August 12,
Chet Melson, 87, of Terre Haute died at 10:35 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in his residence.
He was an AHPA horseshoe member and member of Terre Haute Horseshoe Club. Memorial
contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute,
IN 47807.
July 16,
Effective July 21, 2002 Russ Favors will be resigning as 2nd Vice President of the AHPA. As
several of you know Russ has had a lot of problems and states that he will not be able to
continue pitching. Russ has always loved the sport of horseshoe pitching and has given a
lot of time and effort to the AHPA. We will miss Russ and we wish him the best of luck.
April 6,
Horseshoes lost a good horsepitcher this week--Karl VanSant from Cayuga. He was 77 and won many
NHPA state tournaments.
March 17,
We may have a tournament that will be called the Grand Finale. It was suggested that a pitcher
should to pitch in at least 4 tournaments to qualify, no need to win your division. Need
a committee get it going, and 28 to run smoothly. If each league has two people we will have
enough. Linda McFarland will chair the committee. Will need players to come in early or stay
after they pitch to keep score.
The AHPA will raffle off its used computer as first place and a set of dead eye horseshoe as
second. See your league secretary for information.
Sharon Pacala had a lay out of the courts to be put in Spencer at Cooper Commons. The
park will allow if there are 2 shuffle board courts in center for seniors to play. All is
set to go as soon as the money is available. They will not be ready this summer.
Febuary 18,
Board Members Reports, June Baldwin reported that the Spencer courts will not be ready by spring.
The court area will also be used for shuffleboard. Costs will be seveal thousand dollars.
Grants are being checked into.
Ed Weyer stated that French Lick has its courts, just needs members. He will know more
this spring.
January 1,
The Spring meeting for members will be held March 17, at the Morgan County 4-H grounds
building in Martinsville at 1 pm.

State Membership fees will be $11.00 in 2002 gradually increasing to $12.00 in 2003.
