CHAPTER 12 - SECRETS LEFT UNTOLD - PART 3

I wish that I could tell you
I wish that I could show you
All the things inside

I wish that I could let go
I wish that you could know
What I hide

Nick tossed and turned in his sleep, as Bianca lay fast asleep beside him. His eyes slammed open as he was greeted with thick darkness. Searching through the dark room with his eyes he barely made out the shape of the wooden desk that sat in the corner of Bianca’s room, with her stereo, CD’s and laptop. The chair with his jacket draped across it sat just beside it – inside the leather jacket lay something he’d bought on impulse, something he knew she’d like – yet something he was afraid to give her.

~ EARLIER THAT DAY ~

Nick had wandered through the department store, his mop of just washed blond hair sat hidden under the baseball cap he was wearing, his striking blue eyes masked behind a pair of Armani glasses, the ones Bianca had insisted him to by – he remembered with a smile the way she pouted at him to buy them. His hands were delved deep into the pockets of his tailored leather jacket, his eyes shooting around mysteriously, afraid of who might see him standing there – in front of the ring cabinet, staring down at the assortment of rings.
“Can I help you Sir?” an older man with a receding hairline inquired
“Uh, yeah, can I look at that one” Nick questioned pointing down at the glass to a beautiful golden ring
The man smiled as he unlocked the case and pulled out the one Nick had been staring at.
“This is a beauty, 14 carat gold, with a outset diamond, and a set of 6 inset ones. For someone in particular?” he said as he placed the ring in its velvet box in front of Nick.
Nick nodded slowly as he starred down, semi scared of the ring and all it entailed. He picked it up, studding it closely through his glasses. Its shine, noticed even through them. He tried to imagine the dainty ring on her finger, his thoughts quickly flooded with visions of children and anniversaries and of course what the tabloids would read.
Its what she wants Nick, she wants to be married, and you love her, don’t you? He questioned
With every ounce of me he continued, answering his own question

“I’ll take it” Nick announced placing it back in its velvet box
“Would you like to set up a payment plan?” the older man inquired
“I don’t think so, I can pay for it straight off” Nick replied smiling casually, looking for his wallet in his jean pocket
“You do realize this ring is worth ten thousand dollars”
“Yeah. You take American Express Gold? Or I can go over to the bank and get the cash” Nick continued , smirking softly
“Ah no, we take American Express” he replied taking the gold card from Nicks hand

~ PRESENT TIME ~

That ring still in its velvet case sat lifeless in his jacket pocket. He jolted out of the bed, his pulse racing.

“Now or never” he exclaimed stumbling through the dark to the desk

He grabbed his jacket and fumbled out of the room. Searching through the kitchen draws he found the candles Bianca had put away earlier. Taking them along with some matches into his hand he headed out onto the porch. He placed the candles around the decking, then systematically lit them all, the glowing light of the fire illuminating majestically over the powerful full moon. He plowed his legs into a pair of khaki pants and threw on a shirt he’d grabbed with his jacket.

He raced back inside, took a breath and walked back into the darkness of Bianca’s room. He slid across to her side of the bed and tapped her quietly.
“Bianca” he whispered trying to coax her from her sleep “Bianca” he continued, a bit louder
“What?” Bianca murmured barely opening her eyes
“I need you to come with me” Nick pleaded
“Why?”
“Please, just follow me” he added practically pulling her out of the bed
“Fine” she huffed straightening the slip she had on
They walked out into the passage, where Nick stopped and covered her eyes.
“This better be good Carter’ she sighed as he walked behind her, leading her.

The cold night air hit her bare shoulders as she shuddered slightly at its touch.
“We’re on the deck?” she questioned wrapping her arms around her
“Uh huh” Nick said, baking away from her as he removed his hands from her eyes
Bianca looked around the decking, which was littered in candles. The sound of crashing waves were held below them as the moon shone down glistening onto the water.
“Nick what’s this?” she smiled looking around
“For you” he smiled back
“God, it’s like one in the morning, was there a point to this?” she laughed “Cause you know if you wanna get laid you really just need to ask” she giggled
“Just sit down” Nick instructed pulling a chair away for her
“Okay” she mumbled sitting down on the chair.
He sat down on another chair behind her, and took her hand into his.
“I love you” he whispered leaning down to kiss her hand
“Duh I know that” she winked
“Bianca, I’ve never really been very good with words and sometimes its hard for me to express how I feel, and it may seem sometimes that I lack emotion, but I do really love you, you know that don’t you?”
Bianca nodded slowly, her mind wondering where this was leading.
A smile appeared on Nicks face “You mean the world to me Bianca, you’re my life blood, you’re everything, and in you I see everything I want in my life. But there is one thing missing”
“There is?”
Nick slid off the chair as he took a deep breath, contemplating his next words.
“The commitment” he announced pulling the ring from his pants pocket
He opened the box as Bianca looked down in utter shock.
“Bianca Katelin Taylor, would you marry me?” Nick smiled his hair flopping slightly over his face, the blueness in his eyes peeking through the light of the candles.
Bianca was lost for words as she starred down at the beautiful ring before her.
“Yes” she cried leaning down to hug him tightly “Oh my god yes” she added as he held her in his arms determined to never let her go – no matter what the cost. He would do anything for her, even bounding into something he wasn’t 100% sure of – but that was something he would keep hidden away, that would be his little secret, Bianca was happy and that was all that mattered – wasn’t it?
