Jim became a member of the AHPA during its first year of existence in 1949. He pitched on the Marion County league for 35 years and on the Speedway league since its beginning until he had to retire from the sport. He was Mr. Horseshoe in 1991. He would not only donate his time for work details, he would help leagues financially. Every year on the third of July, Jim would have pitchers join him at his farm for a hog roast and fire works display.
