The ASSOCIATION OF FORMER INTELLIGENCE OFFICERS (AFIO) is a non-profit, non-political intelligence educational association that was incorporated in 1975. AFIO members subscribe to values of patriotism, excellence, dedication, and loyalty represented by the Intelligence Community of the United States engaged in the advancement of vital interests and security of the country, its citizens, and its allies. The principle objective of AFIO is to foster understanding by intellectual, political, and business community leaders and the general public of the continuing need for a strong and responsible national intelligence / counterintelligence establishment to deal with a variety of short and long-term threats and issues in the current world environment and the new Information Age. Within this context AFIO stresses education on the need for effective long-term intelligence strategies and capabilities to support national decision-makers and to guard against surprise. This new chapter of AFIO was formed in the Miami area in order to allow, current members and prospective members in the Broward and Dade County areas, a more convenient forum on which to develop our goals and increase our membership. The MIAMI-DADE CHAPTER will be sponsoring numerous events that will allow members from the various Broward and Dade business and governmental organizations to meet in an atmosphere that will allow for the open exchange of information with regard to our current world environment and challenges of the Information Age. Additionally, the mission of AFIO is to educate the public about intelligence and security related issues. The MIAMI-DADE CHAPTER will host educational seminars on contemporary issues related to cyber-crime, business intelligence, counter-terrorism, biological and chemical terrorism threats, and other timely and critical issues. The MIAMI-DADE CHAPTER will also interrelate with the business community, educational institutions, and the law enforcement communities. Membership in AFIO is open to all U.S. citizens who adhere to AFIO's principles, subscribe to AFIO's educational objectives, and desire to support, or participate in, AFIO activities and programs. Members of the MIAMI-DADE CHAPTER must also be a member of AFIO in McLean, VA.
