ERICK   A.  TROFIMOFF (ИРЕК A. ТРОФИМОВ)

Hi , Welcome to my Artist Dossier page.  I must begin with some introduction about my family and my national origin.

My last name is Russian originally from the coast of the Azov Sea, although my grandfather Eng. Pavel I. Trofimoff  was originally from Penza, The city in which grew up the famous Art entrepreneur Sergei Diaghilev on the Volga Federal District.  He met the Diaghilev family during his early years. He became a Topographer from the Penza State Technical University & Navy officer from the Alexander Academy in Vladivostok (Russia’s Far East).  My Great Grandfather ILia A. Trofimoff , ethnically Cossack, was cavalry officer in Moscow and Military Engineer in St Petersburg as some of his ancestors since the XVIII century when the Tsarina Catherine II hired them to be her personal guards.

I grew up in a very international cultural environment; my extended family belong to other six different nationalities in East, Central, and Mediterranean Europe, and Latin America, even one of my aunts and an Uncle from my father’s side were born in Tokyo, Japan during the exile of my grandparents in that country :

v     My mother is Columbian born from European Ancestry; she studied Stock market & finances in the US, She was a bank manager in South America. She migrated from South America to the United States in 1950, from there to Europe in 1956 and finally when she married my father she moved to Mexico.

v     My Father is Russian born but he grew abroad since his parents exiled in Japan, Egypt & France due to the Civil War (1917-19). He earned a Bachelors degree in Chemical Eng. & he worked many years for multinational companies around the world, primarily in the cosmetics industry.  The French Artist Pierre Trofimoff (1925-1996) was one of his cousins and the German Ballerina Natasha Trofimova, star of the The Bayerische Staatsballett in the 1950-60’s, was his relative.

v     During the 1930’s my Russian Grand father was with other Russian Engineer (Vladimir Olhovsky), working for Royal Dutch & British Petroleum companies in Tehuantepec & Tabasco, the discoverers of the petroleum wealth of the Gulf of Mexico. That was the beginning of the close relationship of my family with Mexico.

v     My other Grandfather, half Columbian , half German,  He was Lieutenant- Colonel for the Columbian Army, retired since the secession war of Panama in which he took part defending the Columbian rights over the inter-oceanic Canal against the revolution promoted by  Theodore Roosevelt ; he became later Construction entrepreneur & Antique dealer and Collector in the  Cauca’s Valley region. His mother was an immigrant arrived to Cartagena de Indias at 1880’s, from Berlin, Brandenburg, a member of a family of goldsmiths & porcelain artisans.

v     One of my Grandmothers was half Estonian (from Tallin, Capital of the Baltic country) & half Russian (from St Petersburg, the old imperial Russian Capital, and from the Tura River valley in the Tobolsk guberniya (now Tyumen Oblast), the motherland of the famous Grigori Rasputin). I am related through her with the famous Biologist Dr Dimitri Sokoloff, researcher & professor that worked for the IPN in Mexico & the University of Chicago and with Sonia A.Solovieva that was Piano Master of the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico  & the University of Chicago.

v     My other Grand mother was half Spanish (from la Rioja, the motherland of the Spanish language) & half Columbian (with some Italian ancestry), from Buga the Holy city of Columbia (The sanctuary of the Christ of Miracles site). Her family was related with the famous Spanish author Francisco de Roxas of the Gold age of the Spanish Literature (S.XVII), and two of their relatives in the XX century are the Columbian Tango & Bolero Singer-Composer Nano Molina, the professional Tennis player Ivan Molina & the Ballet dancer Carlos Molina of the American Ballet & the Boston Ballet.
