Staring around the room, Harvey tried to think of a way out.  There didn’t seem to be any way that he could think of, but he was determined.  He knew that Chambers was serious about “motivating” him to help in his plan, and Harvey wanted to make sure that didn’t happen.  After about an hour Chambers sent a man to bring Harvey some food.  Seeing this as an opportunity, he struck the man in the head, and made a run for it.  Going out the door, he kept moving through the corridor.  His heart was racing as he moved forward.  The corridor kept winding around, and he continued to follow it, and he was beginning to get tired.  He heard the sound of men getting closer to him, but he kept moving.  As he went around the next corner, he felt the sharp pain in his neck as the butt of Antwon’s gun struck him.  “You should have known better than to do this Harv...” He said as he picked up the limp frame of his former partner, and carried him back to the room.

Rachel sat outside the SIU, in small tent that Nash had set up so that she could help out without putting anyone else at risk.  She fiddled with the vest trying to ease her discomfort, as Ronnie tried not to twitch while watching her.

“Don’t worry, I won’t blow anything up.”  She laughed playfully

“McCabe it’s not you I am worried about, Nash will kill me if I let anything happen to you.”  He began to chuckle a bit, and she smiled

As she looked up, she saw the Nash and Cassidy pull up in the Cuda.  Parking a few yards from the tent, they looked up and saw Rachel waving at them as they walked towards her.  Getting inside the tent Nash grabbed a stack of files nearby and began thumbing threw it.  Cassidy and Rachel stood by patiently waiting for Nash to tell them what he knew. He whispered something to Ronnie and then slowly turned to towards the two women.

“Ok, so what is going on?” Rachel asked as she nervously tugged at her vest.   Nash looked at the two of them and then back at ground.  “Did you know about Chambers being a cop?”  She asked.

“I never made the connection until today.  He told me about his old partner, but never gave much detail.  I figured the guy was dead.”  Nash hung his head and waited a moment before going on.  “I still remember the trial.  Every cop in the city was watching it.  Anyone that knew Chambers or his family thought that there was no way he could be guilty.  Most everyone figured that it was Harvey trying to frame his partner.  Even the judge wanted to pin it all on Harv.”  He paused again

“So what exactly happened?  I’ve seen the file, but it doesn’t say much other than Chambers trying to skip the trial and the boat explosion.”  Rachel asked

“Well, that’s about it.  In the middle of the trial, Chambers managed to escape from his cell one night.  He got to the boat, and there was an explosion.  The dental records of the body they found matched his, and there was nothing else anyone could do.  They were never able to figure out how the explosion was started.  There wasn’t enough evidence to convict Harvey for anything, so he went back to work.  The trial ended, and that was that.”

“This Chambers seems like a real piece of work.”  Cassidy commented as Ronnie handed her another stack of files.  “What’s all this?” she asked beginning to flip through it.

“These are the court transcripts from the trial.  I thought we might be able to use them.”  Rachel said as she took them from Cassidy.

“We may not need them.  I have a pretty good idea where Chambers is hiding.”

“Really Nash?  Mind filling us in on your insight?”  Rachel stared blankly at him.

“There’s a chance that I’m wrong, but I am pretty sure about this...The old Chamber’s Mansion just outside the city limits, that’s the best place for him to be.”

“How do you figure that?”  Cassidy and Rachel said simultaneously.

“Simple...It is the one place no one would look for him.”

Harvey opened his eyes and saw that he was sitting in an unfamiliar room.  The dim light in the windowless room made him want to scream.  There was tightness in his chest, and he was having trouble catching his breath.  As he did his best to calm down, he heard a child’s laughter behind him.  Whipping around he rubbed his eyes as he stared at the boy sitting behind him.

“I’ve lost my mind.”  He muttered as he blinked his eyes.

“Nah, your just fine.”  The happy child said as he came towards him.  “This is just a dream.  You’ll wake up in a few minutes and I’ll be gone.”

“It talks.  Now I know I’ve lost it.”  Harvey started to get up but fell back into the chair.

“Aren’t you listening to me Harv?  I said this is a dream.”  Again he stared at the boy and rubbed his eyes.

“What are you doing here?”  He asked.

“Just wanted to thank you.”  Harvey stared at the boy entirely puzzled.

“For what?  I got you killed.”

“No you didn’t.  They killed me, but you made me safe.  Because of you I wasn’t afraid anymore.”  A tear escaped down the boy’s cheek, and Harvey reached to wipe it away.

“Mac?”  The boy stopped him before he could go on.

“Let me finish.  You and Cass saved me.  Now I’m gonna do the same for you.”

Slowly Mackenzie began to move for the door, and Harvey reached his hand out towards him.  “Don’t worry Harvey.  I’m gonna help you.”  Harvey kept reaching for him as he went out the door, but he never got to him.  As his feet went out the door, he began to fall.  Down and down he went.  Faster and faster he fell through the never-ending abyss below. Then suddenly he awoke to feel of the cold floor beneath him, and large frame of Antwon towering above him.

Ronnie entered the tent holding a thin piece of paper, and Nash shot him a half grin.

“Please tell me that is the warrant?” He asked pulling it out of Ronnie’s hand.

“Sorry boss.  Judge Coleman wouldn’t sign off on it.”  Nash opened the paper to see that it was a note from the hospital saying that Joe’s condition was not any better.  Glancing at it Nash quickly tucked into his jacket, and continued with the problem he could handle.  “Damn, I was afraid of that.  Now how are we going to do this?”  Nash said to no one in particular.

“Well, I guess we’ll have to figure a way around the warrant.”  Rachel replied.  Nash spun around and glared at her.

“Got any ideas?”  He asked.  She smiled and licked her lips.

“Now that you ask...I have a pretty good one.”  Nash was speechless as Rachel laid out her plan before him.

“You never cease to amaze me sister.”  He shook his head and smiled at her as she nodded in thanks.  “Well let’s do this and see what happens.  Cassidy you get over to Judge Greene and see about getting us the warrant.  Ronnie tell the boys in SWAT to get ready.  I am gonna pay a little visit to the mansion and see what I can find out.”

“What about me?  This was my plan.”

“I realize that, but right now there isn’t much you can do.  Stay by the phone and I’ll call when I get to the mansion.”  Shrugged her shoulders, and went off to a corner sulking.

Antwon stared down at Harvey as he lay there in the floor.  As he began to wake Harvey noticed his hands were cuffed.  He tried to roll over, but Antwon stopped him.

“You should never have tried to run Harv.  Now I have to lock you up.”  Harvey wished he could get up and put a fist through Twon’s smiling face.  He managed to get himself seated upright as he leaned against the wall.

“Why are you helping him?  How could you do this?  I thought I knew you, man.”  Antwon shot him an angry look as he moved closer.

“You thought you knew me!  What a load of crap!  None of you knew me.  No one in that whole place knew a damn thing about who I am.”

“We trusted you.  Joe trusted you.  How could you?  You shot him like it meant nothing.”  Harvey saw the coldness in Antwon’s eyes, and his heart sank.

“That fool never meant anything to me.  He was just another casualty.  I’m sorry he had to be hurt, but there were bigger things at stake.”

“You’re right Twon.  I don’t know you, and I am kinda glad I don’t.  The guy I used to know would never be so heartless.”

“Man!  John was right when he said you were naive.  In the time I’ve known you, I figured you for a sucker, but never a complete moron.”

“I’ve been working for Chambers from the beginning. He’s been waiting for the opportunity to bring you in for the last year.  Honestly, I don’t know why.  I can’t see you doing him any good.”

“This is insane.  You have to realize that John’s plan isn’t going to work.”

Angel quickly made her way down the corridor and did her best not to feel nervous.  It was the first time in several days that Chambers had asked to see her.  As she approached the door the guards motioned for her to enter.  A chill went through her as she stepped into the cold room.

“Hello Angel.  Have a seat.  I’ve missed your company.”  Chambers pulled out the seat in front of his desk and let her sit down.  “You look a bit tired, can I get you anything?”  He asked motioning for one of his men to come closer.

“No sir.  I am fine.”  She replied

“Bring Ms. Munoz some tea.  I am sure that will make you feel better.”  She nodded as Chamber’s man left to get the tea.  Her skin was crawling as she watched Chambers light a cigar and blow the smoke in her direction.  As the smoke swirled around her, she tried hard not to breathe in.  Being anywhere near this man always made her feel sick, almost as much as Antwon did.  They kept up some idle chatter until the tea arrived, and then the conversation changed.

“So how is our plan progressing?” He asked with a stern look on his face.

“Well, it is progressing nicely.  The first batch is nearly complete.  If had more help it would go faster.” He put up a hand to stop her from going on.

“Don’t worry about that dear.  I have arranged for you to get a fresh pair of hands.”  She stared for a split second before it hit her.

“That cop you kidnapped?” She looked at him almost afraid she had said the wrong thing.

“Ahh yes, you did meet Inspector Leek.  He will be joining you in the lab soon enough.  I trust that you two will be able to keep things on schedule.”  His eyes were so cold, that Angel felt as though they were ripping her apart with each glance.

“Yes...we should be able to.”

“Good then.”

She finished her tea and then left the room.  Heading back towards the lab she was unsure what to think.  Harvey seemed like such a nice person, what possible reason could he have to work with an animal like Chambers.  She began to wonder if she had been wrong about the man with the shining blue eyes.

Nash was almost glad to be working at the moment, since it kept things from cluttering his mind.  Joe was still in the back of his mind, but at least he was only taking up part of his thoughts.  He had made getting Harvey everyone’s main priority, and they all knew this was serious.  The crew had assembled, and was preparing to go to the Chamber’s Mansion.  All seemed to be going well, except for McCabe’s occasional grumbling over not being able to help.

“How many times do I have to remind you that you have a bomb attached to your chest?  You are going to stay right here sister.”

“Dammit Nash!”  She shouted.

“Look McCabe I gave in the last time, but I’ll be damned if I’m gonna risk getting anybody killed.  Our main priority is Harvey.  Your presence will only put everyone at risk.”

Rachel was fuming, but she knew he was right.  Chambers could decide at any moment to set the timer on the vest, and anyone around her would be dead.

“I don’t want to put anyone at risk.  I just want to help.”

“Isn’t there something she can do?”  Cassidy asked.

He was planning to have her work the radios, but with all that was going on he had yet to tell her.  After he did she was pleased to know that she would be doing something to help.  Once the plans had been made, Nash set his crew in motion.  When everyone was ready, he got in the Cuda and drove to the mansion to take a look around.  It was a bit of a drive, even in the Cuda it took nearly forty minutes to get there.  Grabbing his cell, he let Rachel know that he was there and that he’d keep them posted on what he found.

There was a group of tourists walking into the house, and Nash casually joined them.  As the guide began the tour Nash quietly slipped away.  He wandered into one of the rooms, and noticed that it had a second door inside.  Going through it he found that it led to a passageway between some of the rooms.  He continued to follow it for several minutes, when he saw that the tunnel ended.  As he came through he was met by two large men, who did not appear at all pleased.

“Just what do you think you’re doing sir?”  One of them asked with a cross look on his face.

“Well...I was...sort of lost...they told me the bathroom was around the corner, and the next thing I know, I am walking through some long corridor.  You people should really get better guides.”  Nash smirked at the two men and started to move away from them.  “Could someone please direct me to the exit?”  He asked as he turned back.  They gave him the directions, and one of them followed him until he could see the door.  Once the large man had left, Nash made his way back through the house.  He found his way through another corridor, and was careful not to run into any other large guards.

Chambers sent word to Antwon that he was ready to see Harvey again, and Antwon picked him off the floor and marched him to Chambers room.  When they arrived Antwon was sent away, and Harvey again sat alone with Chambers.

“I told you there was no way to escape, but then again you always were pretty hard headed.  So are you ready to help me?”  The look on John’s face made Harvey want to strangle him.  Nothing would have made him happier at that very moment.

“I already told you that I wasn’t going to help you.”

“Well, if you insist on being so stubborn...”  Chambers picked up the phone, and began to dial a number, and then waited for an answer.  “This is Chambers...go ahead and kill the boy.  Do you have any last words for your son Harvey?”  The anger rose in Harvey as got up to lunge at Chambers.  He was quickly stopped by one of Chamber’s men standing near the door.  “Forget about that last order.”  He said to the man on the other line, and he hung up the phone.  “You see Harvey my boy, if you refuse to help me, I’ll simply pick up the phone and tell me man to go ahead and put a bullet in your son’s head.  Are we clear?”  Harvey nodded reluctantly.  “Good then.  Now I want you to know, that I truly hate having to do this.”  He motioned for Antwon to enter, and told him to take him to the lab.

Rachel sat impatiently near the phone for Nash to call back, and then began pacing around her little tent.  She kept glaring at the phone trying to will it to ring.  Much to her surprise after about five minutes it did ring, and she nearly jumped clean out of her skin.

“McCabe here.”  She answered.

“Well, how delightful to hear your voice Inspector.” Chambers responded.  Rachel wanted to reach through the line and the man’s head off, but she remained calm and motioned for the nearby officer to begin a trace.

“Too bad I don’t feel the same way Chambers.  What can I do for you?”

“Well, now that you ask...I’d like to know what Nash is doing for me and my men.”  There was an arrogant tone in his voice, and Rachel was sickened by it.

“He’s working on it.  You have to give him some time.  This a delicate matter.”

“I understand that my dear, but I want results.  If it is time he needs, I’ll give him one hour.  I am feeling rather generous at the moment.”

“That’s crazy!  We need more time than that.”

“Tell Nash that he has one hour, or I’ll set that timer on your vest, and he’ll be recruiting new help at the SIU.  I hope I have made myself clear.”  She was gritting her teeth, and cursing under her breath.

“Quite clear.”

“Oh by the way, I hope that tent isn’t too hot for you Inspector.  I’d hate for any of your delicate perspiration to accidentally set that vest off.”  He laughed and hung up the phone.  She looked over at the officer and he shook his head.  They had needed a few more seconds for the trace to work.  Angrily she got up and stomped out of the tent.  After a fuming for a few moments, she began to wonder how Chamber’s could have known about the tent.  She decided to do a little investigating on her own to find out.
