A year. It had been one year since he had been placed in this house, and it had not been easy. Back in the fifth house they didn't make a big deal about the four other houses. But here it was different. The master knew what he wanted, and you worked like a dog to meet the expectations. His parents always told him how lucky he was to be an Aetharyn, but he hated it and wanted to leave. Making life miserable for those around him Kaliden isn't one of the most favored of the family.
The third house made things somewhat more bearable, and Kaliden had managed to charm a young elven dancer into marrying him. This was, in part, why the Aetharyns had accepted him at all. Then again, that too had turned sour. He knew that his daughter wasn't really his own, but beyond the embarassment of the matter he really didn't care. He would have hated Thorn anyway, this just gave him all the more reason. He had his affairs, so what if she had hers? It didn't matter, though he would still beat her for it on occasion. As well as for having a daughter, rather than a son. |
