Shaded Oakland Cemetery
Atlanta, Georgia

Oakland cemetery was founded in 1850 in the style of the new rural cemteries that were popping up around the nation. The cemetery became the home of many Atlantans including Margaret Mitchell, author of "Gone With the Wind". Many confederate soldiers are guarded by a wounded lion. Today the walled in cemetery covers 88 acres and is a peaceful retreat from the frenzy of this Southern Monster city.
