Williams Bar again plays fore-runner to tours and events beyond the scope of such a small intimate experience. Adrian Spendlow appears in the petite upstairs show bar of this dinky drinking bistro every Thursday Evening from 8 till 9.30 for the insufficient sum of £3 per person. Crowd in when ever you are in York for a highly entertaining and completely original show. You don't know ghosts till you have cowered in a corner here. You don't know York till you have wondered at his skill. You don't know entertainment till you have shook you head in wonder. There is more. This special evening August 23rd brings us a foretaste of a partnership that is set to hit the festivals, theatres and our screens. Before you have had the chance to see Greeks Versus Vikings (Kick off eight o?clock) or On the Road and Rimbaud: Beat Poetry Night amid the modernists where smokey jazz meets hep word, here is the star of these shows: Gothic Molly. Medieval in her earlier incarnation she has evolved through her ghost walking and Barley Hall filling to a storyteller, poet with a new way of engaging. You should have seen her at midnight at her York Library gig. The perfect special guest star for Adrinskald or Adrian she is destined to over shadow him for tour upon tour. And that is not just by her black parasol.

My career
took a new turn around 18 months ago when people started commissioning me
to create storytelling evenings and events. I still have a 15 year backlog
of performance poetry material and experience, but lately I have been asked
by several respected festivals (Jorvik, York's River festival etc) to tell
specially for their needs or events. It all started with the tours for the
Persula Foundation and working with such acts as David moss of Banoffi around
prisons and libraries, Pete of Suitcase circus and cosmos jugglers. Of course
being writer or rather bard in residence for York Archaeological Trust has
given me quite a kick start. I have just been asked to write for the Dark
Age Relief fund a Viking / Saxon charity to raise funds at the Battle of
Hastings.
I mix myth and anecdote with the collected and the amazing. Using models
and light plus randomness of choice to create story pieces such as Ghosts,
Vikings and Way-back-when, Random runes, Mythic Gods and the being within,
The Essence of Journey, Shadows of an ancient City Shine, The Keelman's
Daughter...
You can ask me to work with children; with adults; with families; you can
ask me to bring what I have or to create specially for your theme. I, of
course, can offer an alternative of performance poetry with fiddle or percussion
accompaniment. Interactive group work is also available with experience
in prisons, elderly care ... you name it
Why not try a cosy preliminary evening or come and visit my weekly event
in York at Williams Bar on Goodramgate.
