The Basics

Name: Dane Sorier

Nickname:  Typically she has none although Professor Severitt has many. He usually refers to her as “Minion”, “Drone” or the like but if he’s bored and wants to annoy her will call her “Fluffy”.

Age: 22

Birthplace: Kyneema, a small rural town in Queensland Australia.

Education: She attended Munungba Combined School which taught fifty students from Grades One to Ten and had to complete her secondary education in the next town over. Wasting no time she was then accepted to the University of Queensland studying a four year Wildlife Science course which she completed the year prior. Since graduating she spent her time seeking out permanent employment, subsisting on three part time jobs at various video joints and fast food hells whilst volunteering at the Lone Pine Sanctuary.

Employment: Supposedly impressed by her work, Professor Severitt employed her part time, then full time and eventually asked her to join him as a Junior Keeper to the Colony when the travelled to the Hashimoto Theme Park in Japan. She looks after the Aussie!land section where she cares for the pavilion of small reptiles, a few parrots and the macropod enclosure. Junior Keeper is pretty low and generally involves the boring stuff that has to be done, late shows, tidying up, preparing food, urine and liquid gene collection. Officially, she looks after The Colony, a group of eight koalas, two males and four females chosen for their docile nature when handling.

Place of Residence:  Professor Severitt knowing the Junior Keeper didn’t pay well arranged it so she’s staying at the local university, with free board and free food. It’s one of the cheaper accommodations, a small 3x5 meter room with bed, desk and wardrobe with communal bathrooms. She lives in one of the upstairs rooms, thirty rooms to a floor and three floors to a hall. Because of the cosy conditions she doesn’t have much room for any other commodities except a dodgy TV and her laptop. Her walls are plastered with posters of Australian raptors and parrots and her shelves are filled with old textbooks, a few reading books, mugs and coffee containers. Also there’s paper everywhere, the girl has a paper fetish and refuses to throw any scrap away because you never know when you might use it.

Speaking: The girl’s voice sounds like it’s stuck in sleepy monotones and monosyllables as if she doesn’t have the energy to waste on inflection, or even grammatically complete sentences. This means people have difficulty telling whether she’s sincere and any attempt at wit is lost on the listener. Most of her spoken vocabulary could be summed up as, Yeh, Nah, No, Worries, Mate and Bugger. Her Japanese is atrocious. She can generally understand Japanese but couldn’t form a sensible sentence if her life depended on it and it amounts to is a halting, jerking Yoda impersonation.

Family: Dane thinks she had the mythical perfect childhood. Her mother Kathryn and father Russel had Dane and her brother Dennis when they were in their late thirties. It was a stable loving relationship on a hobby farm. Kathryn was a stay at home mother until Dennis, a year younger then Dane, left for primary school and even then was close to her children as the school’s teacher’s aide. Her father worked dealing agricultural equipment such as irrigation and tractors.

Currently her father has retired and they are touring Australia in a fitted out bus, a fad known as the grey nomads by Australian’s in general. Dennis, now twenty one has also left home and is living in Mt Isa as a plumber’s apprentice and the two have always shared a close relationship.

Senshi Alias: Sailor Aello

Appearance

Hair: Drab, shaggy mass of dusty blue, almost grey. Two thick curtains frame her face while the rest is pulled back into a tail high on her head, falling to her waist.

Eyes: They usually look bored or sleepy, but are a muddy brown.

Complexion: Olive, despite no exotic background. She tans very easily.

Stats: 1.53m tall, 45kgs

Physical Attributes: Dane’s build is short and wiry although if she ever gets fat she’ll probably look like one of the seven dwarves. She think’s her face is too round, her nose too short and has accumulated a large number of scars from an exciting childhood. She has a waxy, wrinkled patch on her shoulder from when she tipped boiling water over herself, three separate and very nasty dog bites on right ankle, left butt cheek and her back, a long red ropy scar along her left calf, and across her back from falling on barbed wire… while escaping a dog. She’s usually dotted with various nicks, bruises and scabs.

Clothing worn: She’s typically seen in her Hashimoto Aussieland garb which comprises of khaki shorts and button up shirt but she usually throws over a coral coloured vest lined with any number of pockets. She’s definitely a pockets girl and anything and everything is stuffed inside her pockets. She doesn’t wear makeup or hair accessories and her casual clothing also seems to consist entirely of vests and shorts, and usually accompanied by the daggy socks and thongs (flipflops, not the bikini) or her uggboots.

Personality

Generally:  As a person, Dane radiates all the depth of shag carpet which is fair enough because it’s pretty accurate. Sleep deprivation has leached much of her personality. Her manner is apathetic and few of her replies require higher brain function, except for her droll sense of humour. Although not lazy, she avoids responsibility like the plague and will selfishly avoid decisions or situations that require empathy or understanding. She once faked the death of a grandmother to avoid consoling a friend about a cheating boyfriend. She’s one of life’s followers, if only so she can pawn off the blame when things inevitably go wrong. They will, you can bet on it, but even then she appears to apply herself to it with the same conversational tone she does with everything else.

She’s an education snob and looks down on people who don’t value their own. She’s very proud of her academic achievements and in a strange twist of fate for one of scientific mind, she’s not afraid to say “I don’t know,” (or at least “Dunno.”) This was probably why she was so accepting of aliens from outer space and girls in skirts saving the world. You have to try proving something’s wrong before you can prove something’s right.

The thing Dane fears most of all is failure. If there’s an important matter and suggestion that she will fail she’d rather avoid it all together. When its compulsory will tackle it in a halfarsed way so that if she does fail she can pretend to herself she would have succeeded if she wanted to try. She is very reluctant to make any kind of decision that affects someone other then herself and if forced to make a choice the result is often too rational for her own good as like most people who work with animals she sees human life as a very cheap commodity.

Finding out she was a senshi was just another of life’s little wrinkles and hardly worth the second tissue. All she knows is that her name was Sailor Aello, she has one attack and she was some sort of senshi, in some sort of system, with some other blokes, on some sort of rainforest planet. Or something. She’s not concerned about it; there are more immediate things to worry about than wangsting over a past life… that blood thirsty chainsaw inspired youma hurtling towards her head for example.

Quirks:  Like many Australians between the age of eighteen and twenty-five, she’s an acceptable alcoholic and believes the Friday Night Blackout is a proud tradition to uphold. She’s not a wild drinker, but she can steadily drink herself into oblivion. She spends much her time crawling from bottle to coffee mug and takes both in near lethal doses. Also she’s a hoarder, which goes in hand in her tightarse-ness. There isn’t a scrap of paper, chewed pencil, old showlace she will throw away because you never know when you will need it and most of it is magnetically drawn to her pockets.

Favourite Foods: Food other people have paid for, and failing that the cheapest option available. She’s a big fan of $2 fish ‘n’ chips. Dane left home at the age of seventeen and knows well the benefits of rice and whatever dusty condiments are lurking at the back of cupboard. She also considers the potato the sovereign of vegetables, so cheap and so versatile. If you did a blood test you’d find an acetic acid content of 40% because she douses everything consumable in vinegar because she likes the tang and it deters others from pinching it when her back is turned.

Least liked Foods: Anything that isn’t free which may address the fact she eats like a sparrow.

Favourite School Subject: In high school she was clearly a biology student and as she went on to university she enjoyed anatomy, physiology and biochemistry subjects. Also ironically she enjoyed reproductive subjects, which is on par with a mechanic who’s never wanted a licence.

Least liked School Subject: As stated she’s tried at every subject she’s undertook, but her maths results have always been dismal and a source of resentment. This carried on to university where she continued to hate biometrics, a subject dealing with population mathematics. She also hated Problem Solving because she often suffered from paralysis by analysis. She’d put off making decisions in favour of ‘acquiring more information’.

Favourite Colour: Brighter colours, sky blues, cherry reds and the like.

Least liked Colour: Dull colours, pastels

Hobbies: Is drinking a hobby? Oh, okay, she likes flying her kite and reading. She also loves any kind of oral tradition even though she has no talent herself. She likes listening to old folktales of the Brothers Grimm variety and anecdotes and poetry composed by people she knows and her secret love is being read to.

Weaknesses: When on her own she has no problem making decisions because she’s rather careless of her own safety but when given leading roles she freezes and quickly attempts to pawn it onto the closest person. She’s even reluctant to offer an opinion so her answers are usually ‘Meh’ so the blame can’t be traced back to her. Unless she’s sure of success she only does a half arsed job.

Key Scenes:

Dane slipped into the off limits area and glanced over her shoulder at the clock above the door. Twelve past seven. Darn she was late! She was still feeling high from detransforming and yet completely exhausted because she hadn’t slept for fifty two hours. Grunting, she slumped onto a bench but no sooner then she had the door flung open to reveal Professor Tribe, shaking his fingers dramatically before jabbing them at her.

“Oh I just spent the last two hours darting before it became to hot for recovery times. My fingers are killing me.” She looked up to see if he was serious and when she saw he was, and she hoisted an eyebrow. “What’s that look, what are you thinking.”

“I’m considering the therapeutic benefits of breaking every bone one by one.”

“That doesn’t sound very therapeutic.”

“I meant for me.”

Key Quotes

“Oh, I’m sorry. I don’t have the amended New Macquarie Dictionary where ‘I have a temper’ has the new synonym, ‘I’m a wanker who doesn’t have to accept consequences of her actions.’”

“Mate, when they say All You Can Eat, it’s an offer, not a challenge.”

“Chill mate, s’all good.”

Relationships

With Her Family: Dane’s family is her world. She’s seen friends come and go but her family has always been behind her. Dane was highly influenced by her father and his work ethic and it was his determination to take this opportunity that made the decision for her. She’s always been very homesick any distance from her parents although it isn’t often shown. Her parents know her better then anyone and her brother better still which was why she told them of her newly found title as a Sailor Senshi. Of course far away on the dusty Australian road they aren’t in any position to change anything but they are definitely there for her when she pours her heart out (or whinges and complains). In fact the reason she feels so safe with them knowing this privileged information is that they are so far away and out of harms way.

With Professor Tribe Severitt: Dane wants to be just like him when she’s older, bitter and in a position of power to abuse it. She greatly admires him whatever happens and would probably tread hot coals if he asked her. However the reason she told him about being a senshi was more out of a need for direction then respect. She often turns to him when her new senshi responsibilities put her in a pickle and more often then not he’s her conscience when she’s too rational. She enjoys their banter but couldn’t have a deep and meaning conversation with him if you put a gun to her head.

With Her Workmates: Dane knows everyone at Hashimoto Amusement Park in passing but can almost never remember their name, thus everyone is just referred to as ‘Ol’mate, you know Ol’mate with the whatsit?’

The head director of Hasimoto Amusement Park is Mr Hogushano whom Dane has little contact except the rather critical letters addressing the staff about how much they are slacking off or if customers are unhappy. She and the other animal keepers resent how he demands things run because like most bosses they don’t actually know the reality and has undeliverable expectations.

There are nine other keepers tending to Aussie!land but they also take care of the baby animal enclosures and the monkey aviary. There are always at least three around the park.

Dane most often works with Ken and Emiko.

Ken is a fellow Australian who looks, talks and acts like an extra from a Ned Kelly film and she turns to him when she is homesick. He’s 49, and used to be a stockmen before he turned to wildlife management specialising in large macropods. Though he knows nothing of her secret life he’s happy to cover for her because of his own mischievous streak. She takes his advice to heart and she loves listening to his stories of chasing wild scrubbers.

Emiko is a Japanese woman of thirty-four, married with an eleven year old daughter and smokes like a 1979 Tirana. Her name suits her well as she likes to snigger at tourists and doesn’t take BS from anyone, least of all Mr Hashimoto which Dane cringes from in case Mr Hashimoto thinks she’s a part of it.

Although not keepers, Dane spends most her time with a pair the runs one of the concession stands, Lexi and Cobey.

Lexi is 19, British and straight out of Highschool. She’s on a working Visa and living with her uncle for the past six years after her parents died in a car accident. She likes Deathmetal, which might tell you a lot about her but not all. With Dane’s droll observations and Lexi’s bitchy sniping the two are an unlikely pair but coupled with the gawky Cobey who is about as stylish as flannel over pink polkadots (although still a par above Dane) the trio make a strange friendship. She is wild, crazy and often pushy. Dane may find her corralled into late night ventures.

Cobey is 21, Japanese but spent his early life in America and currently studying computer engineering at the same university Dane is staying at. He’s tapped into the geek culture and likes to illuminate Dane on the latest strategies of Dungeons and Dragons and debating Startrek. He seems to have only the most tenuous grip on reality and even resents that. His parents are rich but he likes to have his own money to spend.

The Soldier

Name: Sailor Aello

Realm of Influence: Electrical Storms

Personality Changes: As a civilian Dane is listless and gives the impression of slight mental retardation but once transformed into Aello she’s infused with new energy. Her movements are quicker and more decisive. She acts more on instincts and voices her opinion more often… Actually it’s only her personal observations of other people she voices but still it’s an improvement. Also while Dane might have sort a small quiet place out of harms way, Aello feels safe in the open and dislikes being cornered or cramped spaces. She prefers to wait for confrontation rather then hide from it but won’t seek it out.

Fuku:

Signature Colours: Dusty cobalt (RGB 018, 050, 076, Hex 13324E") and Old Copper Brown (RBG 150, 75, 0, Hex #964B00)

Henshin Phrase: None. Until Dane can find her henshin object she can’t change by herself or when she wants (or in most cases when she doesn’t want). The transformations come of their own accord, but will react to personal danger, surges in power (not that she them feels herself) or intense emotion. That last one is only theoretical because ‘intense emotion’ is the last thing you’d expect from Dane.

Challenge:  None, but if her henshin phrase is, “Achoo!” and then her challenge could be considered, “Gawd damnit! Not now!”, or simply, “G’day, howsigoin?”

Henshin Sequence: First Dane feels an itch, and she tries to ignore it. Then it’s a more persistent tickle and still she tries to hold it back. Finally she realises there’s nothing for it and she races for the nearest cover, her face contorting as she tries to hold back the sneeze until finally she can do so no longer. Yaa-ah-ahchoo! She sneezes into her cupped hands and the breath from her mouth becomes a frosty cloud, darkening and brooding with lightning into her palms.

She spreads her arms wide drawing the blooding thunderclouds in their wake, covering her breast and forming the base of her bodice and shorts. Her arms windmill behind her back still drawing the clouds with them, crackling and alighting from within with random bursts. As they follow her up they wind around her arms forming her greaves.

The iron blue clouds fountain above her head in a mushroom before forming a violent thunderhead which veils her hands before pushing in a wheel with spokes of lightning and turning furiously blown by gusting winds. Rain weeps from the clouds, pattering down. The glowing blue droplet splashes against her temple forming wings of her tiara while a second does the same and cascading energies meet in the middle of her forehead. More rain drops fall, splashing seemingly against nothing and running along invisible crevices forming the feathers of her wings.

Her wings flare and her arms still crossed above her head swing down, bringing the storming wheel over her body like a hula hoop. The clouds clasp against her breast, forming her off-the-shoulders sleeves and encircling her waist and spitting lightning to form her skirt and sandals.

Her wings flare again, fanning away the last of the thundercloud to stand against her symbol against a violent stormy background and with the wind tearing her hair and skirt.

Starseed Weapon: Dane’s weapons are the Brontide Blades, which are basically a pair of bulroaras on string, or poi with crescent shaped blades instead of balls. She can either wield them with handles, which allows her to throw them in the air, deliver a few blows before expertly catching them again, or the strings can be directly attached to her greaves which is more dangerous but better when in hand to hand combat as she can’t loose them. As they turn they rumbled like thunder and hum with electricity that is released on contact. Like most things, Dane doesn’t know anything about their origin, and trying to replicate the complex archs she achieves in senshi form only results in black eyes. Like everything else, she has no idea of their origin.

Guide: Although Dane works with a variety of animals on a daily bases none of them have show any articulate qualities as yet.

Attacks: As a solider, Dane only has one special attack, Aello Concussion Lens where she blasts her enemies with a lens of air laced with static.. She can either use it as a single strong blast knocking them flying or as a sustained bubble gradually edging the enemy back as they fight against gale force winds. She can also form them into small little air bullets that but none of these are particularly powerful and annoy the enemy more then anything. Mostly she depends on physical blows with her Brontide Blades, which deliver an electric shock along with a cutting edge upon contact. She is also heavily reliant on other senshi for the finishing blow.

History

“I don’t know, get off my back!” Dane knows nothing aside from the few brief glimpses she had in her dreams before she came to Japan which involved patrolling a lush green aboreal castle, and frankly weren’t very informative. Perhaps more will be revealed in the future but it doesn’t matter one way or the other to the zookeeper.
