PSA GENERAL MEETING
November 18, 2004
The meeting was called to order by Pat at 8:35 a.m.
- Pat welcomed everyone attending and introduced Dr. Peter Molberg.
- Dr. Molberg talked about Health Updates for School-Aged Children. Dr. Molberg’s mantra is that all drugs are poison, but if used properly they can be helpful. Many routine medical tests are unnecessary for children for many reasons. What is important for children are:
- Up-to-date vaccines
- Optimal amounts of fluoride in drinking water
- Yearly PPD or TB skin test
- Having the stool sample checked if the child has symptoms.
The top 3 leading causes of death in young people in the U.S. are:
- Car accidents
- Homicide
- Suicide
Dr. Molberg answered many questions from parents.
- The parental satisfaction survey will be handed out in December.
- Minutes were read and approved.
- Treasurer’s report:
Rs. 80,000 profit was made from Night Under the Stars.
- High School Report:
- Dr. Mel Levine is coming to AES for a school-wide talk about learning differences.
- The next high school coffee will be held in the Hall of Peace on November 30, at 7:30.
- Middle School Report:
- The last coffee had an attendance of around 20 parents. A follow-up coffee will be held December 7 at 9am in the Hall of Peace.
- The middle school play will be performed Friday night and Saturday at 2pm.
- Elementary School Report:
- A coffee was held last week. Home grade-level coffees may be held in the future in order to try to have more parents attend.
- Room parents are needed.
- The elementary school library may begin having longer hours.
- Newsletter:
Submissions are needed by next Wednesday.
- Webmaster:
The Korean newsletter is now on the website, click on “school news”.
- There will be no PSA general meeting in December.
