PSA GENERAL MEETING
February 17, 2005
- The meeting was called to order by Pat at 8:35am.
Pat welcomed everyone attending and introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Ken Dekleva, the Regional Psychiatrist for the US Embassy.
- Dr. Dekleva gave a very interesting and informative talk on the topic of “Passport to Paradise: Raising Children Overseas”. In his talk, Dr. Dekleva defined “3rd culture kids” and discussed ways to make it easier for kids to adjust to the many changes that they face when their parents tell them it’s time to move again. He suggested several websites and books such as www.expatexpert.com and www.rosenfeld.net. Kathy Bader has a list of local mental healthcare providers in case kids need professional help.
- PSA is currently seeking volunteers to serve on the board for the next school year. Renu Dhawan has been nominated to head the board as the Executive Chairperson, but we have many vacant positions.
- Minutes of the January meeting were read and approved. Melissa will not be serving as secretary next year and we are seeking someone to volunteer to serve as secretary next year.

- A coffee will be held on February 28 at 7pm in the Hall of Peace to discuss block scheduling. Middle school parents are also invited.
- Rebekah will serve as high school rep again next year, but we need a second person to volunteer to be the 2nd rep.

- Elementary School Report:
- Two coffees have been held and one more is planned for Tuesday March 22 at 9am at the British High Commission, bungalow #1.
- A coffee is being planned to discuss school growth and parent concerns.
- For next year’s PSA board we will be seeking someone to volunteer to serve as elementary school rep.
- Board Rep Report:
- The Board of Governors meetings are open to all parents, but so far this year only one parent has attended only one meeting. Parents are always welcome and the meetings are held every 4th Thursday of the month at 5pm.
- The policy review committee of the Board of Governors is examining a policy change to have the school campus open on Sunday. This change would have to be voted on by the full board if it is recommended.
- The budget was approved.
- April 20 is Meet the Candidates night in the Hall of Peace. Parents can come to meet and talk to the candidates running for Board of Governors positions for the next school year.
- A volunteer is needed to serve as next years PSA representative to the Board of Governors. This person will attend all PSA meetings and also attend the Board of Governors monthly meetings to serve as a liaison between the two groups. This is a very important position and helps to keep the channels of communication open between the Governing Board, the administration and the PSA.
