Metairie Cemetery New Orleans, LouisianaMetarie Cemetery was established in 1872 on the site of the former Metairie Race Track. Since that time, Metairie Cemetery has become the resting place of many notables, including Jefferson Davis until he was moved to Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. Like other cemeteries in New Orleans, Metairie has a large number of above-ground burials. However, this cemetery was laid out in the rural style that was becoming popluar in the middle of the nineteenth century, and is the home of many beautiful shade trees as well as impressive monuments.
