RYAN CHARMAN After a goalless sub appearance in the Apr-Sep 00 season, he hit six goals in the first three games of the following season, including a hat-trick in the win over GAP. Scored 20 goals in 17 games overall, and could have had more but for two unfortunate penalty misses. Unsurprising winner of the Oct 00-May 01 Player of the Season award. |
SAM CHARMAN (Shirt Number: 8) The midfield dynamo , aka 'Mr.Box-to-box', scored AFC Maidstone's first ever goal in a 10-3 defeat. A regular AFC player, he missed the team's first victory with an ankle injury that kept him out for three matches. A reliable player with an eye for goal and is a good passer of the ball. |
BEN HOWARTH (4) A solid defender who became the sixth permanent member of The Mount. Is adapting well to 5-a-side and is strong in the tackle. |
ALEX JACOBS (9) Overlooked when AFC Maidstone needed players, he joined GAP and was a regular in their team, netting two goals during the season. The team's sole left footer. Was the Mount's first ever goalscorer, scoring inside the first minute of his debut with a right-foot shot. |
ROBERT MOODY (7) New to the 5-a-side scene, the target man shows some neat touches and link-up play. 'The Gentle Giant' has a never-say-attitude and is confident at both ends of the pitch. 'Modders' did the essential job of printing the club badges & names and numbers on the backs of the shirts, doing a ruddy good job, although did manage to burn Spencer's shirt and blow up his iron in the process. |
MICHAEL PILCHER (5) Team founder, manager, treasurer, kit purchaser and all-round instigator. Playing-wise his contribution has been indifferent, and is perfectly content to sit back in defence. Failed to score in 39 competitive games at LLC and a further dozen or so at Mote Park, although did score in a Mote Park friendly. |
JAMES ROSE A left-sided player and friend of Pilch's sister who joined Tantamount as they looked to bolster their squad. Solid player who is decent going forward and is full of running. |
ADRIAN COPE With 2 goals in 15 games on pitch in his first season, 'Zico' made the transition to goalkeeper for the 2nd season and was a revelation. Quite easily the tallest player they've had (7ft 2"). |
JAMES SPENCER 'The Cat' took the role of team goalkeeper as no-one else was willing to. Played in fits and starts for AFC as a defender, but did score goal of the season with a fine effort from inside his own half. Off the pitch has personal anecdotes galore, including climbing onto a Hall of Residence roof to steal a flag (click here to read his local paper's article on said adventure). |
JAMES WARD A class act, he finished runner-up in both Player of the Season votes and was the only AFC player to never miss a game. Top scorer in AFC's first season, he played a more defensive role in the second. Went on to join Attwood's AFC at Mote Park. |
ROBIN CLEISHAM Joined in AFC's second season and was a vital player. Never afraid to make a tackle or unleash one from long-range, he scored two of his three goals in a cup game against league leaders The Jaffers. Was a regular for Attwood's team at Mote Park. |
MATTHEW EPPS Was the club's first Player of the Season, which was just reward for his tenacious displays. Wasn't quite so influential the following year as breathing problems stifled him. The club's shortest player was also the only one to score with a header. |

'HONOURABLE MENTION' |
DAVID BOND 'Big Dave' Bond was one of the first members of AFC, owing to his willingness to go in goal. Wasn't too happy about not starting many games out on pitch and left to join GAP. |
JAMES LATUS An old school friend of Pilch who came in for seven games. The king of the backheel, he missed the team's first ever penalty and left to represent Kent at Badminton. |

PAUL BOND, younger brother of David, played five times across both seasons. CHRIS MARTIN (not the one from Coldplay) played thrice in goal and thrice on pitch, scoring once. TOM SARRICK was Epps' college mate and played twice, once in goal in a 9-0 defeat. James' younger brother DAVID SPENCER made one brief sub appearance before going on to score prolifically at Mote Park. OPGS school-pal winger PAUL STEVENS played once. Keeper DAVID WALDRON, an old friend of Latus, played three times, one of these after Latus left. CRAIG WELCH, who scored three times in two games against AFC for GAP, came on as a sub against Pilch's will after D.Bond said he could play. As he was the 8th played used, Pilch got a slap on the wrists for exceeding the 7-player limit. |
