The Kirklevington Stones

I am thrilled to be commissioned by the Stockton Museum Service to tell stories at the St Martin Parish Fayre to celebrate this cross with Odin on it! My myths will fit in lovely with the excitement of this find from the moment when those who followed the All-father took to following Christianity. Join me there in Kirklevington September 15th. These individual stones piece together to form a cross and clearly show a figure with two birds upon his shoulders; the ravens of thought and memory will be flying out to do their duty and return the great tree form which all life stared when I get stood there among these wonderful stones. Those patterns to me seem Celtic and I will indeed need to consult with experts. Actually I am going to talk to Dr David Petts on early Christianity and of course Jane Stockdale of the Jorvik Viking Centre who has a wide experience of research and design for museums around the world. There has been talk that I will be doing further work around these stones for the Preston Hall Museum telling and creating stories directly from observation of the stones by myself, experts and visitors. In fact your contributions are sought already. Let me know your thoughts on these stones. At this point I will not ask stimulating (and possibly leading) questions, I want your feelings and opinions. These can come from the gut, the heart, the imagination, the nightmare or the text book. I look forward to 'Blogging' your element.

I Crafted This Poem for…

Working really hard
This artist crafts
Starting with wondering
Then finding a part of myself
That knows what it wants
Getting excited, about an idea
A new way of making
Going and studying
Gathering materials
Learning to work safe
Managing to keep clean
Starting to practice
Discovering tricks and skills
Getting used to my company
Being with myself and my working
Building
Shaping
Waiting
Returning
Finishing
Here
“I made this for you”
