said solemnly
“Did you find the real culprit?”
“No, the charges were dropped”
“By who?”
“Faith. Frankly I think she’s making a mistake”
“She knows I didn’t do it”
“Didn’t you?”
“No” Marie announced sternly “But I hope you find who did” she added

~ ONE WEEK LATER ~

Catherine typed away the third and final letter, smiling despisingly to herself. The words were brash and straight to the point, the final horse was about to mount and there would be no stopping it.

Everything was going according to plan, and in 4 days she would have the life she knew was destined for her.

~ THE NEXT DAY ~

Faith looked at the hand delivered envelope that sat between other bland white envelopes. The paper was a cream color, with her name and address hand written in black ink on the front. She shrugged as she turned it over and ripped the flap slowly open.

She unfolded the plain white paper, as the typed letter came to form she began to read:

“And I saw, and, look! A pale horse; and the one seated upon it had the name death. And Ha’des was closely following him and authority was given them….to kill with a long sword…..” Revelation 6:8

That’s not the most ideal wedding gift is it?
The time has come, let the will be done. The crimson color of blood will be poured out across the sacred grounds, a silent battlefield will be your home. Lined with wood and silk, dressed in white, and smiling grimly. The sun will not set on that day for you, I’ll will be waiting in the shadows, I will emerge and take my final bow, as you will take your final breath.

Blood will be mine, leave now and live, stay and die……….
The Pale Horse is approaching……..

Faith threw the letter down, her mouth gasping for air.

As the thin white paper floated to the ground, a gloved hand, attached to a figure laughing wickedly, tripped the circuit breaker, shutting off the entire power and casting the house into dense blackness.

Faith heard herself scream as darkness engulfed her, as she threw her back up against the wall. It was later evening, and dark out, Brian was picking his parents up from the airport, she had worked late, and now, she was frightfully alone. Her eyes scoured the darkness in front of her, her heart loudly and rapidly pounding through her chest. Her nails dug painfully into the wall behind her as her entire body shook. She tried to breathe silently, the quiver in her breathing giving away too much. Everything was silent, not a movement, not a whisper, until the door handle jiggled. She watched in horror as the door opened – she hadn’t locked it. She reached for the nearest object blindly. Holding it tightly gripped around her fingers she bit her lip as a figure stepped into the house. With a force she’d never known before she slammed the china vase onto the figure. They yelped in pain and shock before falling to the floor, in that instant the lights returned, showing up the secrets of the dark.

“Oh My god, Brian” Faith stammered as she looked down at the figure sprawled across the floor
His parents stood on the doorstep, complete disbelief written all over their faces. Faith ran past them and down onto the driveway, she jolted her head in all directions searching for life.
“I'm here, god, I'm here now, why don’t you just finish this” she screamed at the top of her voice.

Catherine watched in the bushes, rubbing her gloved hands together in expectation.
“Not yet faith, not yet” she whispered harmfully

~ 5 MINUTES LATER ~

“I'm, so sorry” Faith muttered as her and Brian’s father, help the dizzy recipient into the lounge
“It’s okay, you were scared” Brian replied, clutching at the bleeding wound on his head
“Are you okay?” his mother fussed as she brought in a fresh cloth to cover his head
“I’ll be fine mom” he smiled, thankfully replacing his hand with the cloth she handed him
“I don’t see why someone would do such a horrible thing” she sighed, sitting down on one of the arm chairs
“Because they’re trying to scare us” Brian responded, his face etching with the pain he felt as Faith cleaned the cut
“Maybe you should postpone the wedding” his father, Harold, offered
“No, dad, we’re not letting this person win, are we?” Brian replied patting Faith’s leg
“Maybe Harold’s right, maybe we should postpone it” Faith whispered, unsure of the words coming from her mouth
Brian turned his head to face her, and removed her hand from his forehead.
“Faith if we let them win, they’ll never leave us alone” he spoke softly, his eyes glistening with fresh tears
Faith remained silent she’d taken the letter she’d received and banished it into her pocket earlier, Brian didn’t know about it, and looking at his face now, perhaps it would be better if it stayed that way – or so Faith thought.
“You’re right” she smiled softly, dabbing a spot of blood from his forehead
