Cave Hill Cemetery Louisville, Kentucky Cave Hill Cemetery was founded in 1846 on the site of the old Cave Hill Farm. The farm and the subsequent cemetery were named for a cave on site from which issued a spring. Unfortunately, the cave is off-limits to cemetery visitors, but the cemetery is no less inviting for this fact. Cavehill is fine example of the garden cemeteries that sprang up across the nation in the mid-nineteenth century and the burial place of many famous Kentuckians, including Harland "Colonel" Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame. |
