Sohaila S. Shekib


 

 

Ms. Shekib holds a B.S in Civil Engineering and Industrial Structures from Kabul University Polytechnic Institute in Afghanistan graduating in 1980 where she worked briefly and migrated to the USA in 1982.  She is currently the president and founder of Sanie Consulting Group (SCG), LLC since December 2006 providing land development services in the Washington Metro area.  Ms. Shekib has over 25 years of experience in land development in the United States and 1-1/2 years of experience in Afghanistan where she worked in the Construction Unit in the Ministry of Education with focus on schools projects.  She is a Designated Plans Examiner (DPE) in both Prince Williams and Fairfax Counties in Virginia.

 

Prior to establishing her own civil engineering business in land development, Ms. Shekib was the head of the Design Department at EMSI Engineering, Inc. where she provided project management and oversight to all land development projects in commercial, industrial and residential projects from mid-November 2004 to December of 2006.  Earlier on from 1997 to mid November 2004 she was project manager / Team Leader at Bowman Consulting Group, P. C., and at the same time, took on added responsibility from June 2002 to mid-November 2004 as Vice President at Bowman International.  It is during this time when she was instrumental in the high profile Kandahar Valley Feasibility study project in Afghanistan and provided master planning and feasibility studies for the project.  In her early years in the United States 1988 to 1997, she was project manager/Team Leader at VIKA Inc. working on large commercial, industrial and residential projects.  From 1983 to 1988, she was a junior project engineer/designer at Urban Engineering.   Ms. Shekib’s expertise in land development is portrayed in her leadership skills at Bowman International where she provided project management and oversight to high profile projects in commercial and residential categories. 

 

Ms. Shekib is involved in various community activities and has been very active with the Society of Afghan Engineers since 1990. She is also a Member of Engineers and Surveyors Institute (ESI) since 1990.  Ms. Shekib has a son Khalid Shekib who is an attorney with a law firm in Springfield, Virginia.
