PSA GENERAL MEETING
September 16, 2004



The meeting was called to order by Pat at 8:40 a.m.

Announcements:

  1. Pat welcomed everyone attending and thanked Janet and Jack Golden and Wendy Winston for organizing Quiz Night.

  2. Tickets for the fall barbeque on Saturday are on sale for Rs. 150. We need to have a ball park figure to know how much food to prepare.

  3. The U.S. Embassy has requested that two Americans help take part in a political debate on Monday Sept. 27. If anyone is interested, please let Pat know.

  4. Volunteers are needed to help Kavita Dutta organize Night Under the Stars.

  5. The CLO information mela will be held this Saturday, September 18 from 10am-1pm in the Hall of Peace.

  6. The next PSA General Meeting will be held on Thursday, October 14 at 8:30am in the boardroom. The guest speaker will be regional psychiatrist for the U.S. Embassy Dr. Kenneth Dekleva. He will be speaking to us on “Culture Shock” and how to deal with some of the frustrations of living in another country.

  7. Beth Miller-Manchester explained some of the services provided by relocation companies to help newcomers integrate into life here in India. Contact Beth if you would like more information.

Guest Speaker:
    Sonia Philip was introduced by Rebekah Cessna and gave us an excellent presentation on learning differences in children. Sonia had actually moved to the U.S. to find appropriate education for her son after he was found to have some learning difficulties. She became educated herself and is bringing her knowledge back to India where she is helping Indian children with learning differences get the type of education that they need to succeed in school.
The minutes of the September general meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was read.

School Reports:

    High School Report:

      The first high school coffee will be hosted by the high school and held in the Hall of Peace on Monday September 27 at 7p.m. The topic will be the mini courses.

      • The 10th grade parent network coffee was held with 25 parents in attendance. The Delhi club scene was discussed.
      • The 11th grade parent network coffee will be held at Gail Walker’s home on Wednesday, September 22.
      • The 9th grade parent network coffee will be hosted by Leia Santos and the date will be announced.
      • No date yet on the 12th grade parent network coffee as 12th grade parents have had several other meetings already this month.
      • Baby/child pictures of seniors should be given to Mr. Wallbridge as soon as possible. This does not have to be kept secret from your senior child, they just don’t want to photos to be shown around school before the slide show at the end of the year. Mr. Wallbridge is requesting 4-6 photos of your child at different ages. He will return the photos within a few days after they are scanned.

    Middle School Report:

      There will be no October coffee due to mini course. The next middle school coffee will be held November 2.


    Elementary School Report:

      The elementary school coffee had a good turnout. The survey was given to parents and is due back this week.
School Board Report:

    No report, Troy is traveling.
Events Report:

  • The fall barbeque is under control.

  • Night Under the Stars is headed up by Kavita Dutta. She has many volunteers working on this event and if you would also like to help contact Maitreyi or Kavita.

Curriculum council report:

    No report
Webmaster:

    Angela in updating information on the web page and still needs updates from bowling, golf and football. If you are involved in any of these activities please contact Angela.
Old and New Business:

  • The committee to revise and clarify the PSA by-laws will meet later in the year.

  • The next PSA general meeting will be held in the boardroom at 8:30 on Thursday October 14.
