Chapter 6
Kevin Richardson's Side
I sat asleep in a chair in the conference room, with a magazine over my head. I was suddenly shaken awake.
"Yo, Kev! Wake up man," AJ said.
I rubbed my eyes and sat up slightly confused. AJ sat beside me and let out a sigh.
"What's been up with you these days?" he began.
"What do you mean?"
"You've been so detached, you know? Like you hardly care about the Backstreet Boys anymore. What's up with that?"
"Hey, I care about you guys and all… but I don't know man… I don't think I feel happy with it anymore."
"You're not happy?" AJ said, confused and shocked. He raised his eyebrows and sat back on his chair.
"Nah, I don't believe that man… is that Mallory getting to you?"
"Her?"
"Yeah, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. She's a pain in the arse bro. I thought you got rid of her."
"I did! She just had nowhere to go… I'm being the good Samaritan here."
"She's an heiress Kev. She must have somewhere to go. You really buy all that crap? Trust me, Kev. She's got something else up her sleeve."
I thought for a while. Maybe he was right. I hadn't been paying much attention to her lately.
"Oh, by the way, how's Remi going?"
The thought of that brought a smile to my face.
"She's cool. Different. I'm getting a lot of positive feedback about her."
"That's cool, man."
He got up from his chair.
"Alrighty, I gots to go. See ya."
"See ya."

Mallory Fontaine's Side
Jeez, there's got to be some dirt to dig up on this girl! I thought angrily as I pushed through the pile of papers on Kevin's desk. I wormed through everything that had her name on it. Nothing substantial, only business.
Business that's none of your business.
I furiously wiped away a tear that was coursing down my face. Damn her! What was her problem? Why couldn't she leave him alone? He's mine, damn it!
I slammed my fists down on the desk with a frustrated scream, abandoning my futile search.
I looked around the room, hoping that something would drop out of the sky.
"Nothing gives. I'll just have to go straight to the source."
I smiled as I saw that Kevin had left his schedule behind.
"Oh, shoot. Sugar's left his schedule behind."
I scanned the details with my eyes and wrote down the time of his next interview with Remi.
"Couldn't hurt if I just ran over to give it to him."
~3 hours later - at the studio~
He looked so sexy trying to dance. I could tell he was trying; it just wasn't working too well. He looked distracted. Probably thinking about that little mud blooded nigger. She would seriously pay for this.
I had been staring through the window at the dance practice going on inside, when suddenly the music switched off. All of them were looking at me. I slunk back, but Kevin came over and impatiently opened the door.
"What do you want, Mallory?"
I opened my mouth to speak, slightly dazed by his aggressiveness. I fumbled in my shoulder bag and brought out the schedule.
"I found this… in the living room… I thought you might want it."
He looked down at the paper with a furrowed brow. Then his face softened.
"Thanks. I was looking for it."
He gave me half of a smile that sent my heart soaring. I grinned, until the door slammed in my face. I heard a click that meant I was locked out. Red-lighted anger burned my cheeks, and I feverishly turned on my heel and left. I stared at my watch.
3:30, half an hour to go. Knowing Kevin, he would have told her to come fifteen minutes earlier. I stormed around the hallways, until I eventually bumped into someone.
"Oh, I'm oh so sorry…"
It was Delmar, that disgusting piece of shite. Complete riff-raff. Mother would never approve of him.
"Oh, it's you, Eduardo."
"And you, Miss Hick. Congrats on getting out of re-hab."
I sniffed and pushed my nose up into the air. I looked beyond his shoulder and there she was.
"Remi!"
She raised her eyebrows, and looked absolutely blank.
"Don't you know, it's me!"
Again a blank stare. I blushed embarrassedly, and held out my hand for her to shake.
"I guess you don't really recall who I am. I'm Mallory Fontaine. Kevin's fiancée."
Remi smiled weakly.
"I know who you are," she said, "I just don't have time to be talking to Kevin's psycho ex."
I tried to keep myself cool. I forced my lips to smile over my gritted teeth.
"Oh, is that what you think? No matter, we should really talk sometime. I'd like to get to know you." I laughed a bit.
She gave a sarcastic chuckle.
"It's alright thanks. Well, I have an appointment in a few minutes, so would you mind getting out of the way?" she said.
"Yes, besides, I'm sure Kevin is missing his little shadow," Delmar said.
The two of them swept past me in identical black coats.
"Funny."
Two middle fingers waved in front of my face.

Kevin Richardson's Side
I walked through the door of the house aching for some rest and relaxation. After taking off my jacket, I heard clanging and banging in the kitchen. Something was burning.
Oh, no she's not trying to cook is she?
I ran into the kitchen in a hurry.
Mallory was boiling water in a pot, sobbing over it and slamming a pot spoon into the counter. She looked half crazy. There was steam billowing from the pot and if she didn't turn down the heat soon, scalding water would splash all over her.
I pulled her away from the mess, and got a pot spoon in the head for it.
"Mallory? What has gotten into you?"
She just continued sobbing hysterically as if her world was falling to pieces. She struggled against my firm grip.
"These are my emotions… and NO ONE WILL EVER UNDERSTAND IT…"
"Mallory! Whatever it is… it's okay now…"
"Kevin?" she said, as if she now recognised that I was there. Her eyes searched my face frantically.
"Kevin…do you love me?"
I was taken aback by this question, which she knew the answer to already. However, she wasn't in her right state of mind.
"I care for you… I guess."
I was her caretaker in a sense.
"Caring isn't enough…"
Suddenly she snapped. She seemed a lot more focused. And suddenly she looked mortified.
"Oh, I'm sorry Kevin, look at the mess I've made!"
She busied herself with clearing up the mess while I stared disbelievingly.
Damn, she's more cracked than I thought.
