Although pupils who attend school in Kenya and Tanzania are taught English, the native language is Swahili.
Please find below some everyday words that you will be required to use during your visit.  Learn them, and then practice them on your friends/family.

Jambo = Hello/Good Day
Asante = Thankyou
Asante sana = Thankyou very much
Karibu - You're welcome
Habari? = How are you?
Nzuri sana = Fine thankyou
Karibu = Welcome
Kwa Heri = Goodbye
Tuta Onana = See you later
Lala Salama = Sleep well
Tafadhali = Please
Ndiyo = Yes
Hapana = No
Nzuri nzuri = Very good
Samahani = Excuse me
Kiasi Gani? = How much?
Hakuna matata = No problem
