Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen Cabuli, known as Tarja Turunen is the quondam singer of the symphonic metal band Nightwish. She's a classical opera singer. After the split with Nightwish she's now consecrating herself to her solo career .

Biography:
* 1977 in Kitee (eastern Finland)
At the age of 15 she starts her education inclassical singing
At the age of 18 she changes to the Sibelius academy in Kuopio where she studies church music
1996 Tuomas Holopainen founds the band project "Nightwish" together with Emppu Vuorinen and invites Tarja to sing for his demo CD. In the first place it's meant to be an “acoustic campfire music thingie“
Soon they realize that Tarja's voice is too powerful for this kind of music. So Tuomas and Emppu decide to switch over to harder music and get back to their "Metal roots". Two more guys join them. Tarja is now the only woman in a men's band and also in a Metal band. For her this genre is completely new territory.
From now on she advances in two careers: Nightwish and at the same time her classical concerts
Nightwish creates a completely new style of music: a kind of bombastic Opera Metal.
Over the years ...Nightwish tour Europe, the USA and Latin America.
...they prduce 5 albums in total
...Nightwish become the most popular Finnish band ever (they get triple platin for the album "Once")
1999 Tarja contributes as a solist to the "Evankeliumi"(Evangelicum), a production of the Finnish National Opera
2001 she leaves Finland to continue her studies in Karlsruhe (Germany).
Together with a couple of friends she starts the two "Noche Escandinava" tours through Argentina and Chile to present the works of Scandinavian and German composers to the people
2002 she marries Marcelo Cabuli from Argentina who becomes her manager
She gives singing lessons in Buenos Aires.
She has numerous guest appearances and sings in side projects, among others with Martin Kesici and the band "Schiller" (both German)
2004 she publishes her first own single"Yhden Enkelin Unelma" (=one angel's dream)
2005 she starts the "Christmas Concert Tour", where she sings Finnish and international Christmas songs. Among others she performs in Berlin and Frankfurt

2005 Tarja is kicked out of Nightwish by the other band members . One of the main reasons is her husband and manager who's attitude reacts against the ideology of Nightwish.
The consecuences are of course media hype etc.
Tarja has become pretty successfull.
You could and can still see her in the media so frecuently like no other female Finnish musician.
She was mostly seen as the front woman of Nightwish, which is a wrong interpretation. She always regarded herself more as a kind of “guest musician“ and interpreter of Tuomas' works.
Her fanbase has grown very fast during th epast years and is now gigantic.
