Thinking About You Chapter 7 |
Casey stretched lazily as she woke Friday morning. She rolled onto her stomach, just relaxing. It had been over three weeks since the band had started performing at the club and the long hours were beginning to take their toll. Reaching over to the nightstand, she put her hand on top of the telephone receiver and let it ring a few times before answering it. Casey: "Hello Steph" Stephanie: "Now how did you know it was me? Sorry to call so early but I've got a busy day and I wanted to check on you. So how's the case going?" Casey: We have a meeting this afternoon with Capt. Jameson and Mr. Solomon from the commissioner's office. They're getting impatient waiting for some kind of results with this case. The only thing that we know for sure is that something big is being planned but we can't pinpoint a time or location. I'm afraid that if we don't make a drastic move soon, this case is going to blow up in our faces. (sits up in the middle of the bed) But enough about work. I want to tell you about this guy that I've met. Steph, he is absolutely gorgeous!! He has the most amazing blue eyes, curly brown hair, a smile that could melt ice..." Stephanie( laughing): Whoa girl! I haven't heard you this excited about a man in a long time. So, does this HOT guy have a name?" Casey(sighing): His name is Harvey. Stephanie(continuing to laugh): So, where did you meet this Hot Harvey anyway? Casey: At the club. He just dropped in one night and has come by almost every night for the past three weeks. He's so interesting to talk to...very intelligent. We've discussed literature, politics, dolls... Stephanie: DOLLS? Casey: Yes, dolls. (laughing) Apparently his job requires that he work strange hours from time to time. He said that when he gets off from work at 3 am there's not much to watch on television and he got hooked on the doll collecting segment of the Home Shopping Network. THAT'S how he knows about dolls. Harvey's a great guy, Steph...he's so much fun to be around and has this wonderful sense of humor. Stephanie: It sounds like you really like this guy. So tell me, what did the two of you do on your first date? Casey: Actually, we haven't had a date yet. He hasn't asked and I'm trying to concentrate on this case. I will admit though, he's the kind of guy that I could easily fall for and that scares the hell out of me. Love and romance haven't exactly been a priority for me in a while. Stephanie: But if he's such a great guy, isn't it worth taking a chance? Come on Casey, you know that you can't hide in your work forever. You have to start living again sometime....might as well be now. Casey: I know that but right now the Tanner's are counting on me to help them. This case requires my complete attention and I really should push all thoughts dating to the back of my mind. Yep...that's what I'm gonna do. I'll talk with Harvey at the club but that will be as far as it goes. I just won't think of him as anything more than a friend. (sighing) No matter how much I melt when he looks at me with those sexy eyes. Casey's voice drifted and Steph had to bring her friend back to reality. Stephanie: Earth to Casey! Listen, don't push the guy away because of this assignment. If you really like him, go for it. Sounds like opportunity is knocking and Love could be on the other side of the door. I'm talking about a real and true love. Casey(sighing again): "I hear what you're saying and I know you're right but then again, it's easier said than done. Besides, he may not even think of me as anything but a friend. Heck, he hasn't even asked for my phone number. * It had been a busy morning at the SIU and Insp. Antwon Babcock was at his computer doing a background check on a member of Baptiste's gang who had been brought in for questioning. He and his partner, Harvey Leek, had been interogating the young man for over an hour but he knew the drill and was keeping his mouth shut until he saw his lawyer. Antwon looked around for Harvey to ask him a question but he wasn't anywhere on the first floor. Ronnie mentioned that he had seen Harvey going upstairs a short while ago. Antwon walked upstairs to the break area and found Harvey standing outside, leaning on the railing and looking totally lost in his thoughts. Antwon: Hey Harv, you alright man. Harvey (startled from his thoughts): Huh... what? Oh yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking. Antwon (smiling): Let me guess... you were thinking of that singer from that club, right? What was her name? Oh yeah, Cassandra. Harvey: Guilty! It's like she has taken over my mind, man. I think about her constantly. We've had some great conversations during these past few weeks and I really like her. She has such a sweet disposition and a great sense of humor. And of course, she's absolutely gorgeous." Antwon knew that it had been awhile since Harvey had been involved with someone. His relationship with the mother of his child had ended badly and a few blind dates had bombed. Even though they didn't share a close friendship, Antwon did care about his partner. It would be great to see someone in Harvey's life that truly cared for him. There had been so much sadness in Harv's life the past few years, it was time for him to find a little happiness. Antwon: So, why don't you call her and ask her out. Who knows, she may really be into you, too. (noticing the sheepish look on Harvey's face) You did get her number, right? Harvey: No, I didn't get her number! I've been at the club so much I was afraid that if I asked for it, she might think that I was stalking her or something. Antwon: Hmm...are you going to the club tonight? Harvey: No, I'm working a double shift tonight. Conrad had a family emergency and I told him I would cover for him. I'll probably go tomorrow night though. Why do you ask? Antwon: I thought I would go with you. I'd like to meet the woman who has you so mesmerized. (putting his hand on Harvey's shoulder) And Harv...don't even think about leaving without her phone number. Antwon walked away leaving Harvey to finish drinking his coffee and to think about their conversation. Could it be possible that Cassandra liked him as well? Yes, they had some great conversations but what did they really have in common? Did she like any other type of music? Did she even know who the Dead were? Could she handle the stress of dating a cop? Harvey shook his head as he refilled the cup with coffee. So many questions and so few answers. Harvey: I guess there's only one way to find out!! * * * |
