ROSES
Copyright 2002  Wanda L. Harrell
The time has come for me to lay aside the roses of my yesterdays,
Place those faded flowers of long ago where they belong,
Securely pressed within the pages of bittersweet memories.
Only then can I appreciate a living rose's velvet crimson petals,
Inhale their sweet, pungent fragrance,
And even risk pricking my finger upon its thorns.
