In early 1998, Phil Turner - an NUJ activist at the Rotherham Advertizer - was dragged to a disciplinary hearing, wwhich may have cost him his job.
This led to a one-day strike and demo outside the Rotherham Advertizer,
on the day of his disciplinary hearing.
There was a great show of solidarity among trade union activists, with
trade union delegates coming from many miles away.
(I was there, as were several members of Chesterfield Socialist Workers Party).
The strike was successful; no disciplinary action was taken, and Phil
Turner kept his job.
A small but significant victory for working class solidarity action.
