Nepal is one of the richest countries in the world in
terms of bio-diversity due to its unique geographical positions and altitude
variation. The elevation of the country ranges from 60 m at sea level to
the highest point on the earth, Mt. Everest at 8850 m, all within a distance
of 150 km resulting into climatic conditions from Sub-tropical to Arctic.
"... Nepal shares
its fauna and flora with other areas. In fact, as a meeting point
of Asian animals and plants, it is so unusual that of all the birds here
only the Spiny Babbler is thought to be endemic to the country. This
means that studies of particular species as well as conservation principles
evolved for Nepalese fauna and flora will be of interest far beyond the
borders of the country....." ELVIS J. STAHR, Former
President, National Audubon Society, Now York, U.S.A
