Episode 14
**
"Catch me if you can, Bridges." Richard Daniels laughed into the phone. "Thought I was gone, didn't you?" He fidgeted nervously with the phone cord as he waited for Nash's reply.

"I'll get you, Bubba. You wait and see."

"One cop down, the force to go.'' Richard believed Rachel couldn't possibly be alive after what she sustained at the school.

"Not if I have anything to do with it." Richard Daniels hung up the phone and Nash drove off. "Damn him. Nearly getting those kids wasn't bad enough. Apparently he's got something against all of us."

"It's because I helped get rid of him." Joe was now beginning to lament his role in the firing of Daniels from Riley, but he felt he did what he had to do in order to protect his daughter.

''So now he blames all of us?" Nash rolled his eyes in disgust, this was going to be quite a problem.

**
Bill Chamberlain walked into the SIU and looked around for a familiar face. He couldn't find Joe among the officers, so he headed to the first occupied desk he could find. He looked at the nameplate on her desk and began.

"Excuse me, Inspector Bridges. Can you tell me where I can find Inspectors Leek and McCabe?" Cassidy looked up from her desk to find an attractive man with slightly graying, brown hair and deep blue eyes standing before her.

"Inspector McCabe is still out on medical leave and I believe Harvey out to lunch. I can take a message if you'd like?" Cassidy had no idea who this man was or why he'd be looking for Rachel and Harvey.

"Actually, I'd prefer to thank them in person. They rescued my daughter at the Riley School last week.'' He was hoping he'd finally get the chance to meet them, especially Rachel and thank her for what she did.

"Oh. I see. You can leave your name and I'll have her get back to you when she comes in?"

"I'm Bill Chamberlain." He didn't know if she'd recognize the name or not despite the media coverage surrounding the case.

"Okay, Bill. I'll let Rachel, and Harvey, know you stopped by.'' Cassidy didn't want to give too much information away, until she knew this guy's story was legit.

"I was planning to send flowers to Inspector McCabe, she's at County General --- right?" Bill didn't mean to pry but he felt he had put the meeting off long enough.

"Yes. She is." Cassidy was wondering how he knew that, or if it was just a lucky guess. "I'll let them know you stopped by.'' Bill walked away from her desk and left the SIU, planning to make a personal visit to Rachel instead.

**
"I'm actually surprised to see you haven't found a way out of here yet.'' Harvey walked into Rachel's room and sat on the corner of her bed. He knew that her medical needs were more important than her disliking of hospitals for the time being.
He held the deli bag out of her view, wanting to surprise her with some real food in place of the food she was served during her stay.

"I'm ready to leave today. I've been here for nearly a week, nearly as bad as working here again." Rachel sat up on the bed, completely ignoring the IV in her arm after she spotted Harvey's bag. "so what did you bring me?"

"Wait just a minute, you're being released today?" Harvey couldn't imagine she was possibly ready to go home yet. He thought it would be safer for Rachel in the hospital than at her apartment as long as Daniel's was on the lose.

"Got a problem with that?" Rachel smiled with a devilish grin, "I've been here almost a week, Harvey. Quite frankly, I'm bored here. I want to go back to work.'' Rachel was intent on helping them finish off Daniels.

"I think I should talk with your doctors, evidently your meds have afflicted your judgment. There's no way Nash will put you back on the case." Harvey knew Rachel was a dedicated employee, but this was pushing it. She shouldn't be released from the hospital let alone chasing criminals already.

"Harvey...'' Rachel's tone was increasingly seductive, but Harvey wasn't going to let that get to him. Harvey sat face to face with her on her bed, the temptation to make the next move was getting harder and harder to fight. "I'm sure I could, maybe, help you...''

Rachel's hand wandered across his leg, as much as Harvey liked it --- he wasn't about to be seduced into helping her risk her life again. "Hey, hey now... none of that." Harvey's face slowly took on a more rouge hue as as she continued, ''Rachel..."

"Excuse me, Inspectors Leek and McCabe?" Rachel and Harvey both looked up from their questionnable positioning and rearranged themselves before addressing their company.

"Yes?" The minute Rachel looked at him, she knew who he was. It was a face she could never forget, not in a million years.

"I'm Bill Chamberlain. I wanted to come by and personally thank you both for rescuing my daughter." He walked in and set the flowers down on top of the table near the bed. "I stopped by the SIU earlier but Inspector Bridges said I could find you both here.''

Harvey looked at Rachel, a little surprised by her hand so tightly clenching his. "It was all her, I just happened to be there as part of the team. I'm going to give you two a minute and check in with Nash." Harvey evidently didn't take the hint. He smiled at Rachel as he broke her grip, "behave yourself while I'm gone.''

**
Bill pointed to a chair near Rachel's bed, "may I?" Rachel shook her head, praying that Bill wouldn't recognize her after all these years. Her hair was different but the face was still the same. The scene was all too familiar to her.

"I would've come sooner, but I was out of town and I wanted to give you some space." Bill had wanted to come as soon as he got home, but he wanted to give her time to herself after such a traumatic event.

"Thank you. Thou, I'm not quite sure exactly why you're here." Rachel couldn't understand why he'd come to see her. He must know.

"I wanted to thank you personally for what you did. Cards and flowers just didn't seem to suffice." Bill paused a moment as he studied Rachel's face, "perhaps you'll let me take you out one evening?''

Rachel considered the offer, thinking it might be an opportunity to see her daughter once again. It wasn't such a good idea, knowing that would only make things worse. "I really can't."

"There must be something I can do to show you my appreciation?" Bill was willing to do almost anything Rachel asked him for, she saved his little girl and that meant everything to him.

"Really, it's okay. I was just doing my job.'' There was one thing she wanted, but she'd never consider asking for.

"Maybe dinner or lunch with my daughter, she'd love to see you again?'' Cecilia had asked about Rachel nonstop since the incident at the school.

''I'm sorry. I can't. It's policy not to get involved personally with a case." What a load of bull. You can't get much more personally involved than saving your own child.

The conversation was stilted and the silence was nerve wracking for them both. Bill looked at her, he had the feeling he knew her from somewhere. There was something about her that captivated him, maybe it was her smile. It seemed all to familiar. "This is going to sound strange, but do I know you from somewhere?''

Rachel searched for something to say, anything but the truth. "I used to patrol Bayside."

"Maybe that's it. I've certainly gotten my share of parking tickets there." Rachel was relieved he hadn't recognized who she really was. She was lucky time had allowed Bill to forget her. If it had been Mary there, she would have known instantaneously. "Anyways, since you have rejected my offers of appreciation due to personal policy, this is from my daughter. She requested that I bring this to you." He smiled and handed her a homemade thank you/get well card from Cecilia. "Thanks again, Rachel and good luck."

He walked out of the room while Rachel was looking at the card, as tears began to stream down her face.

**
"You ready to go?" Harvey picked up Rachel's bag off the bed and waited as she folded something and slipped it into her pocket.

"Yeah, go head out and I'll meet you. I've got to take care of something first.'' Rachel searched through a stack of papers until Harvey left the room. She picked up the phone and dialed, waiting for him to pick up. Instead, she got voicemail.

"Nash, it's me, Rachel... Everything went fine. Listen, if Bill Chamberlain stops by again anytime soon, tell him I'm out on leave still, okay?... Thanks. I'll see you tomarrow." Rachel hung up the phone, intending to tell Nash about Bill the next day at work. She left the room to go meet Harvey before he worried.

**
"Rachel, what's wrong?" Harvey knew something had been bothering Rachel since before they had left the hospital that afternoon as she paced the living room before him.

"Nothing, I'll be fine." Rachel didn't feel like getting into it now with Harvey, this was her problem and she wanted to keep it that way.

"There's something wrong and your not telling me." Harvey couldn't understand why she felt the need to be so secretive about whatever it was.

"I'm fine, but I think you should leave." Rachel wanted to be alone in her misery. This was something Harvey could never figure out about her, why she felt she had to take on the world.

"I'm not leaving until you tell me what's going on. Did something happen today with Chamberlain?" That was the only incident of the day Harvey could think of that could've made an impact. Rachel normally didn't let her job get to her, there was something wrong.

"Harvey, just drop it. Okay?" When she told Nash, it was out of necessity. Harvey didn't have to know, he was just pestering her.

"No. It's not okay." Harvey couldn't understand the fort Rachel was building around herself emotionally, she had never been like this before. "Why won't you tell me what's going on?"

"Because it's personal, nothing you need to worry about. "

"What's personal, Rachel?" Countless ideas ran through Harvey's mind but nothing seemed to make sense. There had to be some connection he was missing.

"Listen, it doesn't matter what it is --- there's no way you can fix it or make it better. It's just something I have to live with.'' Rachel turned away so Harvey couldn't see her eyes welling up with tears. "Why do care so much?"

"I worry about you, Rachel. Please, don't shut me out." Harvey walked up behind her and loosely wrapped his arms around her. "I care about you.''

"You shouldn't tell a woman that, she might get the wrong idea." Rachel turned to him and smiled, trying to lighten her mood. It was obvious he wasn't going to go away.

"Think what you will, woman." He paused a minute, "I don't know about you, but I'm pretty hungry. Chinese take-out good for you?" Harvey hoped he could bribe her to talk.

"That's fine." She really didn't feel like eating, but she felt it was the least she could do since he was her designated babysitter. Rachel wondered if Nash put him up to this or if it was out of his own volition.

"The usual?" Harvey knew what she ordered, it was vegetable lo mein everytime with a side of plain rice. She never changed.

"You know me so well." She had no idea how Harvey kept it all straight in his head. There were times when he'd grab dinner for several of them on late nights at the SIU and he'd remember what everyone ordered previously.

"At times. I'll go get this, when I get back, we can talk." Harvey was intent on finding out what was bothering her by the end of the night.

"Okay." Rachel didn't know by this point what she was agreeing to anymore and she didn't care. She just wanted to be alone.

**
Harvey walked into Rachel's apartment with the Chinese take-out in hand. As he went to set it down, Harvey saw a folded card on the table. When he saw the child-like writing, he he assumed Bill had brought it from Cecilia. For one reason or another, he couldn't help but think Bill's appearance today had a lot to do with Rachel's emotional warpath. "Rache?" He looked into the kitchen and down the hall, still no reply. "Rache? Dinner's here."

"I'll be there in a minute." Rachel sat on her bed with an open box in front of her. Inside the box were various pictures, a copied birth certificate and other momentos of her well-kept secret. Harvey walked down the hall towards her room after waiting a few minutes and knocked on her door.

"Rache? Are you okay?" Harvey waited patiently outside her door.

Rachel flipped through the various pictures. With each photo, her heart seemed to grow heavier. She hadn't done this for a while, gone through the box. Not even after she told Nash. But that was different, she didn't come face to face with her. She didn't hold her in her arms. This was worse.

"Rache?" Harvey wanted to know what was wrong, what had gotten her so upset. He wished that he could see through the door or at least know what she was thinking. She got up, leaving the box open on her bed. Rachel wasn't expecting to find him right outside her door when she opened it.

"You know, I'm really not that hungry. You can go ahead and take it home. I think I'm just going to go to bed." She was copping out, no matter what she had told him earlier... now was not a good time.

"Oh no. You're not getting off that easy." Harvey couldn't figure out why she wouldn't just tell him, what could be so horrible? Rachel moved, hoping to prevent Harvey from seeing the box laying upon her bed. He decided to try humor. "I sat here with you all day, silent and moody as you were; I went out in the rain to bring you dinner, which you are probably only going to pick at, because that's just how you are... at the very least, I deserve some dinner conversation."

**
Rachel watched Harvey while he ate as they sat together on the couch, in silence. Harvey stopped a moment, "are you sure you don't want any?"

"I'm positive." She just wasn't up to eating or talking. Rachel knew what Harvey was thinking about, he wanted an answer and she felt obligated to give him one. She just didn't know how.

"If this was a date, I wouldn't call you again." Harvey smiled, trying to perk her up a little. "You're too quiet and you don't eat. Lots of men would love that, I don't. I like'em loud and hungry." Harvey chuckled, "what have you done with the woman I was at Mandara's with two weeks ago? She was lively."

"You must have taken her home with you and ruined it."

"That was cold," he smiled, "but there's the fiery sarcasm I love. Welcome back." Rachel could tell he was avoiding the topic. She couldn't take it anymore, she had to tell him.

"Cecilia's my daughter, I gave her up at birth." Rachel didn't know what more she could say. Harvey looked at her, in shock. He set the take-out carton down and stared at the floor for a moment. Harvey searched his mind, not knowing where to begin.

"Did he, I mean Bill, recognize you?" Harvey was wondering if that's what got her going this afternoon. Maybe Bill had recognized her and said something.

"No. Lucky I guess." It was pure luck that Bill hadn't remembered who she was, she couldn't fathom how things might have turned out if he did.

Harvey looked at her again, completely floored by what she just revealed. "And you didn't tell him?"

"No, of course not. It's been a while, over six years. But I couldn't forget him if I tried." The events of that day six years ago replayed slowly in her head. "I remember everything like it was yesterday."

"I guess you would." Harvey wanted to know why, but he didn't feel now was the time to ask. He didn't feel he knew her well enough to ask something so personal.

Rachel could tell Harvey was having a problem processing everything she just told him. His silence said a lot. "I wasn't ready to raise a child on my own back then, not that I'd be much better know." She could tell something else was bothering Harvey, as if there was something he wanted to ask but was afraid to. "I don't regret my decision, not for a minute. I know it was for the best, it's just times like this where everything gets hard... and complicated."

Harvey found everything a bit overwhelming, never expecting Rachel to be as open about the whole thing as she was. He could understand why she was so secretive, this was a big part of her life. He couldn't imagine what it must be like for her at this moment. "Does anyone else know? Nash?"

"Yes, but he's the only one. I'd prefer to keep it that way." She had considered telling Joe, after everything that happened, but she didn't want to put him in a peculiar position because of his friendship with Bill.

"Okay." Harvey knew it had taken a lot out of her to tell him everything, the look on her face was a mixture of bittersweet relief. He pulled Rachel into his arms and softly kissed her head, "everything is going to be fine."

**
"What's on your mind, Daddy?" Cassidy looked across the dining room table at Nash. He was unusually quiet during dinner so she knew something was bothering him.

"Richard Daniels." All Nash thought about anymore was this case, his life revolved around it. He waited each moment to catch Daniel's next move.

''In other words, what happened to Rachel?" Cassidy knew her father's feelings for Rachel hadn't ended when their relationship did.

"In part, yes. I feel responsible for what happened." Nash blamed himself more for what happened with her daughter than her injuries, but he couldn't tell Cassidy that. He was the only one who knew and he didn't want to go against his word to Rachel.

"Daddy, it's not your fault. It could've happened to any of us." Cassidy knew that her father hadn't anticipated the situation getting as bad as it did. "She'll be fine. That woman has more lives than a cat."

"This is true, and she keeps coming back for more.''

**
"Can we talk?" Nash turned around to find Rachel standing before him. It was evident she had been crying and was still upset, her face and tone said it all. He had stepped outside for some air, but this was far more important.

"Of course. Let's go for a drive." The last week had been hard on everyone, especially her. He hadn't gotten the chance to speak to her about the case since she was in the hospital. Someone else was always there and he knew how important her secret was.

**
"Hey, have you seen Rachel around?" Harvey wanted to see if she was feeling any better this morning. Rachel was all Harvey could think about since he left her apartment. He had seen her car in the parking lot, so he knew she there whether she felt up to it or not.

Joe shrugged his shoulders and thought for a moment, "you know, she was here but then she left with Nash." Joe wasn't sure what was going on with those two, it was anybody's guess.

"Oh." Harvey glanced down at the newspaper clippings in his hand, feeling completely defeated. Nash had beat him yet again. It wasn't fair.

''He's worried she's coming back too soon, they're probably arguing with the big guys now." Joe really had no idea why Nash and Rachel had left together, despite his own thoughts about Nash pleading with her to give him another chance. No matter what the real reason was, he was sure it was something Harvey wouldn't want to hear. "If I see her, I'll let her know.''

"Thanks." Harvey sat down at his desk, wondering where Nash and Rachel were. Insane ideas filled his head as he considered his competition. This wasn't going to be an easy battle.

**
"How do you feel?" Nash looked at Rachel across the table. He thought she'd be more comfortable talking outside of the SIU, so he brought her to the Cafe on 7th. He knew she had been here with Nick more than once. Nick had told him a lot about Rachel, more than he'd ever find out on his own.

"Physically, I've been better. Emotionally, I'm a wreck." There was no other way to explain it. The bruises and fractures would heal, but this left scars that time couldn't erase.

"Do you need more time off?" Nash was hoping he'd be able to convince her to at least take a few more days to clear her mind.

"No. I need to do something to get her out of my head, staying at home would only make it worse.'' She had considered taking another day or two off, but she saw no point. It would only give her more opportunities to think about what might have been.

"Understandable." He paused a moment while the waiter poured him a cup of coffee after Rachel passed on her own, "Cassidy said Bill Chamberlain stopped by yesterday?"

"He did. Bill asked if there was anything he could do for me as a sign of his appreciation." Nash could tell his visit had been a devastating blow, something she definitely didn't need in her condition. "I told him it was policy that cops not get involved personally in a case."

"Though it doesn't get much more personal than your own child." Nash wished more than anything he hadn't assigned her to this case. The look in her eyes told him she was torn between the decision she made years ago and the one at hand.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't be doing this...going on about how miserable I am. It's not your fault. You've probably got a million other things on your mind." Rachel knew Nash would never hold this against her, but she felt bad telling him about her problems when he already had plenty of his own.

"If I had known she was there, I never would've put you on this case." Nash reached for her hand across the table, "I can only imagine how you must feel."

"I don't blame you, Nash. What were you going to do, ask for a class roster before you assigned the case?" Rachel gave a slight smile, "it's just something I have to accept and live with."

"But you don't have to deal with it alone." Nash wanted Rachel to know he was still there for her as a friend, despite their personal entanglement earlier on.

**
Richard Daniels sat outside Joe's house, watching as Inger and Lucia walked in. He charted their every move, he wasn't going to let Joe get away with ruining his plan. Rachel had lived, that was bad enough. Joe was going to have to pay for what he did.

**
Harvey passed by the windows and saw Nash with Rachel outside near the railing. He watched as Nash put his arms around her and held her, part of him was filled with jealousy and the other part rage. Nash was using her terrible predicament to his advantage.

"Nash, thank you for today." Nash would never know how much their talks meant to Rachel, but she had to admit he wasn't the conversationalist Harvey was. She wished she could tell Harvey about it all, but she couldn't help but feel she was continually burdening him with each crisis that came up.

"You were there when I needed you, I'm just returning the favor. You know, I'd ask you to dinner this evening, but I can't guarantee I wouldn't want you to stay the night." He knew it would be too much, he had been fighting his feelings since the Collins case closed. Rachel would be too close for him to resist tempation.

"I understand. It still is a little akward, from time to time." Rachel still heard gossip around the SIU about the two of them being together. Many people questioned how she retained her job after they broke up, she didn't mind. They parted on good terms and the past was behind them. Rachel gave him a warm smile, assuring him that he wasn't the only one who thought about them being together.

"You can say that again.," he paused a minute, "come to think of it... we should both be moving on an expanding our horizons."

"I'm working on it, " Rachel laughed at the thought. Until that moment, she never considered him as an integral part of her future. It was apparent he was. "I want to see how things go."

Nash opened the door for her as the walked back towards the SIU, "can I warn him? The poor soul has a right to know what he's getting into." Nash wondered if it was anyone he knew, he hadn't seen Rachel with anyone lately and no one besides the SIU team and Bill had been at the hospital.

Rachel grinned mischeviously, "he's stuck around awhile, I think he knows me pretty well." She had never before spoken of him in such context, Rachel hoped she wasn't wrong about him.

"Give him my sympathies." Nash chuckled, knowing any guy would be lucky to have a woman like her.

**
"How are you?" Harvey watched Rachel as her eyes perused the computer screen later that evening. He hadn't gotten the chance to talk to her since the night before. She seemed to be miles away, using her work as a distraction. "Rache?" She continued to search the screen aimlessly, not replying. "Rache?"

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize..." she paused for a minute as she tried to sort everything out in her mind. She wasn't ready for her past to come back to haunt her, especially not now with the hope of embarking on a new relationship. This would be a definite turn off. "Joe said you were looking for me earlier?"

"I just wanted to bring you these." Harvey handed Rachel a stack of newspaper articles from the past week concerning what happened at the school. He knew she didn't read the paper often, but he had a feeling she might want to keep these. Rachel glanced down at the articles, not sure how to react. She forced herself to smile in appreciation for his kind gesture.

"Thank you, for doing this... for everything." Rachel wanted nothing more than to collapse into his arms tell him everything, knowing he wouldn't expect anything in return. Harvey sat down on the corner of her desk, and reached for her hand.

"You know where to find me if you need me." Harvey got up from her desk and started to walk away, wondering what had gone on between her and Nash that afternoon.

"Harve?" Harvey glanced back at Rachel, who by this time had shut her computer off and looked ready to leave.

"Yes?" Harvey hadn't anticipated her wanting to talk, but he assumed he should see what she had to say.

"I'm sorry about earlier. I know I said I'd talk to you when I came in, but I got caught up with Nash and..." She felt he deserved an explanation for her silence and absence that day. Rachel moved from her desk and walked towards him, "I'm not trying to avoid you, if that's what you're thinking. "

''Don't worry about it, I know you've had a lot on your mind lately." Harvey wanted to tell her she was the only one on his mind, but the moment wasn't right.

"I had to get out of here, I was a bit overwhelmed when I first came back in and I needed to talk to someone before I drove myself insane. I didn't know if after last night..." Harvey couldn't believe she'd think that he wouldn't want her to talk about what was going on. He wanted to help her, he just didn't know how.

"Rache, you know I'm here to talk if you ever need to." He regretted not coming in early that morning, wondering if he had just thrown Rachel back into Nash's arms.

"I know." Harvey watched as Rachel walked out to her car, waiting for her to leave before he went to see Nash about what was going on.
**
"Nash, would you tell me if you were involved with someone?" Joe looked at Nash curiously as he stood before the filing cabinet.

"What?" Nash wasn't sure he was hearing Joe right, Joe normally wasn't so evasive.

"Would you tell me if you were dating someone?" Joe thought he had phrased the question well enough the first time, he figured Nash was trying to avoid the answer.

"Like who?" Nash assumed Joe knew something he didn't. It wouldn't be the first time Nash's lovelife was the subject of the SIU rumor mill. "What have you heard?"

"I'm just asking if you would tell me, I haven't heard anything." Joe fought the urge to tell him what he thought, "it's just that you and..."

"Me and who? Rachel?..." Joe's question became clear now, he was inquiring about his morning with Rachel. "Bubba, its not what you think."

"It sure looks like it." Nash couldn't deny that he still had feelings for Rachel and that it occasionally might appear like they were still together.

"Well, its not." Nash didn't want to go through this yet again. He wanted more than a friendship with Rachel, but given his history and the way things are now, that was more than he could ask for.

**
"Got a minute?" Harvey approached Nash's desk slowly, worried about his reaction to what he needed to say. Harvey couldn't understand the situation between Nash and Rachel, all he could knew was what it appeared to be from his vantage point.

"Sure." Nash had a feeling this was going to be about Rachel, all of their discussions were these days. Harvey had taken a keen interest in her over the past few months and Nash wondered if he planned to act on it or let it go.

"I'm worried about Rachel." Harvey wanted to start out simply, see what Nash had to say before he attacked.

"She's a tough lady, she'll be back on her feet in no time.'' Nash had no doubt in his mind that Rachel would rebound from what had happened over time.

"I'm not so sure." Rachel had shown Harvey a side of her like none he had ever seen before, complete devastation. It was obvious she needed to talk to someone, he just hated that the someone had to be Nash.

"Why do you say that?" Rachel hardly ever let her guard down, Nash was curious as to why anyone would ever think otherwise.

"You know why, Nash. You could've just stabbed her in the back, the pain factor is about the same." Harvey couldn't understand how Nash could've let Rachel handle the case knowing her daughter was there.

"Wait a minute, Bubba, where's this coming from?" In his mind, he hadn't done anything wrong as far as Rachel was concerned. Nash was being a friend to her, thought

"You put Rachel on a case that deliberately placed her in a position to be with the child you knew she could never have." That's what had happened, at least in Harvey's mind. He couldn't imagine it occuring any other way. Rachel would never have gone if she knew her daughter would be there, so he didn't tell her.

"She told you that?" Nash knew Rachel was angry about what happened, but he wouldn't consider her telling Harvey he set her up.

"No. I figured it out for myself. And now you're taking advantage of her vulnerability.'' Harvey didn't want to see Rachel get hurt, especially not by his own friend.

"Did I miss something here?" Nash felt like he tuned Harvey out for a few minutes and re-entered the conversation. It didn't add up, he couldn't figure out why Harvey would be accusing him of setting up Rachel on the case. Harvey knew he still cared for her, didn't he?

"Nash, you know I respect you. But this has gone a little too far. Why would you even consider placing Rachel on a case like this, was it to win her back?"

"Harvey, you've got the wrong idea. I didn't know Rachel's daughter was at that school. I'd never use her child against her, especially not to win her back. Rachel and I are friends, we've both moved on." Nash said it. They had both moved on, now it was a matter of comvincing himself that it was over between them.

"Oh." Harvey felt like a complete idiot for jumping the gun. "I'm sorry, Nash. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions like that. It's just that..."

"That's alright, I know you're just looking out for her. I'd never knowingly put her in a position like that.'' Nash couldn't begin to explain how sorry he was that the situation turned out as it did.

Harvey knew Nash's feelings for Rachel as a friend were sincere but wasn't sure if the fire was put out in the romance department. "That wouldn't have been a very good way to win her back. An insult to the Bridges' touch."

Nash laughed, "if I were you, I'd probably think the same thing about me but I'd never sink that low. I know my history with women isn't the best, but Rachel's smart enough to figure me out. As far as romance goes, I think she's interested in someone else." As much as Nash hated to admit it, Rachel was ready to move on.

Harvey's eyes filled with wonder at Nash's suggestion, wondering if Rachel's interest was in him. The more he thought about it, the more he denied it could be true. After all, a kiss is just a kiss. Right?
