This
is a nice little piece of fiction I wrote serially in the fan fiction forums of
the Starbase 30 website (link above). It was just for fun and a way to put my
pseudonym (Bog1701) inside a "serious" Star Trek fan fiction story.
Please
Enjoy!

Today…At Starbase Thirty
Starbase
30, stardate 51115.88
I stepped out of my shuttlecraft, the weight of the suitcase that I was holding
was making me feel like someone had stabbed a knife in my shoulder. I walked
with difficulty to the turbolift and said to the computer: "Deck 15"
The turbolift began to move and I lay the suitcase on the ground a moment. My
muscles were screaming in agony and I hoped that it would take a long while for
me to reach deck 15 so that my arm could recuperate from the strain it was
under… Unfortunately, the doors opened after a few seconds and I had to pick up
my luggage once again.
After a few minutes of walking through some corridors which seemed to lead to
nowhere, I finally came to room 106ABD, the quarters
that had been assigned to me…I opened the door and entered.
The room was medium-sized. There was a nice bed, a desk, a chair, a replicator
and a dried-up plant sitting in a porcelain pot. I dropped my suitcase on the
floor and let myself fall on the comfortable bed. I let out a long sigh and
closed my eyes…I was finally aboard starbase 30 and ready for duty, but first,
I was going to take a little nap…
I was starting to fall asleep when my commbadge chirped and a voice said "Ensign
Berg Onevenohone, please report to the command center
immediately."
Oh Brother… I thought.
I tapped my commbadge and answered: "On my way."
I stood up and walked towards the door, massaging my
elbow…It seemed that there was a long day ahead of me…
It took me a few minutes to find my way back to the turbolift,
the winding corridors of this station were still uknown
to me and I needed to use the computer to guide me.
I came onto the bridge and the commanding officer turned, seeing me walk in. He
smiled and shook my hand: "Pleased to meet you Ensign. I thought you were
going to report in immediately after your transfer."
"I needed to drop off some things in my quarters first." I said.
"I see…Well…Welcome aboard."
Suddenly, the lieutenant sitting at Ops said: "Admiral! I'm reading an
unidentified ship approaching at warp."
The Admiral stepped towards the Ops station and studied the readings on the
console: "Unidentified."
"Yes, sir." The Ops officer said.
"No…Wait! I'm recognizing it! It's a…"
The lieutenant paused and the Admiral said: "Lieutenant? What is it?"
The lieutenant took a deep breath: "It's a Borg cube."
I felt my stomach turn upside down and my heartbeat accelerated. A Borg cube
was coming our way! This starbase had just been established and didn't have the
means to defend itself against such a powerful foe!
"Red Alert!" The admiral said. "All
hands to battle stations. Open a channel to Starfleet and ask for
reinforcements…"
"The cube is in visual range." The tactical officer reported.
"On screen…" The Admiral said.
The black cube appeared on the viewscreen. Green lights pulsed within its core
as it slowed to sublight speed…
"We are the Borg. Resistance is Futile. You and your station will be
assimilated" A loud, booming voice said over the nsti
channel.
I closed my eyes, wishing that this was only a dream…Wishing that I would wake
up any second now in my bed back on Earth…
But when I opened up my eyes again, I realized the terrible truth.
The Borg were here…
The Borg ship
hung in space on the viewscreen, its green core pulsing ominously and the crew
in the command center stared in horrified fascination as a green beam emerged
from the cube and begun scanning the station.
"It's scanning us." A science officer reported.
The admiral clenched his fist: "We have no way of fighting…No way of
running."
"Help will not be here soon enough." I added.
The Borg ship fired a barrage of green energy bursts and they struck the
station's shields. Making us all tumble around the command center in random
directions.
"Shields are down!" The lieutenant at Ops reported.
Then, green swirls of particles appeared all around the command center. The
Borg materialized, their mutilated bodies and faces
shocked me even though I had seen pictures of them in various reports.
A security guard that was sitting in the back of the bridge stood up and fired
a few quick shots from his hand phaser; the beams hit the two Borg near the
viewscreen. They crumpled to the ground as showers of sparks flew about.
Then, I heard more sounds of Borg transporting and I swiveled.
A Borg was standing right in front of me.
In one crazily nstinctive motion, I jumped backwards,
the Borg, who was about to hit me with his robotic arm, narrowly missed me. But
then I felt a burning pain in my back and I was thrown forward across the
bridge. I collided with the doors of the turbolift that had not opened and felt
myself drifting into unconsciousness. As I fell into darkness, a Borg bent over
me and put his arm near my face.
No….Please no…
Long metallic nails extended from his fingers and I felt searing pain as they
entered my neck. I tried to scream but my body wouldn't do what my mind wanted
to…
I lost consciousness…

It smells strange…I can't open my eyes…I can't feel my body…
…where am I???
I managed to open my eyes but it took almost five minutes to get them totally
open, and when I saw where I was I wished I hadn't wasted the effort.
I was on a Borg assimilation bed. There were several sharp tools hanging from
the cieling and pointing menacingly at me. My arms,
my legs and my neck were stuck in giant metallic restraints. I had no freedom
of movement.
I saw two or three Borgs moving around me, each of
them even more horrific than the last one. They were doing something to me…I
couldn't feel my body so I had no idea what they were doing…
But I guessed I was getting assimilated…
So…Soon I would be a Borg…I had always wondered what that would be like without
wanting to personally experience it.
Well…Might as well rest a moment since there was nothing to be done quite at
the moment.
I waited…and waited…and waited…
Then, a Borg approached my head and began drilling into my skull. It was a
strange sensation, I was seeing this alien drilling a hole in my head and I
couldn't feel anything…
He inserted a cable into the cavity and stuck a metal plate over the cable.
Then…I began hearing the voices…
********************************************************
Borg 1701 of 1701
…
Borg 1701 of 1701!!!
…...
BORG 1701 OF 1701!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes?
We are Borg
That's nice, how about that?
We shall do as we say It was my voice…
What the hell? Who said that?
I understood…I was now part of the Collective…Part of the great whole that
makes up the Borg consciousness.
Now, I was a Borg, my body, my mouth, my voice was controlled by the Borg
collective and the only thing I could do was watch.
Borgs 1700 through 1750 must board the
Federation starbase, capture it and assimilate it. The voice of the
collective said in my head.
Yes. My voice said.
I screamed, I tried to move…I couldn't. I was about to
beam over to Starbase 30 and assimilate everyone on board!!! I needed to stop
this.
But I couldn't…

The green transporter beam took me, I dematerialized
and appeared in the computer core room of Starbase 30. The officers on duty
regarded me in horror, recognizing my face. My arm rose, and smashed into the
skull of one of the engineers. There was an audible crack sound and I
winced (not for real, but mentally.)
Someone raised a phaser and fired, the beam narrowly missed me and I fired back
with the Borg disruptor that was attached to my arm. It struck the officer
squarely in the chest and sent him flying across the room; he slumped to the
floor, presumably dead.
During all this time I was screaming…well…trying to scream to myself to
stop…But nothing I could do would stop the killing that my Borg self was doing.
Soon, I was joined by other Borg and we began beaming the surviving Starfleet
officers back to the cube.
Suddenly, the doors of the room swished open and Starfleet officers holding
phaser rifles barged in, shooting at everything that moved. I began to try to
fire back but a pulse from someone's phaser rifle struck me in the stomach.
Once again…I lost consciousness.

I woke up and was happy to find out that I was aboard a Federation starship or
starbase; I recognized the smell of the air.
Maybe it had all been a bad dream? Maybe I was lying in my bed aboard starbase
30, ready for duty.
I was wrong…
I tried to move but found I was in a restraining field. On a bunk in sickbay,
nurses and doctors were moving all around me. They were speaking but I didn't
understand them.
I twisted my head slightly to the side so I could see my body.
Dammit…I'm still a Borg I thought,
sighing inwardly.
Suddenly, I saw the CMO of starbase 30 arrive. She was smiling at me and I
hoped she was bringing good news…
"Lieutenant…" She bent down next to me and spoke in a voice little
above a whisper. "We are going to have to sever your neural link to the
Borg collective…It will be dangerous, the chance of success is 50/50 at
best…But it's your only chance."
*********************************************
I woke up…
Was I a Borg? I didn't know…I couldn't feel my body…I didn't even know if my
eyes were opened or closed…The only I saw was an infinite whiteness…
After a moment, I realized that my eyes were indeed open and I tried to blink.
It worked, my eyelids lowered and raised…
I was slowly regaining control of my body…Of my own body!!!
After what seemed like an eternity, I regained total control of my body and I
sat up on the bunk in sickbay upon which I had been lying…
I was in a white sickbay gown, no one else was in
sickbay…Suddenly, the doctor walked into the room.
"Well, lieutenant." She smiled. "How are you feeling?"
I tried to say something but my mouth was dry and the only thing which escaped
from between my lips was a bizarre raspy sound.
She grinned: "I'll get you a glass of water."
As she went to the replicator to fetch me some water, I went to a mirror and
checked myself…There was a large scar running down from my temple to underneath
my chin. It was pretty unaesthetically pleasing but
what the hell…At least I wasn't a Borg anymore…
The doctor came back with a large glass of water and I surprised myself with
the speed at which I swallowed the content of the container. When I had
finished, I cleared my throat and asked:
"So…Where did the Borg go?"
"The
I smiled wanly.
"So, lieutenant…" She asked. "Ready for
duty?"
I ran my fingers along the scar on my face and grinned at her: "Ready and
eager to get going, ma'am."
She went back into her office and came back with a Starfleet uniform, a freshly
replicated one…
"Thanks." I said.
The Borg had not prevailed, and we had prevailed over them…This time…The symbol
of that victory resting permanently on the side of my face…The scar…
As I zipped up the uniform and prepared to get back to duty I thought: Those
Borg can really change your lives…can't they…
I frowned…
Bloody Bastards…
