Monday Revelations
Chapter 11
"Antwon...My buddy!   Isn't it a beautiful day?"   Harvey Leek strolled into the SIU Monday morning looking as though he didn't have a care in the world.   Antwon watched in amusement as Harvey walked over to his desk and stood whistling a tune while sorting through his messages.  He had a good idea of why his partner was so happy.

Antwon:   Let me guess.  Your date with Cassandra went well?

Harvey(chuckling):  It shows, does it?

Twon:  Let me put it this way.  If the fog rolls in, we can use you as a beacon.  Man, you are absolutely glowing!

Harvey walked over to Antwon's desk and sat down on the edge.  "I think that I'm falling for her, Twon.  Yesterday was.... amazing!   We went sightseeing and she was so excited about visiting  Fisherman's Wharf and San Quintin.   Seeing these old familiar places through her eyes was like seeing them for the first time.   It was very cool!

Antwon:  Did you take her to Fort Point?

Harvey(smiling slyly):  Yes...I did.

Antwon:  And?

Harvey:  And what?

Antwon:  Don't play dumb with me, Harvey Leek.  You know what I'm asking.  Did you kiss her?

Harvey didn't answer.  He simply sat on the desk with a knowing smile on his face.  That smile spoke volumes to Antwon though.   "Woo Hoo, you did kiss her.  You dog...you planned that one just right."   Harvey snickered as picked up his coffee cup and walked towards the break area.   "Oh, no Harv.  You're not getting off that easily today."   Antwon clicked off the computer and quickly caught up with Harvey.  "Spill it"  he demanded.    "I'll have you know that I didn't plan to kiss her.  As a matter of fact, I think that she initated it.  Or maybe I did.  Hell, I don't remember who started it but it was well worth the effort.  That kiss was.... (Antwon and Harvey speak in unison) amazing."

Antwon(teasing):  So are you planning to see her again?

Harvey:  Are you kidding me?   Tonight isn't soon enough for me.  She taking off early and I'm picking her up at the club at eight.  I haven't decided what we're doing beyond that.

Antwon:  Sounds like you're hooked, brother.

Harvey:  Yeah!  It does, doesn't it!

Officer Ronnie had arrived for work a few minutes early so that he could have a short meeting with Harvey before his shift began.

Ronnie:  Got a minute, Harv?

Harvey set aside the report that he was working on and leaned back in his chair, giving the officer his full attention.  "Sure Ronnie, what's up?"

Ronnie:   Good news and bad news about that kid.   His name is Stephen Griggs, fourteen years old, lives with his Mom and younger sister.  The good news is that he doesn't have any priors and he's  not a gangbanger.   The bad news... his cousin is Mario Baptiste.   I was told that they spend a lot of time together and are very close.

Harvey:  Wonderful.   An innocent kid with Baptiste as a role model.  That's not a good thing.  (he drifts in thought for a moment)  Why was this kid standing in front of Cassandra's apartment at 4 in the morning?    Baptiste could be having her followed but why?  I don't like this Ronnie.  I don't like it one bit.   (stands up and pats Ronnie on the back)  Thanks Buddy.  I appreciate your help.

Ronnie:  "Just give a yell if you need my help with this, Harv.  Cassandra's a nice lady.  But I don't have to tell you that."   Harvey watched as Ronnie walked away.   It was unbelievable how fast news traveled around the SIU.

The black sedan pulled up to the security gate that surrounded the large estate belonging to Ramone Bastille.   "Mario Baptiste to see Mr. Bastille."  the driver told the guard.  After receiving clearance, Baptiste drove up to the front door where he was met by another guard.  He was frisked before being escorted into the drawing room where he was met by Bastille.

Bastille:  I'm very busy today Mario so let's make this as brief as possible.

Mario:  I thought that I should warn you about the members of that band at CJ's.  I'm positive that the singer is a cop from Amarillo.  She's been trying to pin a murder rap on me for over a year.  I don't know how she found out that I was here in San Francisco unless Tanner notified her.  I know that they have been friends for a long time.  If she's a cop then you know that the other must be....

Bastille:  Mario..Mario.  Calm down, my friend.   My assistant recently completed an extensive investigation into the backgrounds of each band member.  All the information that we have on them checks out....they're clean, Mario.  The singer's name is Cassandra Tanner and she has worked in Nashville for several years as a demo singer.  Nothing harmful about that.  Her voice is quite nice.

Mario:  I'm telling you, the woman's a cop!   Your assistant is lying and she may be setting you up, man.   How much do you trust her?

Bastille:  "I TRUST HER WITH MY LIFE!!   SHE'S MY SISTER!"   Bastille motioned for the guards.   He then grabbed Baptiste by his hair and jerked his head back to look him in the eye.    "Fair warning Mario.  Never come into my home and accuse my family of betrayal.  It could be harmful to your health.   Blood protects blood...you got that?  (addressing the guards)  Escort Mr. Baptiste to his car and make sure that he vacates the premises."

Captain Ron Jameson arranged a meeting between the undercover officers and himself on Monday afternoon.   He told them about the meeting that he and Nash Bridges had on Sunday and the new plans for the assignment.

Jameson:   Several officers from the SIU will be situated throughout the club and will be acting as backup for you.   Nash and I agreed that it would be best if these officers remained anonymous.  They will not identify themselves to you and vice versa.  (walks to his desk and sits down before speaking)  Bastille has his fingers in not only the drug scene, but prostitution as well.  He can gain access to even the most confidental information.  The details of this case and the officers involved are known to only a chosen few.   For this reason, we ask that you abide by our request and protect your covers.  I can't stress this enough.  For your own protection... DO NOT...under any circumstances, reveal your identity to anyone.   That's not a request people, it's an order.

Because it was Monday night, the band only had to perform one set.  The Monday night game was being shown on the big screen television for the sports fans who crammed into the club to enjoy the half price beer and chilli special.   Jameson decided that the band members should leave the club instead of hanging around waiting for Bastille and company to arrive.  Officers Harrow and Grant would monitor the situation and call for backup if needed.

Casey seemed distracted as she sat at the bar waiting for Harvey to arrive.  Her mind kept drifting to thoughts of yesterday's date and she couldn't wait to spend some quality time with Harvey tonight.

Chuck:  Hey Jen....have you noticed that far away look in our girl's eyes?

Jen:  Makes you wonder what she could possibly be thinking about?

Casey:  Hmm....what?  Did you say something?

Jen:  I said that I think you're suffering from an overdose of happiness.   What's got you in such a state of euphoria?

Casey looked towards the end of the bar and noticed that Harvey had arrived and was looking around trying to find her in the rather large crowd.   She leaned over the bar and put her arm around Jen's neck.   "I can answer that question with one word, Miss Jen.  (pointing to Harvey)  Him!"

Harvey and Casey decided to have dinner at the China Palace first and then they would decide how to spend the rest of the evening.   The atmosphere in the restaurant was rather peaceful and quiet which allowed the couple to talk about their day.  Harvey fought the urge to tell her about Mario Baptiste and the fact that he might be having her followed.  He decided to leave the subject alone until he had more proof.  He didn't want to have her worrying unnecessarily.   After dinner, they drove around town in the PT Cruiser discussing their options for the night.

Harvey:  We could catch a movie.

Casey:  I'm not really in the mood for a movie.

Harvey laughed softly and gave her a bewildered look.  "Why don't you just tell me what you want to do because I don't have a clue."

Casey:  Honestly?  I want to kick these shoes off, light some candles, put on some good music and just relax for the rest of the night.

Harvey:  I do like the way you think!    Alright...I'll give you a choice.   Do we call it a night and I take you home or would you like to stop by my place to talk for while.   I can offer you a great bottle of wine and the chance to meet my room-mate,  the world's most lovable Great Dane.

Casey laughed out loud:   You have a great dane living inside your house?  He must be very well trained.  What's his name?

Harvey:   King.   His owner had abandoned him and he found his way to my front yard where he proceeded to tear up my newspaper.  I thought about calling animal control but I couldn't stand the idea of  having him put to sleep.  So I adopted him and he has given me totally unconditional love ever since.

Casey:  Let's go and visit with King for a while.

She was surprised that Harvey lived in a large apartment in the Haight district.  It wasn't far from the little apartment that she had now.  Harvey opened the front door and the sound of  a large dog galloping through the house could be heard.   "Down boy!  King..sit!"  Harvey's commands went unheeded.   Casey laughed as the large dog stood up, resting his paws on her shoulders and licking her face.  "It's nice to meet you too, boy"  she said still laughing  "I guess I don't have to worry about washing my face tonight."  King sat down at her feet, wagging his tail as she patted him.  "You're just a big baby, aren't you?"    Harvey found the sight quite amusing but decided that he should rescue her from his overly excited dog.  "Come on boy.  Time to go outside."

Casey hung her coat up and walked into the living room to wait for Harvey to return.   She was surprised to find the appartment neat, clean and tastefully decorated.  A fireplace with a large mirror above the mantel was the center piece of the room.  She noticed a photo of a small boy on the mantel and picked it up for a better look.  "That's my boy, Jerry"   Harvey said as he walked back into the room carrying a bottle of wine and two glasses.  "He's adorable, Harvey.  He has your eyes."   Casey observed.   "Yeah, he's a great kid.  I hope to have at least one more.   There something special about having a little creature following in behind me and calling me Daddy."

Harvey built a fire to help take the chill out of the cool San Francisco night.  Casey kicked off her shoes and sat down on the floor in front of the fire while Harvey lit the numerous candles that were placed around the spacious living room.  After loading several CDs in the stereo, he walked over to Casey and handed her a glass of wine before sitting down next to her.  He grabbed several pillows from the couch so that they could lean on them and relax.

Casey(sighs):  This is my idea of heaven.  No work....no shoes!  A glass of wine, the Dead, candlelight, a roaring fire and a really great guy.  I can't think of anything that could make this night more perfect.

Harvey:  I think that I might know of one thing.

His hand rested gently against her face and Casey leaned into it's warmth.  It only took the soft touch of his lips against her's to stir feelings that she had not felt in such a long time.   Harvey tenderly carressed her cheek and lips with his fingertips as they stared lovingly into each others eyes.  There was a light shining in her eyes that he hadn't noticed before.  A light that expressed her love and desire for him.   Harvey reached out to take her in his arms before kissing her again.  They sank back into the pillows, holding each other and anticipating the events that would unfold during the night.

*RING!!*   Harvey pulled away from their embrace and smiled mischievously.  "That was some kiss!  I'm hearing bells."  Casey giggled as she pulled him back for another kiss.  * RING!*   Casey put her hands on his chest to push him away.  "Your phone's ringing."     "I'm not answering it"  he replied as he placed soft kisses along her neck.   * RING!!*    "Maybe you should answer it.  It might be important."  Casey reluctantly pushed Harvey away and quickly sat up so that they wouldn't be tempted to continue the makeout session.   * RING!!!*    Harvey sat up and sighed heavily before pointing a finger at Casey and telling her:  "Don't move!"

Harvey was upset that the constant ringing had interrupted such an intimate moment.  He grabbed the phone from it's base and answered rather angerly:  "What?"   The tone of Harvey's voice took Ronnie by surprise and he hesitated before responding.   "Uh, Harv....it's Ronnie.  I'm sorry to disturb you but your CI, Charlie,  is here at the SIU.  He claims to have some info about Bastille but he won't talk to anyone but you."   Harvey gave Casey a disappointed look as he listened to what Ronnie was saying.  "I'll be right there."

Casey had overheard the conversation and looked down at the glass of wine that she was holding.  The look on Harvey's face was so pitiful she had to surpress a laugh.  It seemed that any hopes of romance had been dashed by the ringing of the telephone.   Harvey returned to her side and explained the situation at the station.   "He's a strange little man.  He refuses to talk to anyone but me but he has provided some valuable information about this case so far."

Casey reached out to take his hand.  "You're a cop.  Getting called away at...ahem...inopportune moments is in the job description."   Harvey looked down at their joined hands and acknowledged her with a nod.  Casey gently touched his face so that she could raise his face to see his eyes.  "Harvey...it's alright.  I understand."

Harvey:  I'm sorry Cassandra.  Listen, don't take a taxi home.  Why don't you just crash here for the night.   You can sleep in my bed.  (snickers)  I'm inviting a beautiful woman into my bed and I'm not reaping any of the benefits.  Somehow, that doesn't seem fair.  (sighs again)  The planets must be misaligned.

Harvey put the shoulder holster back on and slipped on his jacket before looking around for his keys.  Casey picked them up from the table and handed them to him along with his beret.  He kissed her quickly.  "I'm going to activate the alarm when I leave. (he writes down information)  This is the alarm code, just in case you should need it and this is the number of the security company that monitors it.  If you don't mind, let King back in.  He will either lay in front of the fire or stay in his bed on the backporch.   What else should you know?  I guess that's it.  Make yourself at home and I'll be back as soon as I can get away from Charlie."   He shut the door behind him but then quickly opened it again.  "You will be here when I get back, right?"

Casey:  I'll be here.  I'll probably be asleep but yes, I'll be here.

Harvey gave her another quick kiss and closed the door before setting the alarm.  He didn't want to take a chance on letting her return to her apartment unchaperoned.     Cassandra was safe at his apartment and Baptiste couldn't harm her.

Casey had tidied up the living room and taken the wine and glasses into the kitchen.  She washed the few dishes and put them away before opening the back door to allow King to come in.  He had calmed down and followed in behind her as she returned to the living room.   Casey lay down in front of the fire and propped up on the pillows.  She stared into the fire and thought about how right this whole situation with Harvey felt.   If only she had listened to Evan and come out for a visit sooner.  Would she have met Harvey sooner?   Her eyes became heavier with each new thought and before long she was asleep with King laying beside her keeping guard.
