The Aresti system
was designed by the aerobatic ace José Louis Aresti in 1961, it is a kind of
short hand enabling people to write down an aerobatic manoeuvres in the form of
symbols that is simply and easy to read at a glance. It is a universal language
and is essential.
Each
symbol is given a difficulty ranking called the K-factor, the K-factor is based
on the difficulty involved in performing the figure. The K-factor and how well
the manoeuvre is performed is multiplied to derive the points for the figure
In the early years and still today the Aresti system favours some types of planes. This is because Aresti developed the system and different difficulty values on the performance of the Bücker Jungmeister. And there for people who’s planes weren’t as good in certain areas that the Bücker Jungmeister was good in were disadvantaged.
Bücker Jungmeister
I would propose that if the Aresti system were re-done in terms of difficulty values or (the K-factor), that the FAI took all of the aircraft that compete at an international level and find the average of all of these aircrafts performance factors for eg. Rate of roll per second and then base the new system on those statistics. And further more they should continue to do this as aircraft designs improve so that all is fair.
